I’ve gone through this myself, and I’ve never agreed with the social norm that “family always comes first”. If your family s~~~s on you, then there is no reason to keep going out of your way to help them or even make them a part of your life.

There is no reason why I should be expected to choose a family member who treats me like s~~~ over a loyal friend. My loyalty lies with those who are loyal to me.

I was bound to be misunderstood, and I laugh at those who misunderstand me. Kind mockery at the well intentioned, but unfettered cruelty towards those would be prison guards of my creative possibilities.
