Not exactly. WordPress is the underlying CMS (content management system). It was actually an additional security measure which was saying “force strong passwords” OVER AND ABOVE the member features which was saying the same thing.

The security feature (at the root level) was overriding the reset module… so even if you reset and selected a strong password, the security feature was saying “oh no you don’t. Try again.”. And so on.

No. Because the solution made sense when we finally identified it. A hack attempt is something else. We know it wasn’t malicious, because other websites out there experienced exactly the same thing in recent weeks.

It is. Just confirmed the PM option is available ( to all those with the capability ) under the “MESSAGES” tab on your profile.

For example, I just conducted a test conversation ( between me and Manipulated Man ) and he can see the conversation. I performed an admin override and logged in as him ( to test reply to me ) to verify it’s all working. You can also visit my profile and see a “MESSAGE” button to initiate a chat. I have test logged in as you to verify this.

So we know private messages is working great.

But please keep in mind — our new enhanced privacy settings allow someone to say “Nobody can private message me”. , so if you visit a profile and DO NOT see a “MESSAGE” button to contact them, it either means

1. They don’t want you to
2. They don’t have PM capability.

Now one thing remains….

We are currently working on “roles”. Blade (for example) said he can’t initiate PMs. Maybe he’s not that level, or whatever , but I need to investigate why. Private messaging is all good. Now we just need to make sure the correct roles can private message. More later.
