This is just my opinion. Please throw it away if you want. Thinking out loud here . . .

Yes Alberta can be cold and the winters are long

When you think about it, Canada is only 150 years old, with 1/10th the population of the US …. and are humans even “supposed” to live (up) there in those conditions?? I wondered.

I visited Calgary 6 years ago. It was May 1 and there was still that crusty, salty black unmolten snow in the gutters… with flurries falling when the plane landed. NO tree in the city had leaves on it. It was very grey and dull.

Conversely, I have also visited Banff in the summer, and it’s unbelievably beautiful, so I’m not bashing, but the Calgary experience was not. . . . very uplifting. I was considering working there for at least 6 months, but decided against it.

For some reason, I have lost motivation to do anything.

Mid-life isn’t easy but I also wouldn’t call it a “crisis” for men at all. There is a noticeable adjustment though. I supposed I would call it the “is that all there is?” stage of life.

By mid 30s, I stopped “romanticizing” and day-dreaming. Before that , I had crazy stupid dreams. I even day dreamed of flying. . . like a bird. I started becoming more grounded. Even Christmas was no longer charming. Everything seemed like an obligation.

I was disenchanted with a lot of things in my early 30s. “No fire” is a good way to put it.

I know a professional “star” in the performing arts who said he has a hard time performing because he lost his “spark”. He now does it as a more of a duty. The glamor faded and it became a “job” for him.

Believe this stage passes and evolves into something else.

One (friend) committed suicide because of family/career demands. He jumped right in front of a train.

I too lost a fiend who jumped in front of a train – over a breakup. He was 19. I was 20/21. I also lost two colleagues. One to suicide and the other in a motorcycle accident. LONG before their time.

Oh yes! That’s an excellent suggestion. A dog will take up as much of your time as you’re willing to afford also.

Excellent idea. “Man’s best friend” for a reason.

Overall, I don’t know what to tell you, but it sure helps to know you’re VERY understood by others. I find motivation (and relaxation) in the piano, and spending time outdoors. Whatever works I suppose. I also work like a bastard and quite prefer keeping busy. My friend fixes and customizes cars, which is like a weekend project I do with him for the last 8 years. I helped rebuilt an engine , took it apart, chromed and powder-coated it all summer. It was a lot of fun.

If I had the time, I would buy an old cool car and take my time fixing it up.
Don’t know if you have any interests like that.

Are you getting enough Vitamin D3 since you live so far north?

Good question. I definitely experience a dreaded feeling with lack of sunlight, and get a noticeable boost out of it.

MAcho – No offence to you, but prefer if you don’t respond to my thread. You look real creepy.

FYI Macho always had a Hulk-face avatar until recently, too.
He’s a first class member here – as are all who are responding to you.

    Be kind to him.

Hahahah YES I live in this area and it gets stupid cold. There are two seasons:
    1) Winter 2) Construction
And winter lasts 8 months not even joking. There is usually rough turbulence while landing at the airport.

Conversely, I have also visited Banff in the summer, and it’s unbelievably beautiful, so I’m not bashing, but the Calgary experience was not. . . . very uplifting. I was considering working there for at least 6 months, but decided against it.

Banff is gorgeous (Waterton Park area is beautiful) and Jasper is nice too. Glad you enjoyed it, the northern lights are also amazing, not as frequent in those areas but very cool to experience.

    nice

If women ran the world = It would become the shithole you are seeing.
