I tip because I worked in a service industry before (bartending) and I know how little those people are paid and they rely on tips. I tip appropriately though, s~~~ty service means no tip, but good service gets a decent tip. I usually leave 20% for very good service. I do it because it was how I made my living in those s~~~ jobs… thus it is how I repay them for doing well at it.

I only tip at restaurants, bars. I don’t tip the mailman, the car wash guy, etc. I especially don’t tip when it is ‘expected’ and not appropriate. I carry my own groceries and products out so I don’t tip for that service, etc.

if you can’t afford to tip, you shouldn’t go out to eat

    Total f~~~ing bulls~~~.

If you can’t afford the BILL, the agreement you are obligated to pay, you should not go out to eat. Tips are EXTRA. AND the cooks in the back sure as f~~~ arent getting a tip.

It depends. In the US, at most restaurants that are reputable, and many chain restaurants as well, tips are split. That means you tip your waiter and it is not just him you are tipping, you are tipping the busboys, cooks, etc. The tips all go into a pool at the end of the night and are split according to a rule. I experienced this bartending and hated it… always appreciated the nights I worked alone as I made more tips than anyone and didn’t have to share them.

The tip for the waitress is to motivate good service.
If shes makeing a flat hoirly rate, why should she guve a f~~~ about you being pleased?

They make alnost nothing houerly, usualy have to pay approximated taxes on tips she didnt make.

Seems like there’s a lot of cheap bastards who want to stick it to women on the job when they haven’t done them any harm. It ain’t cool. I try to treat folks as they deserve, be they man or woman.

Wow. And I didn’t even think I’d get into this that much. Some of us are sounding a little hypocritical. We complain about women and their undeserved advantages in society and then turn on one of our own because he is pointing out another inconsistency in society that favors women mostly. Men usually get lesser to no tips compared to women. Isn’t that a major part of his gripe? In another thread there is a video of a man and a woman pretending to be homeless. Same difference. That guy Patrick on YouTube was a waiter and experienced the same thing. Most women are servers, therefore his points apply. I tip for performance. And what I’ve seen most is that men perform better than women in service. Therefore I tip men better. It’s the expectation of a tip that p~~~es me off. Oy nuff said. I gotta go to work…

by principle i believe in meritocracy good work by men or women wait staff should be rewarded you should tip well if the service is good, but then again some people dont believe in this so each their own I also worked in the service industry and its alot of work.

I don’t give to charity because I don’t trust where the money goes so I tip big. I don’t care if it’s a man or a woman. Anyone who does good work for me gets a tip. It’s not about gender to me. It’s about work ethic.

Yea? Take a look at some of the youtube videos on people who have been busted p~~~ing and spitting and putting s~~~ in peoples food in the kitchens in the back: they don’t give a f~~~ WHO gets that food! Tippers and non-tippers alike get that s~~~….it’s why I hardly ever eat out at places where I can’t stand there and watch my food being prepared.

Not bulls~~~ in most places in the U.S. If I frequent a restaurant or bar and I get to know the staff and they treat me well and take care of me, I tip them and they continue to take care of me. If I go somewhere and they’re slow and don’t act like they even want to be there, I give them nothing.

    I’m down with that.
Granted the pussy pass may get a woman more tips and some woman play the ‘touch you on shoulder, show more attention’ game to get bigger tips. That’s on the simps that fall for it. As MGTOW I won’t be swayed by that. I am swayed by being fair. Fair is more woman do waitress work, and it is hard work. Not tipping well because it’s a woman is subtle-hate I won’t stoop to. I tip the same (big) regardless of gender. A feminist would not tip a man because of gender.

At most restaurants in the United States the servers/waiters/bartenders are paid around $2.13 an hour I believe. The idea is that they are getting tips and this money is used for taxes. However, if an employee is not making more than minimum wage average over their 2 weeks or whatever, they are suppose to be compensated by the employer. Giving them minimum wage. But most employers do not discuss that and a lot of employees lie about their tips, claiming less than what they actually made.

That being said. If I’m at a restaurant in the US, where it’s presumed the staff is getting paid $2.13 an hour. I usually tip 20%. I however worked in the restaurant business for a few years.

The thing is people tip who tip and people who do not tip, do not tip. Like this idea that “service” has any thing to do with the amount people tip is usually BS. People tip what they tip.

On other industries, like hotels and stuff. The people who take you bags, set of your room and all that. Some times tipping is about getting favors and what not.

I honestly think tipping in restaurants should be removed and the people who work there should be given a wage or a percentage based on the products sold, instead on relying on the patrons/guest tips. More especially on chain restaurants like applebees, chilis, crackle barrel and what not.

Also this behavior creates a lot of drama and politics in the workplace. Being that only the waiters get tips, well there is all of these payoffs. Like the hostess gets paid an hourly wage, minimum wage or more. However, the servers will begin to buy her out with tips so that the hostess will give them the best customers, the ones that tip. And the people who don’t pay her off get the bad customers, the ones that don’t tip.

Then same stuff goes on in the kitchen. There is someone in the kitchen whose job is to set up the plates/entrees and organize everything and tell the waiters/servers when their table on complete and their food is really to be delivered. So when you dont tip them, well the same thing occurs. People get treating differently event though this position actually gets a wage, like minimum wage or more.

Because of all this, I personally refrain from eating at restaurants the run off the tip system. I mostly go to sandwhich places, at buffets I usually tip a dollar. Same thing at buffets, they get 2.13 or whatever but all they do is keep your drink filled and they handle lots and lots of people. So 1 dollar is like 10%.

Long winded response…. I think tip culture in the US should be abandoned, especially in chain restaurants, restaurants owned by publicly traded companies. However, a lot of these servers are working on $2.13 or whatever, and to NOT tip them… well they are certainly going to feel that and I would NOT be surprised if you go some where multiple times and do this, not tipping them, you will get bad service, if not horrible service. (What is going on back there in that kitchen???? if you get what I’m talking about). I would not advise anyone to eat an a restaurant who doesn’t tip to ever go back. They will remember you. Maybe not the first time, but they probably will. When people don’t tip, it usually stands out.

Truth has no place to live in the mind of a woman.

I’m pretty sure I’m on your wavelength, but you surely don’t agree that poor service deserves any compensation, do you? I don’t have any problem with tipping, but once in a while, I’ve had a waiter or waitress give very poor service in nearly every way possible and I’m not paying them for s~~~ work. If I do my job poorly, I may lose it. If I do a good job, I get a raise. That’s how it works.
