Saw the movie last night. Booked our tickets with an old friend at 5PM for a 9PM show – seats dead center. Saw it in 3D but not IMAX. Five or six great shots, but otherwise I wanted to take the damned glasses off.

There was a “Captain Phasma” costume on display in the lobby. It thought “cool!”….. and then SHE opened her mouth in the movie turning out to be no more than a nagging broad

Captain Phagma: “Why did you take your helmet off? ”

    “Because it’s hot in here?”

The costume was cooler than the character. She will never be Boba Fett.

They really REALLY tried to take the girl power s~~~ too far w0th her screaming at Finn (TWICE) “Stop taking my hand like that!!” and “I can run without you holding my hand” when he only meant well and was trying to help her. An SJW would see that and accuse the writers of racism.

They should have just had her say “I’m a strong and independed you-go-girl unfettered by the antiquated gender roles of a bygone era!!! Dammit I don’t need no man!!!”

Then she expertly pilots the Falcon sitting under a tarp in the sun “for years” ( did they have “years” in Star Wars?” ) ……. and when she kept correcting Han Solo, I was waiting for him to tell Chewie “shut her up or shut her down” like he did with C3PO in EPV….. but that would have been “politically incorrect”.

The stupid creatures with the umpteen legs were unnecessary, and when one of them was sucking on the Falcon c~~~pit, I started to laugh. It took a nose dive there.

Laughed a little at the words “General Leia” in the opening title roll. WAY too much botox(?) in her upper lip. All I could think was “why is her top lip not moving?” I thought she was hairlip-synching her lines like Yoda in Empire. She looked like a puppet.

“What do YOU think, Han? What do YOU guys think? GREAT LETS DO IT!!”
    – Solution by General Leia

KiLoRen is Han Solo & Leias SON? Mmmmm no. He looked more like Barbara Streisand’s son. Why did he remove his mask? Totally unnecessary. All mystique gone.

Bad story telling when she touched Luke’s lightsabre, had flash visions and no real challenges to overcome. This is not Hunger Games… and she storms off “I want no part of this and want to get home”. F~~~ you. Luke was at least INTERESTED in being in the rebellion. And then she beats him in a lightsaber duel? You gotta be kidding me.

Han Solo’s expresión when he got skewered was comedy. He should have grabbed his son by the shoulders and taken him with him to give him a heros exit. But they HAD to pass it off to the girl.

    BEST POINTS IMO:

    • Finn was good.
    • Look and feel / art direction was great.
It “felt” like Star Wars and looked like it.
    • Sound design was amazing.
    • The score was great.
    • The reveal of Luke at the end with his weathered / aged expression (and no lines) was excellent.

I never got into the whole main story of star wars after the first three movies, I did however read all the Han Solo books. In the books nobody but Han and Chewie knew everything about the Falcon or worked on it. In the books Han pretty much guts the Falcon and builds her the way he wants, and you tell me in this movie some chick knows HIS ship better then him? Bulls~~~! And being able to use the force without any training? That’s like having Joe Snuffy walk in off the street beating the s~~~ out of Bruce Lee in martial arts, more bulls~~~!Leave it to Hollyweird to take perfectly well written stories and f~~~ing them up beyond any reasonable excuse.

Very good point. Han and Chewie had that ship so heavily modified there was no way she’d be able to fix it. But, like you said, she knows it better than the guy that modified it and has been a pilot his entire life because grrrlll powrrrr.

What about the fancy move she did hanging it in the air so Finn could shoot the TIE? The whole time I’m thinking: “GO TO THE OTHER GUN PORT!”.

Bulls~~~! And being able to use the force without any training?

Watching a woman perform jedi mind tricks doesn’t even require suspending disbelief!
    That’s what they DO!

And some white knights (in this case, an actual white Stormtrooper) are dumb enough to actually do it. The analogy is hilarious. After it worked, she thought she had some special power, but it was just vagina.

“I demand that you do this right now”.

    “OK”.

You can see that anywhere. The danger in this is girls/women will see this , and if they can get a guy to do whatever they are, they will think they actually HAVE “the force” – as if they’re not full of themselves enough already.

You don’t need training if you have The Force. She just knows stuff apparently, because she has real good genetic code. It is just channel The Force. The stronger the Force, the more you can do. That is the basic metaphysical structure of Star Wars. I believe if you go in expecting that to be different, you will be disappointed.

Sounds like PT/EU bulls~~~ to me.

Why did Luke need training if he was a direct descendant of Anakin Skywalker?

Why could bowl cut Anakin race pods? Because force?

Why could Rey do all the stuff we listed? Because force?

Why did Luke handle his lightsaber like a clutz and get shot in the ass with that remote, get beat up in bars and not beat Vader after training? Why did it take Luke three films to become proficient?

    Give me a f~~~ing break.

The Force in Star Wars is becoming like “I’m Batman” with the Nolan Batman films. It is a form of magic that is mean to explain everything. It is retcon at this point. Even look at what Finn could do. He has the force in him also, and he was pulling stuff out also.

Apparently the only thing that blocks the force from working is one’s own doubts…. or something like that. And yet, there are individuals who have a Cult like following to the Star Wars universe and have declared themselves members of the Jedi religion. Yes, they do this.

I am well aware of these people. Thank you.

As of the release of this movie, I’m really f~~~ing tired of:

    1. The God damned Rey wankfest going on.
    2. PT/EU fans explaining the force and rule of two.
    3. F~~~ing idiot 16 year old girls who claim to be ‘experts’ on Star Wars.

Yeah… remember when boys who liked video games, and Star Wars were total nerds and geeks? When I played the 25-cent StarWars video game (I spent all of my allowance on that thing) not a single girl I knew wanted to come along to to the arcade – or set foot in one.

Now they are all gamers, “nerds”, and experts in the force.
But it’s “fashionable and cool” because chicks pretend to like that s~~~.

Feminism is the idea that women can’t be “happy” unless they enjoy the same things men do. doesn’t matter WHAT IT IS. if you’re man and you like it, women will hate it …… until they realize it’s a losing battle….. and then they want to join, pretend they like it, want to run everything, without earning anything, and ruin f~~~ing EVERYTHING.

I loved seeing the film too. But unlike EP 4, 5, 6 I have no desire to see it again……. except the Falcon flying / desert scene. That was spectacular. The “feminist s~~~” was just trying too hard. Even Yoda played humble when we first met him.

    You ain’t just whistlin’ Dixie.

No Im not! Check this out…..

What happens when girls and women join the line ups of “nerds” and “geeks” and “losers” at the Star Wars conventions and the opening of EP8??. Are talk shows and all of society going to MOCK THEM TOO and tell them they are fans because “they can’t get laid” and “never had sex” ???

“Look at those losers, failures and geek women in the line up dressed as Rey, Leia and Captain Phasma because they can’t get laid and they never had sex. “.

    Can’t wait to see it.

That’s the extreme hypocrisy in all of this. Women who are now “YAY!!! STAR WARS!!! GO REY!!!” are now as equally pathetic as the men who liked star wars for the last 40 years. Nice going ladies. You’re a “loser” now too.

I’m still a Star Wars fan. I’ve been since the cradle. Nonetheless, I’ll wait patiently for this one until I can pop it out of the RedBox machine convenient to the entrance of my supermarket.

Meanwhile, I’m listening to “The Original Radio Drama” on CD. Just to scratch my Star Wars itch.

Oh I understand how that “sounds” but this is the perfect example of “shaming” explained — and understanding where it comes from. Its a terrific realization when you think about it.

    1. “You’re all a bunch of sad pathetic losers who can’t get laid and need a get a life” (sound familiar?)

    2. “Women are EQUAL to men and want to be StarWars fans too!!! ”

    3. Women are also now a bunch of “sad pathetic losers who can’t get laid and need to get a life”.

    ••••••••••••

    The feminist mantra:

    1. “Men are pigs and men are scum”.

    2. “Women are equal to men!!!!”

    3. Therefore: “Women are equal to pigs and scum”.

    Fascinating isn’t it.

I didn’t actually mean “women are losers, geeks and scum”. It means they had no business shaming men for it in the first place and should have shut their f~~~ing mouths — or admitted they always really want to be a part of it.

But they never will. So you’re just a “geek a loser and a nerd who can’t get any pussy”. It’s amazing just how SAD, JEALOUS, PATHETIC and f~~~ing MISERABLE women really are — especially when men are having a great time without them. Then they join the loser and exactly the same s~~~ “fashionable and cool” now.

The sudden feminist appeal of Star Wars is just one cultural example of this.

That’s the cultural flop and failure of feminism. They think being a man means being a CEO and now women all want to be CEOs…… when in reality, in order to be “equal to men” they have to start in the sewers. How many women do you think will be pounding their fists for “gender equality” when constructing London’s new super sewer.

That’s what I meant by “congratulations…. you now get to be losers too”.

It would be different women actually said “Men are awesome and cool – I want to be awesome and cool too!!”and they looked at men (and male heros) with admiration , respect and in a positive light. But you’ll never see it. Men are just “pathetic losers” ….. until women decide to join.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

“Shaming” is a rude form of hypocrisy, because women refuse to live by the same standards they demand from men.

Female geeks do exist. But, I am not talking about these women whom think being a geek is a trend and fashion statement. And female geeks tend to be nicer to men than other women, because they also catch flack from other women.

Though, you still have to watch you back with them, like all women.

Not reading through everything said up to this point, but wanted to add a few points.

1 – I can forgive a little license with accelerating Rey’s ability with the force…because watching her train would be boring as hell. We’ve seen it before.

2 – I think it’s important to note, that Kylo Ren was a weak villain. Snark (or whatever the new emperor’s name is) even stated that his training was not complete. He was really more of a spoiled rebellious irrational child then a villain with conviction. Did Rey beat him? Not when he was at full strength. Chewie got a shot at his left arm, and Finn got a swipe at his left leg (there may have been more injuries I missed) before Rey even picked up the light saber. It was not close to a fair fight.

3 – This is the first star wars they really seemed to lack any kind of sex appeal whatsoever. Leia was the eye candy for 4, 5, 6, and Padame was for 1,2,3 amoungst other bit characters. Nothing this time around.

4 – Conversely, there was an obvious effort to show women in combat roles, both for the baddies (Captain Phasma) and the goodies (several of the rebel pilots were women). That’s not even counting Rey.

5 – Like 1,2,3 this story suffered from having huge fan expectations in it. It felt like the writers had a list of demands they needed to fit in the story somehow. It felt like the story suffered because of it.

6 – Although the main character is female, Disney isn’t stupid when it comes to marketing and product sales. If you do a search for star wars toys, you’ll find very few Rey toys, and a ton of Kylo Ren. They are pushing the old characters a ton, even Bobba Fett and Darth Vadar who aren’t in the movie. Even Captain Phasma will sell more the Rey, because the outfit makes her look like a man. The girls aren’t the ones buying up the toys.

7 – Because of 6, I would not be surprised if Rey’s role diminishes somewhat in VII. They may possible “man her up a bit” like Captain Phasma, or give bigger roles to Finn and Poe. As big of a success as VII is, I think they will observe and learn, and won’t risk the monumental profits they can make by sticking to a girl power agenda.

    Ok. Then do it.

Problem is, it didn’t use to be. It was latent ability, like athletic talent. If you trained and practiced (like Luke did) you could become proficient and even master it. Rey just gets all her powers at once because force. Uh. No.

Finn did some cool things, but he had limits. That’s why he was cool and relate-able.

EXACTLY. Rey is a diamond: Cold, beautiful, flawless and this is what bothers me so much about Rey being a Mary Sue. You either have to try and argue she’s not and address the fact that she’s inherently good at everything or you have to say, “Well, she’s an exemption” and then explain the “born better” mechanism, which comes off as very Aryan, by the way.

You know who typically gets to be “born better” in stories? THE F~~~ING VILLAIN. That’s WHY people HATED Anakin in the prequels; he was an ultra-powerful Force user, possibly the strongest ever seen up to that point with a ton of potential, but he instead becomes a whiny bitch instead of thinking, “Gee, I’m so lucky TO BE POTENTIALLY THE MOST POWERFUL JEDI EVER BORN”.

Villains get to be born better because it sets them up as all the things people hate: Arrogant, judgmental, shallow, superficial, etc. SJW logic is flawed BECAUSE it stems from that same place; the idea that some people deserve special treatment or are entitled to things because of how they were born instead of by virtue of what they have earned with their own two hands is the same mindset that lead to the Nazis and to any genocide.

So when it’s applied to the lead hero in the story, it just sucks. That’s why the whole “chosen one” thing tends to fly out the window when you’re writing a story and it’s why heroes tend to come with a set of serious flaws like being a coward or not being able to take things seriously. Rey can never be the hero Luke was unless they turn her “I’m good at everything” into a major flaw, but the problem was they didn’t plant the seeds in this first film so it will now come off as unnatural. Luke beat the Emperor not because he happened to be better or because he was “chosen”, but because he wouldn’t give up and had a good heart that was (arguably) detrimental to his training as a Jedi, but made him friends and allies that saved his ass multiple times over. Yeah, it takes time to build up a character like this, but it is far more satisfying than, “Well, she was born special.”

Well, since this thread has spoilers, I will end up saying this…

Leia got Hans killed. If Hans never married, and had a son,. this big mess would of never happened, and he wouldn’t of died. So, there you go, there is a MGTOW message in there. Leia, “You will bring him back alive, right?’. Sure, go out and talk to him, and then your son does you in.

    THAT is a MGTOW message.
