But guys ,to say there not dangerous?

Anybody with a brain knows motorcycles are dangerous.
But that’s WHY they ride them.
Is SAFETY more important than FUN?

Women will tell you “married men live longer”.
But an indoor cat “lives longer” too.

It’s a fur ball with a broken spirit that looks out at a world it will never enjoy, but technically, it does “live longer”.

If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.

It’s so random you can go mental just trying to accept the reality of it.

You definitely can. Which is why I don’t worry about that s~~~ in the long run.

There’s no point in living a boring “safe” life if you can’t have fun and do “dangerous” things in life sometimes. I’d rather take the risks of riding a motorcycle than to have live a life of regretting not doing it.

In reality, everything is potentially dangerous. Living your life based on whether a certain activity is safe or not is completely stupid.

Some guys that dont have the b~~~~ to ride give you s~~~ about it ,cause they cant face there own fear.

I agree with that. Talking about riding a motorcycle around people who just ride cars or trucks because they’re “safer” than motorcycles can be irritating at times. Especially if they never road a motorcycle themselves.

My point exactly. One of the things that draws me to riding a motorcycle is because they’re “dangerous”

I’m not much of a thrill seeker by any means, but living a safe boring lifestyle all the f~~~ing time is extremely stupid to me.

The idea of riding motorcycles gives me a thrill of adventure a car would never give me.

I don’t care either way if you ride or not, but seriously all the shaming about something so trivial. What next? I’m not a REAL MAN if I decide I don’t want to ride?

And Asia??? Holy f~~~. American streets are liked roped red carpets compared to that chaos.

I’m assuming India/Bangladesh is the worst. If you learn how to ride there – you get such mad skills you can do something like this:

I have no idea what kind of model I’m going to get, but I’m going to search around for some great ones. In one of the posts Silverstone posted, I do like the bike @keymaster wants to get (2008 Ducati Sport 1000). Motorcycles like that are awesome as f~~~.

If you could drive around those countries with ANY vehicle, you could be able to drive around anywhere in the world. Those countries are f~~~ed up as far as their traffic goes.

I rode 30,000+ ks in a year doing courier work before giving it up to repetitive strain injury from a cable clutch.

Heaps of fun, ended up costing as much as a car to run and maintain which was a surprise.

A few near misses, traffic merging into your road position. Not stopping in the rain, basically sliding a long way down a hill on slippery road passing through a pedestrian crossing after touching the break to slow to a stop.

A few too close moments with guard rails taking on the twisties.

Other things to note are tires wear alot quicker on a bike, and its not fun riding on thin rubber.

Gave it up for years but jump on the occasional scooter when holidaying in Asia. Prob more risky there in the neon jungle, but it only takes 1 crash to crush, kill or maim.

Ride like everyone is trying to kill you and you are invisible is a good start to staying clear of trouble. Know the weather forecast, and the more busy the roads the worse the cluster f~~~.

I rode a street bike for awhile in my younger days. Once came around a 90 degree turn into a sharp dip to quickly then uphill steep and I laid it right down sliding uphill and into the curb on my side with the bike. I leapt up, over the bike as it hit the curb tires first, cleared the sidewalk, landed in a front yard and slid 10 yards right past a huge tree. Got up like a Ninja, and was just fine. And this was less dangerous than dodging people who don’t see me in their mirrors from time to time…

At 20, I was fine with it. 20 something years later? I am going to hold off a bit. I know if I did ride again I would be pretty mellow.

Anytime the topic of motorcycles come up, whether it’s with family or friends, most if not all of them give these bulls~~~ excuses as to why “motorcycles are dangerous, you should never ride one” I just can’t help but call them on their bulls~~~.

If anything, riding motorcycles are far SAFER than riding motor vehicles. This is because when you ride a motorcycle, you’re FORCED to be aware of your surroundings every second you’re driving.

If anything, driving a car or a truck is more dangerous because you have more blind spots since the vehicle is bigger. You’re also more comfortable, which means you’re prone to making more mistakes.

The only time I ever see motorcyclists get into a crash is because they were trying to lane split at high speeds, trying to be a show off and do stunts, race, or because other drivers in cars and trucks weren’t paying attention to the road.

I’ve been thinking about getting my motorcycle license and taking classes in a few months, but I don’t think I’ll ever tell my family I did for the main reason they’ll bring up all the fake bulls~~~ on why “motorcycles are dangerous.”

From what I’ve seen, in motorcycle vlogs on Youtube especially, most motorcyclists are some of the safest drivers ever. They’re always trying to look for ways to improve how they can drive safe on the road and are always aware of their surroundings.

This fear of riding motorcycles is complete bulls~~~ to me honestly. I have no idea why people are so fearful to even try riding a motorcycle at least once in their life.

I’ve been riding motorcycles on the street since 1977.
Here is my wisdom and you can take it or leave it
Bikes are a lot more powerful today than yesterday: ditto for cars
Roads (in my state) are in far worse shape than they were 20-30 even 40 years ago.
DRIVERS are BY FAR MORE DISTRACTED today than in the past. With TEXTING, Yaking on their cell phones, or playing Pokemon Go…the distracted drivers flat out do NOT see a bike rider.
Women are the same: focused on the mirror looking at themselves and/or applying makeup or screaming at the kids in the back seat: STAY the HELL AWAY from women drivers!!!!

Road Ragers: there are far more road ragers and aggressive drivers today than there were 30 years ago.

Some pointers: YES IF the RIDER has REALLY good situational awareness they can AVOID a LOT of trouble on the road.
HOWEVER there are times in which getting into an accident is UNAVOIDABLE. I had my FIRST ACCIDENT on a bike in 2009. 32 years of riding, with way too many close calls, and I finally got into a situation where my ONLY CHOICE was to CRASH. My choice was CRASH into the woman driver OR let her push me into ONCOMING TRAFFIC.
I chose to crash: HIGH SIDED and flew into an intersection doing 50. AND the ONLY thing that saved my ass was HIGH QUALITY GEAR.
I had the BEST full face helmet I could afford, Leathers, Body Armor, Racing Boots, Armored Gloves, etc.

IT is NEVER a matter of IF you are going to crash; it is a matter of WHEN you are going to crash.

So IF you are going to ride: GET THE BEST GEAR YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON and WEAR IT!

On a bike: At night let a car be ahead of you and off to the side; use the cars headlights to see a littler further down the road than you normally would have.

Split Lanes: FEWER ACCIDENTS happen when you split lanes. Study after study shows this. IF one lane is crowded and another lane is moving, and the road congestion is still ok but getting crowded and there are gaps big enough for a car to cut into: WATCH OUT!!! Drivers will cut in first chance they get. In such a situation: split a the lane but do NOT pass the car. Keep the car to your side but a little behind you; enough so the driver sees you, but you can also still quickly accelerate away if you need to. The OTHER driver in the OTHER lane will be focusing their attention on other cars NOT bikes. USE a CAR as a FLAG/protection.

When pulling up to a light: PULL over to almost right on the line…so if some dimwit driver staring at her mirror doesn’t register in her pea brain..that you are there…will be able to swerve and miss you. And CHECK your MIRRORS when stopped at a light for cars coming up behind you…pay attention if you need to run the red light and get away or move over further to the side. Use other cars as a shield.

ALWAYS ALWAYS check your tires and replace them before they get too worn.

IF you can when riding STAY AWAY from groups of cars. Be a LONER. IF you see another biker PAIR UP…drivers are more likely to notice 2 bikers than 1 biker!!!

IF your backend starts to fishtail give the throttle GAS or your back tire is locked up and you are in a skid…if you can come to a stop, if you can’t RELEASE the BRAKE and give the throttle plenty of gas.

Bikes: have a bike that has enough power and torque to get you out of trouble; but NOT too much that you can’t handle. (A Hayabusa in full power mode is unforgiving).

A Sport Bike or a Standard Bike is going to flat out handle better than any cruiser. The foot pegs are more to the rear making it easier for the rider to shift his weight or stand up and see over the traffic or stand up and let the bike pivot under him as he goes over an object.

When riding: have no fear. If you get scared you will react wrong; and reacting wrong will get you killed.

Finally on a bike you are far more likely to die; get paralyzed; lose a limb; be disfigured; in an accident than in a car. Drivers/Cars are NOT your friends: stay away from them.

With a road rager: accelerate way ahead: split lanes and put a bunch of cars between you and the road rager. Normally you want to stay away from groups of cars; but in the case of a road rager out after your ass. A large group of cars are your friends…use them as a shield.

Snow/Ice – don’t ride in the snow. You will hit a patch of ice and go down.

Watch for discoloration on the road surface (Gravel/Oil/Water/Ice) etc.

I get if you’re a bit older and don’t want to ride. I don’t think I’d want to ride a motorcycle if I were older either. But, while I’m still young enough to experience riding a motorcycle, I’ll end up doing it.

So IF you are going to ride: GET THE BEST GEAR YOU CAN GET YOUR HANDS ON and WEAR IT!

I definitely will. I’ll spend my money on the best gear in town and I’ll always wear it when riding. motorcyclists who ride without gear are completely stupid, no matter the situation.

Thanks for the long list of advice on riding. I’ll take it to heart and practice everything on there. I’m always opened to learning how to drive safer, especially if I’m on a motorcycle.
