I was going to stop responding, but Untamed’s response leaves me no choice but to respond, in the interests of self-defence:

1. I was not ‘whining’; I was discussing, in a reasoned manner, why I dis-agreed with the manner in which the feature has been implemented, which is not the same as ‘whining’;

2. Just because KeyMaster may think that something is a good idea, it does not follow that it therefore is a good idea, or that everybody else thinks so; but obviously it is his web-site to do with as he pleases, so to some extent, any dis-agreement becomes academic, but may nevertheless may be valid, as I believe my criticism is/was;

3. Yes, I understand how much effort goes in to systems development/maintenance, as I was a Software Developer and a DBA for over 15 years, but that is not the point;

4. I was not treating MGTOW.Com as a ‘nursery’. Are people not allowed to dis-agree now? I was not behaving in a childish manner, but trying to make a serious point, albeit with passion; there is a difference.

(This is how I understand this new feature at this point, correct me if I am mistaken keymaster)

This latest feature flags a member that should be turned into a spectator Or it could be set up that if the right number of members hit that button said flagged member would be turned automatically into a spectator (until reviewed by keymaster or another designated admin)

It is NOT a ‘two-tier system’. Anyone can still report a troll. The genie is still there, as is the contact page.

It is a speed dial to alert admin to potential trouble, that’s all. Final decisions remain with KM.

The “SMS text alert” feature in the forums sidebar was just modified and added to member profiles so you can report a member (if urgently necessary) who may be causing problems.

Based on reactions here, I’m not convinced this was such a good idea but many have asked for it and there have been a few recent times the forums have EXPLODED when an admin didn’t have the time to review WTF happened.

This only complicates things further when we are trying simplify and automate them. Because we’re BUSY. Every minute spend in the forums is a minute away from production and progress and other obligations – like work.

Sounds reasonable to me. There needs to be some way of distinguishing the genuine members from the potential trolls. 2000 is a lot of stars from my vantage, but I know that, with time, I’ll get there.

One nice feature that some old hats here probably don’t know about, is that you don’t automatically get forum privileges when you sign up, but can essentially pay to become a forum participant by upgrading to Ghost or Galt. I know some people might view this as bad that one needs to pay, but I like the idea. It seems clear to me that these forums are relatively free from trolls and I’m sure this has a lot to do with it.

I haven’t really received any benefit from Ghost, other than I feel good about contributing to this site. If you value this place and have the money, it’s silly not to support it.

Same here.

I think the mechanism is sensible. I can’t see the harm in some proportionate self policing.
It’s common sense that not everyone can have the privilege of being able to alert admin or km in this manner.

We can argue where the cut off should be until we turn blue but it has to be somewhere and no matter where KM puts it members will always question the logic.

What we need to accept that there is not an ideal solution to the problem and as a result what ever solution KM implements it will always have some sort of flaw.
A perfect solution does not exist so we can’t find what is not there.

This is the solution that has been chosen. It is up to us to treat the mechanism respectfully. No over use, just proportionate to the trollers and Tunas, vitriol.

First ,thank you (untamed and others) for your earlier post and stepping in to bring some light to the concerns when I was not available.

And yes, that’s basically it.
Just a way of saying “dudes we have a serious problem here – check it out”.

No new / questionable profiles will ever be made participants so you don’t need to ring for every female avatar that shows up….. and a more relaxed email alert will do.

Otherwise please note….

Our mailbox has been SERIOUSLY hammered with hundreds of stupid spam messages of late and we need to go through ALL of them to find genuine emails from. It’s so bad, we may have to pause new member registrations to catch up. It’s crazy.
