Having studied market research methods, I know that big corporations do not launch multi-million dollar marketing and advertising campaigns without first doing extensive market research, so what you see on the media is a good indicator of what the public, especially the female public, wants. The message here is that women are so much sexier than men and therefore make better partners for other women.
Women are also depicted as so much smarter than men. The typical commercial depicts the stupid man struggling to do something when a smart woman comes along and shows him how much easier it is with the product.
Today’s commercials are based on and perpetuate the idea of female superiority, both sexually and intellectually, and male inferiority.

So we’ve come this far, that sex doesn’t sell as good as it used to. I never saw this coming, to be honest. But the general decline of society, combined with the emasculation of men, and not to mention the total saturation (all points brought by other posters in this thread) has brought us to this point.

The question is, where will this thing end up? The lesbian-ads won’t attract males that much, seen it once, seen it every time (like porn). Possible exceptions are manginas. And women are already buying, so any big increase won’t come from those quarters either. So, I see a decline in return-on-investment when it comes to advertising. They’ll need to amp up the notch to get the same effect as yesteryear, and then the cost will start to increase exponentially to gain the same marketing-effect. So, where will this end?

Well you can’t criminalize and mock male sexuality and then turn around and be surprised that men are no longer sexually excited, at least not openly.

Males spend what, the first 2-3 decades of their lives being told their losers, creeps and weirdos for being attracted to young women? Frankly I’m amazed it’s not on a much wider scale than it is.

Raising rates is supposed to get the credit flowing and banks lending, but the consumer is holding a big debt burden. If the cost of that debt goes up now the consumer taps out whilst inflation pushes prices up and wages continue to stagnate. Pretty serious spending contraction . But then if banks don’t lend because rates are flat, the rate of money changing hands is depressed and the thing slowly grinds to a halt anyway. The market is set to get a whole lot tougher for these guys. Black Friday and Christmas spending figures will be interesting.

The simple fact is that sex is overrated. It is fun sometimes, on those rare occasions it may even become a need, but in general it is not as good as our brains tricks us into thinking it is. Anyone here besides me that gets this image of sex being better after a long abstinence just to remember how plain it actually is once it is available?
I think it’s really more about the other aspects of it, rather than sex itself; social recognition, a short but intense form of physical feeling of companionship, and similar. But commercials does not give any of that, it only points as to what a person might lack at that moment.

It’s unlikely interest rates are going to be raised by the Fed anytime soon. There’s just too much downside, and it’s too close to a presidential election. . . twelve months away. You’d probably enjoy mises.org, which is an Austrian economics web site. It’s worth looking at.

I’m past the point of believing any government-produced economics statistics. I think this holiday season is going to suck for most retailers, and the new year is going to bring a wave of bankruptcies. With rare exceptions – usually inexpensive items I need right away – I buy almost everything from Amazon, Wal Mart, or Home Depot. It’s fascinating to me how our economic ‘savants’ can’t see the imminent collapse of commercial real estate which is already well on its way. I noticed that back when I was a child and young teen, as well as the fascinating dances and tangos around the subject. I don’t think I knew any *very* close female friend pairs who didn’t mess around with each other at least once. That was not the same with males, as far as I could tell.
