What stayed in my memory after reading the books was the gloom, the ever present technology and surveillance, and the lack of warmth and compassion between people.

William Gibson is one of the best. If someone hasn’t read Neuromancer, they’ve missed out. I have an old second hand copy still, but I haven’t read it since the 1980s. I’m a bit of an old school book packrat…

Part IV. Decentralization and putting your own mask on first.

While we’re busy infiltrating, it’s important to understand both personal protection and forming external economies of scale.

I don’t think there’s a more important idea than decentralization. It’s a very obvious thing when you think about it, but it’s not necessarily immediately apparent.

An obvious example is the Internet itself. It was built as a decentralized communications system capable of routing around any nest of machines that may fail. Now, we have seen the likes of Google, Facebook, Twitter, et al – “institutions” that are little more than ginormous website corner massive amounts of traffic. Through censorship, these are little more than new areas of govt-sanctioned spectrum where a handful of participants is increasingly controlling the flow of information. In the early days of the Internet, the client-server architecture lent itself well to the available power of machines. Now, it’s clear that P2P architectures are a way around levels of censorship and control P2P is decentralized – like the original concept of the Internet. Client-server is centralized – little more than online ghettos where people are controlled, like in so many other areas of their lives…

Fiat currencies – people dedicate their lives to acquiring made up currencies just to live. They’re fiat, for f~~~’s sake. They can be generated at random. Why have taxation if they can be printed at will? Control via centralization.

Handfuls of companies control your food, water, electricity. I believe it was in 2008 that, for the first time in human history, more people crowded into easily controlled cities than lived in rural settings. In this day and age where we have the best travel and communications infrastructure in history of man, people are being herded like cattle into centralized locations when technology enables exactly the opposite. For decades, rural families have sent their young men to universities and then to the cities “to live better lives.” Bulls~~~. We’re generating our own demise. Welcome to the problem of centralization. It’s time to break this electronic surveillance state. We have the ability to do this.

Ever notice that the “solution” to “climate change” simply involves taxing you more and depriving you of the excess income you may need for more of your own goals? It’s not a coincidence.

To live free and have the ability for self-determination, we must simply reject anything that increases centralization. Let’s take a controversial example: Internet neutrality. Sounds like a good thing, right? It ensures some companies, like your ISP, won’t throttle competitive services like Netflix. Sounds good, right? Wrong. It opens the door for regulation of content that flows through your ISP’s pipes. Bad idea. Once you set a precedent for control – you better f~~~ing sure hope you never lose control of the govt itself. It is an unsustainable monster that seeks to gain continual power. And power corrupts….

So what’s the solution? Decentralization wherever possible. Don’t support consolidation of power. Don’t support Netflix, Amazon, Google, Starbucks, Microsoft, … We can, and must, build alternatives. Look at the effect of bittorrent, Tor, cryptocurrencies… There’s already a lot of technology out there we can leverage. Leave the f~~~ing cities – break their power. Let’s use and/or customize technologies like OpenBazaar and do increasing business amongst ourselves. Let me give you a big vision in and of itself: killing Amazon.

What is Amazon, really? It’s an easy to use website. It has customer service agents, warehouses, etc. Why not create a really easy to use, P2P-based site with easy external web access and federate the business? There are people all over that would be with us from whom we could leverage warehouse space. Shipping has a lot of alternatives. Let people host products. You need a central company for quality control, service, and management of logistics. You can federate out the products, warehousing, shipping, etc. I say ‘federate’ because it could be a company based on Ethereum with digital contracts that occur after vetting participants. It could operate in a co-op style. It’s possible. It’s a big project with a lot of moving parts, but it opens the door for all of us to participate in building it and gaining wealth from it as it deprives a company that’s clearly an enemy via their support of the current social insanity. There’s no magic here. It’s possible. More importantly, if you live out somewhere and own an empty building, there’s a business opportunity for you just by warehousing on contract. And you’d be a part owner with an incentive to leave the centralized structure of Amazon.

And why not do this with many different businesses? We are the economy. We are the builders. Let’s not feed the plunderers.

I can go on and on with details here. This is where my skillset shines, but in the interest of time, I’m going to leave this here for now to hit on decentralization. Next part is around self-preservation – each person’s own worst case plan and how working together with those ideas only benefits the idea of infiltration, and ultimately, of rebuilding…

Nobody’s making you read it. I’m not begging for your blessing. Again, if no one’s interested in this point of view and it’s not for around here, then fine. If I had a way of putting in soundbites, I’d have done it. I don’t. I posted that up front and I only went on with the topic because some guys here thought it may be interesting. I also said it’s not for everyone. If I don’t care for a topic or have anything to contribute, I don’t get involved. Is this forum only for posts that high post count member approve? What’s the problem?

I thought it fit better with a wider discussion that’s about more than politics. Politics is a piece of it, but not all of it. It’s about using technology, notably communications tech, to push forward a bigger agenda. It’s about training. It’s about a lot more things. That’s all. Nothing else.

Like I said, I’m more than willing to drop it, or if a mod thinks it’s better in Political and other people are interested, then I’ll continue to have a dialog with anyone interested.
