True, my people are Lutheran, not Catholic, but many still believe in the old customs and Gods.
Right, I was raised Irish Catholic. Some of the Saints like Saint Brigid are based on old Pagan Gods. That was fairly normal for European Conversion. The Old Gods would become Saints and you could still pray to them, but they had a much diminished role under the Christian Hierarchy.
I see you reside in America. Where do you trace your heritage to?

The only traceable parts go back to Ireland on both sides of the family. Cork and Kerry Counties. Also some German on one side, Bavaria I believe it was.

Celtic and Germanic, a strong combination. My mothers father was born and bred in Belfast, my last name(from my Fathers mothers side) is both Scottish and Scandinavian. I am Celtic and Norse, and proud of it!
Alright, so I take it no one ITT so far, except Pistol Pete is celebrating Easter… =/
Back to the original question for new posters ITT:
Celebrating Easter?
If so, what are you doing?
Should I buy a ham?
Get some! Have a footlong roast beef sandwich with fries!~
"I come in Peace. I didn't bring Artillery. But I'm pleading with you with tears in my eyes, if you fuck with me, I'll kill you all." - Gen. Marine Mattis Mad DOG
It’s simple. Easter was a pagan Holiday.
Just STFU and eat your candies! That’s just what my dad would tell me anyways…

Buncha heathens….
I went to 7am Mass. No music, no singing. Bare bones. Works for me. And they passed me a basket full of money.
Win/Win.

Anceintwisdom–you will find its tough to get guys to stay on the topic of your threads, many just like to troll and highjack them. They don’t have the courage or intelligence to start their own threads—its easier for them to f~~~ up yours. Sad I know but there it is.
They lied and said Jesus came back to life on Easter Sunday. It doesn’t make any sense because the actual date of Easter changes year to year.
‘Easter’ originated as a pagan celebration of fertility and spring. That’s why it’s held during the Spring Equinox. And it also explains the tie-in with eggs and bunny rabbits.
My biological ancestry is part Dutch and I’ve been taking a little interest in pagan celebrations. For this winter, I’m planning a traditional and authentic celebration of ‘Yule Tide’. Now I just need to find some poor f~~~er that I can sacrifice on a burning log…

Hehe, my Dad was the same way.

I know, Easter was a pagan Fertility Goddess. The Bunny Rabbit was her symbol. All the old Pagan Holidays are based on Solstice and Equinox dates.

I’m right there with you. “Yule Tide” is the heart of Winter.

‘Yule Tide’ was the pagan festival held at the Winter Solstice. It was the celebration of the days getting longer and to acknowledge the eventual coming of spring. Hence the tie-in with everGREEN trees and Mistletoe.
Some might call us ‘Heathens’ (which is technically accurate and correct) but I prefer the term ‘old school’… 😀

Yes, me too. Ancient traditions should be remembered. I like learning about the stories behind each little detail of the festival too. I guess, I’m old fashioned. I might have to paint some Easter Eggs today. I’m feeling up for it.

Quite accurate.
Glad you stayed on topic.
I hope you’re enjoying your Easter.
Did you go to church/brunch or what you doing?

I’m heading over to my family’s house this afternoon. I’m not really religious anymore so the traditions and spiritual connotations are lost on me. My folks go to mass and that is their choice, I’m just happy to spend some time with my elderly mom and pop. We are going out to dinner and my mom still gets me a chocolate Easter bunny which is fine by me.
I hope you’re enjoying your Easter.
Actually, I celebrated by making a three-cheese, four egg omelette for breakfast this morning along with 6 sticks of maple sausages and one Labatt Blue!
I couldn’t even finish the breakfast so the dog got his special treat too (minus the Labatt Blue of course)! Malamutes are real miserable f~~~ers when they get a little p~~~ed… 🙁

It’s funny, they’re showing ANY God related film on tv today.
That Jim Carrey Evan Almighty film.
Mel Brooks History of the World…Had never seen it. Listening to it in the background as we speak. Somewhat funny.

Well the dog really loved his breakfast. Just don’t tell PETA on me. I think feeding a dog a left-over three cheese omelette with maple sausages is against the law or something…
