Speaking of lakes I want to move here -trouble is property (real estate) costs a fortune and it’s full of tourists in the summer as it’s only 1 1/2 hours from 2 major cities plus Japanese Tourists like it because it’s near all the Beatrix Potter Bollox.

either there or near The Kneedles on the Isle of White (an Island of The south Coast of england -40 minutes by ferry from Portsmouth)-water is very calming.

That’s nice and all, but I like undeveloped pristine lakes with tremendous water clarity, you can see to the bottom and the enormous fresh water fish in between.

I’ve seen farming communities in Connecticut with ponds florescent green from gross amounts of algae! Their lakes look more like cesspools than fisheries!

This was the best part of any group therapy. Come in, talk about the weekend, and as long as the women were gone, the meetings were great.

A DV class turned out to be how to properly apply Rain X to your windshield.

Man, that 400W amp. Looks like we got some old skool audio guys here.

Geez Maybe that’s why we are all here. Cuz we all kind of knew something was wrong.

I bet you there is a MGTOW gene. Hmm..

Anyways, LOVE this thread. Should be on top gun. I vote for it.

I don’t know about Gargamel, but I thought I read that Colin said he never has partaken in the imbibing of spirits.

Nonetheless, the more the merrier. Gargamel can bring the cats and Colin can bring the weird and crazy. I like them both.

Well, I hate to tell on myself, but I am looking forward to a beer and a bloody mary at my favorite hangout. It’s a Tuesday ritual for me. There’s a little place nearby on my way home from work that has been there since the late forties/early fifties and not much has changed there in all that time.

I’ll have several drinks, but before I leave, I’ll have some of the best food around here. It’s the best fried chicken house around and we have several of those. Real good cheeseburgers there as well.

I drink out of sheer boredom, stress, and wanting to have a good evening for once, followed by quickly falling asleep.

Boredom: been stuck at home for the past 7 years. Life consists of sitting on ass, doing chores in the house, going grocery shopping once or twice a week, eating at parents once a week, taking a walk 1-3 times a week (mostly 1 or only once every two weeks).

Stress: I f~~~ing hate my life and I wish I was healthy again so I could do whatever normal people do. How long will this last? Will this be going on for the rest of my life? Never be able to watch a band playing live, or even hang out with friends anymore?

Good evening: once I’ve had two rum ‘n cokes (about 40% rum, 60% cola), I loosen up and enjoy talking to people more on discord, skype or forums. Third R&C and I feel the buzz, usually put on a movie or series at this point. Fourth R&C: feeling pretty alright, knowing I’m drunk. After that I’m mostly still online talking crap (either here, on zoom or to a buddy on steam), playing a game or finishing the movie.

I swallow down 500ml of rum and about 750ml of cola each time I drink (so half a bottle each) and do that two nights in a row in the weekends. Thought lately I’ve gone to the supermarket at the last possible moment to get more rum during the weekdays. Either a 1000ml bottle or a 700ml bottle (of which I drink 500ml and toss the rest away). Did this a few times, last time was Sunday evening, woke up terribly hungover on Monday and I just want to call quits.

It’s f~~~ing expensive (14 euro or 17 dollars for a 1000ml bottle, 10 euro or 12 dollar for a 700ml bottle, plus a 1500ml bottle of coke costs 2 euro here)… Say that I don’t drink during weekdays, that’s still 16 euro per week for alcohol, 2 euro for the cola, makes 18 (22 dollar) per week to get drunk, that’s about 80 euro per month. Now people will laugh at me complaining about such a low amount of money spent on it, but I’m on welfare, even below minimum income and also have to pay for my tobacco, which is roughly the same amount of money, which leads to 160 euro per month spending on my vices, and that’s a lot.

edit: from 2011 ’til 2014 I lived with my parents again, then got my own place. Didn’t drink that much for two years, but these last two years I’ve been drinking a lot more. Tried glutenfree beer, but it either tasted like water or really “dry”, and no matter the brand, I always got a huge hangover from them. Did red wine, but that started to give me big hangovers too (like my body was telling me something, huh?), then switched to rum/coke a year ago. Yesterday’s hangover told me it’s time to stop with that too, so unless I’m gonna chug down absinthe, it’s better to stop cold turkey. I emptied the remainder of my rum down the sink and said “no more.”

edit2: I can’t cut back on the drinking, because if I’m not drunk by the time I’m done, I have a VERY tough time falling asleep, so cutting back to 3 or 2 glasses instead of 4 will only f~~~ me up more.

edit3: there is a small blessing in my condition, and ut’s that I don’t nearly drink as much as when I was 18-25 and went to the pub with friends. I’d have lots of beers, a couple shots of goldstrike, maybe a whiskey and then it was back home drunk as f~~~ (yet I almost never had any serious hangovers). These days it’s 4 tall ones (glutenfree beer) or 4 glasses of rum and coke, and I’m done, else I’d drink half a tray or an entire bottle, hehe. The difference is: when I was still healthy I never felt like drinking at home, and if we’d skip a weekend of pubbing, I’d have a sober weekend.

edit4: also, it’s this f~~~ing ridiculous beergut I started developing. I went from skinny f~~~er to skinny FAT f~~~er in about 6 years time, going from 176lb to 230lb, and most of it sits snugly in my 6 months pregnant belly, f~~~ing ridiculous. My uncle was exactly the same: skinny as f~~~ as a kid, then started gaining quite some weight, but what “saves” him is that he became bulky, strong and broad-shouldered as a teenager, whereas I was whip-thin, stayed that way, and now walk around with this beer baby sticking out from the front *sigh*

you have to decide to drink less.
    as far as pubs,
    always bad news.
costly and easy to lose track of how many you had.
    .
it comes down to a decision on your part.
    good luck w it,
the bottle is tempting to crawl into.
    tough to get out of
    though..

This! My father is an alcoholic. He can’t go a day without a beer. Sometimes, even an hour. It’s nothing for him to down a case in a day, or two days. He’s been drinking since he was 13 back when the bartenders knew him and his family and used to serve him. He partied in the military like most young men do. At his worst, I saw him violently get the shakes from alcohol withdrawal. There was a time that he was filling 2 recycle bins, and a 4 foot trashcan with beer cans and booze bottles every week for about 3-4 months.

Aside from his own purchases, he had a friend who worked delivering alcohol to liquor stores, that would bring him cases upon cases of beer any given week. Dad drank it like it was water. Beer, blackberry brandy, peppermint schnapps, whiskey… You name it. Most weekends when he’s not working, it’s not unusual to see him stumbling around, inebriated by noontime/2pm. Thankfully it never interfered with his work, and he never woke up in a different state, or next to a dumpster. I had to bail him out of nearly getting a DUI once though.

Seeing my father, and then hearing stories of how my grandfather would be after drinking when my dad and uncles were growing up, that’s when I decided alcohol really wasn’t for me. I drink it, but I drink it in serious moderation (even though I’ve gotten drunk 2-3 times in my life) because I know alcoholism runs in my family.

Ever since most of my emotions went away in 2017, I really have no urge to drink. I think a few years ago, I might have gotten inebriated.

Once in a while the gf gets me to try a glass of something she brings, but that’s about it.

Not giving a f~~~ kind of removes most incentive to drink

All my life I've had doubts about who I am, where I belonged. Now I'm like the arrow that springs from the bow. No hesitation, no doubts. The path is clear. And what are you? Alive. Everything else is negotiable. Women have rights; men have responsibilities; MGTOW have freedom. Marriage is for chumps. You ever heard and old fog horn -that’s what my bass tube was like

My neighbor used to play his trumpet on the water, the echoes were awesome, also had a bag piper in the family play amazing grace on the same jetty, it’s an enormous amphitheater, I learned when I was a kid you can hear what people are saying all around the lake, I learned to watch what I was saying anywhere near the water! Calm water the sound travels unabated.

HOLY S~~~ – I leave for a lunch meeting and this thread has gone awry! Makes me wanna pop a top on a cold beer.

Oh yeah- water makes the voice carry. I pulled my boat over at just passed dusk and bent a girl over the console. She was very vocal and I kept trying to hush her. She said no one could hear us. Then way across the lake people started cheering.

I finished high school in a fairly well-to-do neighborhood. The neighbors across the back lot were well over a block away (large properties by virtue of being a really OLD neighborhood passed down by inheritance). One night they had citronella torches burning and a small group was having an orgy in the hot tub, convinced that nobody could hear them. I’m walking the dog as I round a corner and hear their voices carry: “Is he gone?”

Never assume people can’t hear you.

Four years ago I decided enough was enough. I was putting down a liter of Tequila every night plus beer. Haven’t had a drop since. I am having the time of my life.
You have to really, in your heart want to stop. I have no want or need for a drink any more. I am done going down that road, no intentions of returning. No more feeling like s~~~ in the morning, no more hangovers, and yes good sleep at night. When you decide, is when you will do what you want. Good luck, brother, I’ll be here to talk.

CombatRoll – we derailed your threat some but here’s my serious answer.

The solution lies in making small changes.

Cutting down how much you drink when you drink but continue the frequency. Once the amount you consume is reduced to level you are comfortable then reduce the frequency.

Fill you time with other activities that run counter to alcohol. Some sort of Hobby that sidelines alcohol.

Often with excessive substance use there may be underlying psychological reasons for the attraction to the substance.

Do a bit of introspection and ask yourself what is it about alcohol that makes it feel so rewarding to you.

Ultimately – realise that it’s always going to be there. You can have some whenever you want so hold off for a day or several.

Dont forget that as we age we develop age related illness which are largely the product of our lifestyle.

I don’t know how old you are. Maybe you she time on your side. Maybe you don’t.

But either way it’s rewarding to develop self mastery.

    I wish you well.

If you are determined – you will succeed.

The object of life is not to be on the side of the majority, but to escape, finding oneself in the ranks of the insane. Marcus Aurelius
