GoneGalt wrote One I saw recently: Get Low, with Robert Duvall as a hermit wanting his funeral while he’s still alive.
I like everything Robert Duval acted in. In my humble opinion Lonesome Dove was the best western ever made.
Robert Duvall, with his distinctive voice, has spoken some of the most memorable lines in films, the most famous perhaps being, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning,” from Apocalypse Now.
“I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man!” from True Grit.
my personal favorites came from the movie broken trail, where Duval said these memorable lines:
“My one attempt at having a family and settling down turned out badly. Now I’m neither brave enough nor strong enough to go that way again….”
“Now, we didn’t go looking to save no Orientals and a broken-nosed whore. It just happened. Sometimes you just gotta roll with what’s thrown at you.”
“God ain’t made a man that could stand up to the power that lays between a woman’s thighs. The hold that little cooter has on a man’s life is unbreakable. It can bring a strong man to his knees.”“The habits and ambitions of women are more a mystery to me than Egyptian hieroglyphics. And I ain’t found a Rosetta stone yet.”
“Six wives. What a horrible punishment.”
from the movie Crazy Heart: “Take it from somebody who’s been there, it doesn’t last necessarily. Now it’s gonna get rough, and you’re gonna feel worthless….but I’m gonna help you with it.”
from the movie get low: “I built my own jail and put myself in it. And I stayed in it for 40 goddamn years. No wife. No kids. No friends. No nothing.”
I am never disappointed watching his movies.
I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities. This so as to learn as much from misunderstanding as from understanding. Taking pleasure in worthy opponents and making language fluid and flowing like a river yet pointed and precise as a dagger. Contradicts the socialistic purpose of language and makes for a wonderful linguistic dance, A verbal martial art with constant parries that hone the weapon that is the two edged sword of my mouth.
Anonymous0Hi harpomason,
Great Scene…it smelled like……….VICTORY. The facial expression…GREAT.
I mentioned the Apocalypse Now movie in a thread I started.
funniest movie I ever saw (at the time) was the original Porky’s…about 30 years ago
best mgtow movie was probably Shawshank Redemption. Andy Dufresne was THE f~~~ing mgtow
Look, it's not my fault that tornado dropped a house on your sister. Now get back on your broom and get your ass out of here... and take your monkeys with you
“Predator” I don’t know what it is but I can watch this movie over and over
Anonymous11In no particular order, “Road Warrior, “The Big Lebowski”, and “The Outlaw Josey Wales”
CP:
Thumbs up for Road Warrior and The Big Lebowski.
The Maltese Falcon. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033870/?ref_=nv_sr_1
[Watched for umpteenth time last nite.]Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart) is as MGHOW as a man can get. Brigid O’Shaughnessy (Mary Astor) was a serious manipulator, but Spade outplayed her at every turn. He lived only, only, because he stayed MGHOW–otherwise she’d have had him.
Brigid: You know down deep in your heart that in spite of anything I’ve done, I love you.
Sam: I don’t care who loves who! I won’t play the sap for you!
Mark Hamill is in the news because of Kingsman and the upcoming Star Wars flick. That reminds me of …
The Big Red One (1980) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080437/?ref_=nv_sr_1

The NOTE BOOK – hands down!!!
Ha ha ha …..
Kidding dudes!!!
I am kinda old school – I still like Die Hard (the first one).
The latest great move was Inglorious Bastards.

~ Theodore RooseveltI just watched another old favorite:
Run Silent Run Deep http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0052151/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Great flick, two thumbs way up!It is based on the book of the same title by Edward L. Beach. Hollywood took great liberties with the original, as they usually do. Frankly, not all the changes resulted in improvements. http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Deep-Cassell-Military-Paperbacks/dp/0304364657/
I am a great fan of all of Beach’s books. I recommend them to people who like naval fiction and nonfiction.

Screamers (Peter Weller), not so bad for a low budget production.

Pitch Black (VinDiesel – Riddick – Rule the Dark, Surviving is his Vengeance)
Anonymous42I know I can be a joker, and hadn’t given this post a serious answer, until now.
It’s not a movie, but a series: David Carradine, Kung Fu (1972).
In my opinion this program is high level MGTOW, and I personally was deeply affected by it’s subliminal messages. Master Po, and Grasshopper (David C.) were in the purest MGTOW setting (the temple).
I now realize the writers were being illuminated by the flowering of feminazism during it’s infancy. This was, and still is my favorite “PROGRAM”, of all time.
Was Grasshopper wasting his time with women? NO. Was Master Po filling Grasshopper’s head with liberalism and feminism? NO.
Kwai Chang “Caine” (David Carradine) was always observing the world around him, and freely moving about, he did not partake of women, he’d rather stand in the realm of truth.
This show from what I remember, always ended in justice, with Caine walking down a road like the incredible hulk. MGTOW.COM has page showing the same, a man by himself walking away.
The similarities are astounding, the temple: (MGTOW.COM). The Grasshoppers, Young Men thirsting for truths and freedom in a setting of liberty and justice. The Masters: Older men that have witnessed the destruction of the Holly City (COUNTRY) and the murder of the Emperor (MANLINESS). Below are Quotations, You be the Judge Jury, and Executioner.
‘Of all things, to live in darkness must be the worst.’ -Young Caine
‘Fear is the only darkness.’ -Master Po
‘Never assume that because a man has no eyes, he cannot see.’ -Master Po
‘Close your eyes. What do you hear?’ -Master Po
‘I hear the water. I hear the birds.’ -Young Caine
‘Do you hear your own heartbeat?’ -Master Po
‘No.’ -Young Caine
‘Do you hear the grasshopper which at your feet?’ -Master Po
‘Old Man, how is it that you hear these things?’ -Young Caine
‘Young Man, how is it that you do not?’ -Master Po“Weakness prevails over strength. Gentleness conquers. Become the calm and restful breeze that tames the violent sea. -Master Kan”
► ‘You sit by yourself grasshopper. What do you think of?’ -Master Po
‘My mother, my father. Both gone. I am alone.’ -Disciple Caine
‘You hear the flock of birds flying overhead? You hear the fish? The beetle? In this crowded place you feel alone. Which of us is the most blind? -Master Po
► To know nature is to put oneself in perfect harmony with the universe. Heaven and earth are one. So must we seek a discipline of mind and body within ourselves. -Caine
► ‘What endures, Master?’ -young Caine
‘The sun endures. The moon endures. Life endures.’ -Master Po
► What is a tree without roots? The deeper into the earth the roots reach, the stronger the tree. -Master Kan

@roydal: I saw the first two movies, for a limited budget I thought they were okay, but since that book is my all-time favorite unless they were to do a Peter Jackson “Rings” production value for it obviously for me they can never do justice. I have no idea how someone who’s never read any of Ayn Rand’s books would perceive it, but here’s a review from Netflix on it, from whom I just put that movie into my queue as #1 (ty for letting us know it’s out there for rental) 🙂
4 out of 5 stars: Were all of the actors recast from the last movie? Yes. Did it feel like a made for T.V. movie? Yes. Was it as good as the book? No. However, the message is not lost in this movie. The producer and director did a great job transferring the story and the message to the big screen. As for the acting, the actors in the second film were better (especially Dagny and Francisco) with the exception of John Galt who was very good in this film. It is a good movie and a faithful adaptation of the book. Did everything from the book make it to the movie? Of course not. Even in The Lord of the Rings the burning of The Shire was left out due to time constraints. And there was no way that they could have read John Galt’s 63 page monologue in its entirety. But every single line in the movie was from the book. Every scene was from the book. Also, the pacing was good and it led up to a satisfying climax. Would it have been better with a bigger budget? Probably. However, modern Hollywood would never touch this movie with a ten foot pole. Whilst it is not Lord of the Rings or War and Peace (in terms of two large budget and beautiful multi-movie adaptations of very large books), it is a good movie which stays amazingly true to the source material. You can tell that the director and the producer poured their lives into the making of the movie. Go see it.

@MG-Tower – I forgot about Kung Fu! Thanks for mentioning that! I grew up on that!! I would watch it every day after school. Good stuff.

I’m going to hunt up a set of the DVDs. Thanks for the tip!

@gonegalt That is an interesting article about the decline in ticket sales. BTW, I’ve ordered up a set of the Ayn Rand movies on DVD. Thanks for bringing article and movies to my attention.
In case anyone is curious about what GoneGalt and I are talking about, it is the Atlas Shrugged series. “Who is John Galt?” is the famous line from Rand’s novel (and a tee shirt slogan too). “Going Galt” is what MGTOW used to be called before there was a MGTOW.
Here’s the trailer to the first in the series:

Anonymous42Hey Roy Dale, thanks for the enlightenment on going Gault, No thanks for competing on the Kung Fu series, I have the full set for Hogans Heroes, others I’m working on, just yesterday I told my bro I’m getting the full series of K F.
It’s a shame there’s nothing entertaining anymore, unless you want to play political translation! The feminists ruined everything, even Thor got his prick cut off, and the political translation: Don’t own a garbage disposal! I’m past one decade without the <programming>
It’s my mind, I’ll feed it what I want! Or just starve hollywierd all together, and that’s what I’m doing, fk television. I got the Internet! Testosterone here and there, and very rare! All the feminists, manginas and white knights are collectively destroying the entertainment industry. A dream come true!
@roydal: I don’t want to leave the false impression that ‘Going Galt’ is the same as MGTOW – it is similar but one key element is missing: the red pill with regards to women. When I personally went Galt back in 2003 and retired, that part had nothing to do with women, simply a reaction to the recognition of what this political system is and why I didn’t want to contribute any more than necessary monetarily to it. In the same year I also began living as a MGTOW but in all honesty it was not directly related, it was just a realization on my part on how I wanted to live the rest of my life after having been with toxic women, either intimately or as ‘friends’, and probably was easier to do because of the freedom I experienced from going Galt. But it’s undeniable that after a dose of the red pill you can extrapolate the GG concepts to include women. It’s a movement directed at the state and society – the best explanation I’ve seen is naturally given at a website called The Atlas Society – the link is below. However, John Galt definitely exudes MGTOW as well as several of the key male protagonists in the novel (and so does Howard Roark in “The Fountainhead”) – perhaps that’s sometimes why people like Dr. Helen Smith got the two confused …

Here are the key points:
“Going Galt” doesn’t simply mean getting angry. That would be “Going Postal.” It means having righteous indignation at the injustice of a political system that bails out individuals and institutions for irresponsible behavior and at the expense of those like you who prosper through hard work and personal responsibly.
“Going Galt” means asking in the face of new taxes and government controls, “Why work at all?” “For whom am I working?” “Am I a slave?”
“Going Galt” means recognizing that you’re being punished not for your vices but for your virtues.
“Going Galt” means recognizing that you have a moral right to your own life, the pursuit of your own happiness, and thus to the rewards you’ve earned with your labor.
“Going Galt” means recognizing that you deserve praise and honor for your achievements rather than damnation as “exploiters.”
“Going Galt” means recognizing that you do not need to justify your life or wealth to your neighbors, “society,” or politicians, or bureaucrats. They’re yours, period!
“Going Galt” means recognizing that the needs of others do not give them a claim to your time, effort, and achievements.
“Going Galt” means shrugging off unearned guilt, refusing to support your own destroyers, refusing to give them what Ayn Rand termed “the sanction of the victim.” It means taking the moral high ground by explicitly rejecting as evil the premise of “self-sacrifice” that they sell to you as a virtue— in fact “self-sacrifice” is an invitation to suicide.

Hey Gault, thanks for that description, I couldn’t add more, My Gaulting is still under way, I’m liquidating everything, and removing my name from the coffers of Chase Manhattan, I have more than enough equity, but capital gains will hurt, but hurt only once, after that I’m ghosting!
My own food and fuel production is my focus, plus the fastest ridding of dollars ever attempted! By that I mean buying supplies and tangible metals, from 1,000 lb ingot’s of zinc and copper to (unrecorded) silver. Gold is a suckers bet. You can tell by the “PUSH” to sell gold, and it’s recorded by the “GOVERNMENT”. I’ve learned to read things differently then the average, bahhh, bahhh, “SHE’OPLE”, BAHHHH BAHHHH BHAAAAAA!
This surely qualifies as a really cool MGTOW flick, The world’s fastest Indian / Anthony Hopkins.

@GoingGalt,
I acknowledge the distinctions you raised. I was over-simplifying to make a point (sort of hyperbole in reverse).Frankly, MGTOW, as we understand and live it, would have never been thought of back when Ayn Rand was formulating the philosophy of Objectivism. The legal environment and social mores were that different back then.
Heh! I miss the good old days and I wasn’t even there! I guess that makes me a “young fogy” or something.

Hey Roy Our shop was in view of the old Indian plant on State st. (Boston post road) I watched half of it burn in the early 80’s, all the years that oil soaked into the wood floors caused it go up like a can of gas. My grandmother rode a chief. In my family even the women are MGTOW.
I like the way Hopkins burned his lawn (that’s what brother does), and the way he judged no one, and treated everybody with respect, It was a great movie! And YES he played a perfect MGHOW!
