I quit smoking cigarette’s today…I know, I don’t need any special whatever…Just throwing it out there as I may need a brother or two’s help from time to time to help me get through this…I am not sure what it is, I have tried quitting a million and three times, but this time feels different, like I know I can make it…Feels good…25 year smoking habit…Ii am fairly intelligent, fairly wise, and here I am battling a habit that any smart person never would have even taken up, I feel so dad-gum stupid for being in this boat to begin with…I have to give it up now though, my health is s~~~ and not getting any better, and the only thing I have had going for me is that I played sports my entire childhood and stayed very active through my adulthood…But I can feel the cigarette’s doing damage…I also was watching Star Trek Enterprise, and was thinking to myself, Man if I want to make it to like 2050 or have any chance at even hoping I can travel in space, I have to be healthier…I have to at least be alive…So today is as good as any…Done with those nasty little killer sticks…Want to share your quit story, please do, any and all comments except douche baggery are welcome…I don’t need any of that…Please….

I’m in the same boat. I haven’t quit yet but I know I need to. I have one cigarette left so maybe this will be the day for me too.

I am out as of three minutes ago. Now you guys are making me debate myself as to why I should buy another pack. Thanks for the reminder, best wishes to both of you.

Quit a couple of times, always fell back into the bad habit. I´m vaping now for 6 weeks after 30 yrs of smoking, don´t feel the least need for a cigarette anymore. I don´t say vaping is healthy, but my stamina got a lot better since then, also my smelling sense improved a lot too. Hardly can stand the smell of cigarettes anymore. It may be an option for people that are having hard times with stopping completely.

Next is mixing my own liquids, will start this weekend.

Congratulations @jeremiah, you`re gonna make it!

I read somewhere that eating raisins when you want a cigarette helps to calm the craving. I haven’t tried it but just throwing it out there.

I’ve been smoking for about 16 years now and bought an e-cig a week or three ago. Trying to build down on smoking normal tobacco, currently doing 75% smoking and 25% vaping. I’m going to slowly reverse those numbers (66/33, 50/50, 33/66. 25/75, 0/100) and see how that goes. It’s impossible for me to stop cold turkey.

Just wanted to say that you have my utmost respect for making the decision.

Only advice I would give is to make it as easy on yourself as you can. Don’t hang around other smokers…that sort of thing.

    Ok. Then do it.

Took me several attemts. For a while I chewed on plastic straws so my hands would have something to do.
What finaly did it for me, other than pure desire to quit was..
Instead of seeing myself as someone trying to quit smokeing,I started seeing my self as a nonsmoker. Symantics of the mind, mabey, but it worked for me.
    Never give up trying!

Here’s the way I see it. Nicotine isn’t bad. The chemicals and tar are bad. So I justify that then run to the store for organic non-additive smokes and call it good. Maybe OP could switch to those and the gradually cut back.

What does a pack of smokes cost? $6/pack? That comes out to roughly $180/month if you smoke a pack a day. That’s $2160/year! Think of the positive things you could do with that money.

I hope you don’t give in to the cravings if you have a nic fit. I hear a lot of ex-smokers say that if you can wait 15 to 20 minutes when you start having a craving, then they subside and you can move on. You can do it.

I used porn for something like 16 years, and I felt like you, do not know if anyone can understand this, but to me porn was like smoking, needed my little fix and so it goes on and on.

I’ve tried to stop it for more than 8 months now, and I am at a good point. If you really want to stop an habit, whatever it is, I have some good advices:
Usually bad habits are related to some things, to me porn was related to boredom and use of the PC. For you it could be pauses from job, or doing something else while smoking, so when you are in these moments focus on changing your mind to do something else, anything that will take your mind somewhere else and not to a cigarette.
Do not make your battle against an addiction your new addiction; meaning that it is easier if you focus on something else, to me the best thing to quit porn is avoiding sex thoughts, avoiding movies/shows with excessive nudity/sex etc.
To you it could be avoid certain things that were correlated to smoke.

If you relapse do not get down or angry, it happens, just do not surrender your goal. Everytime it happens learn what you did wrong and avoid it the next time.
The best piece of advice that I got was to avoid the HALT states: hungry, angry, lonely, tired. I realized that in those states I was more likely to fall to an old habit that I want to avoid, instead of fixing those with what was needed (food, calm down activities, joining friends, resting).

Leaving any addiction/bad habit is f~~~ing hell, because your body crave it, and when you take that thing away it will get angry like a woman, and try to slap you in order to bring you back. But if you manage to win the fight in the end you will not only feel better, you will have the satisfaction about being in total control of your life.

Oh, and to be clear, I am not avoiding masturbation(it is totally natural if not done each day, 5 times a day, IMO), I am just tired of porn and want it out, fake pussy does not help me that much anymore, a real one can tho, too bad for what surrounds it.

So I justify that then run to the store for organic non-additive smokes and call it good.

I smoked American Spirit for more than 10 years (no additives), but there´s still the tar. Now I have at least no tar anymore and enjoy the various fruit tastes that I vape and save a lot of money at 20 cents (euro) of vaping a day. The good thing is I can now easier reduce my nicotine with this, till I possibly end up at 0 and maybe stop completely.
I don´t know what all that glycerine does to my lungs, will have an eye on studies concerning vaping.

One of the best decisions you can make in your life. Cigarettes are pure poison, was addicted twice in life to this s~~~, battled like crazy to snap out of it, hopefully for the last time. Stay strong, it only takes 1-2 weeks and you will be fine and good effects start soon.

I quit about 20 years ago. probably one of the things that helped me most was telling myself that I could do whatever I wanted, within reason and my financial limitations, except have a cigarette.
For example, instead of a cigarette, how about a banana split, a beer, new video game, or whatever ? Do whatever it takes NOT to have a cigarette.

-Calcium supplements help keep you relaxed
-Brush your teeth after you eat to help kill the craving
-I think after like 7 days, all the cravings are psychological so hopefully you can talk yourself out of it.
This is stuff I remember rom 20 years ago when I went cold turkey. The internet is probably full of useful tips.

I’ve quite twice JJ and the only way I was able to was by going cold turkey. The second and final time I quit, I was on vacation in Myrtle Beach with an ex about 7 years ago. When I would smoke, I would smoke on the way to and from work, and also take smoke breaks at work. I think getting out of the smoking routine for a week was what did it. Take it one day at a time brother.

I quit smoking 8 months ago and unlike my mother and countless others who go back to the habit or sneak cigarettes here and there or drags when they’re drunk I can say easily I will never ever smoke again. You are asking, how is this possible? A book yes a book I know it sounds crazy but it really worked do your research. You read this book and smoke all the live long day/week/month/3 months while you read it. What’s the catch? Regardless of how long it takes you to finish the book when you are done reading it you smoke the last cigarette you will ever smoke.
I also got an app for my iPhone called Kwit that at first gives you hourly updates about what is happening in your body as the nicotine leaves your system and it prods you along and encourages you on your journey telling you about your health and financial gains over a period of like 3 years. Links below and good luck I’m telling you this is the way I have no desire the first couple of months were a lil weird but it really is smooth sailing now.

I never started smoking, but I was a heavy drinker for a while. New years will make my fourth year sober. It CAN be done, and YOU can do it. I know it won’t be easy, but it is by no means impossible.
