My youngest niece (18) had a right lung lobectomy yesterday and is recovering. Still has a chest tube in and is not sleeping, but is not in SICU which is a good thing. May be released on Friday, but it is iffy at the moment.
It took eight months of bungling by the MD’s to determine that they did not know what was causing the infection and by that time surgery was the only option. Her upper lobe was beyond salvaging, serving as a cavity for infection and there might be some lingering cardiac damage as well. They removed the upper and a portion of the middle lobe. We will have to wait and see for the moment.
Hell of a thing for someone who was running sub 17 minute 5K’s.
Would appreciate everyone keeping her and the family in their thoughts and prayers. Thanks in advance

Good Luck to your family and especially your niece. I will be hoping for the best outcome.

My prayers are for her safe recovery.
Thanks Pete. She is my niece I may give your Remington .22 to, depends upon how she recovers and if she still goes hunting. Will keep you in the loop.

Thanks so much, thoughts and prayers remain the unknown quotient in medical care. May post some thoughts on this in a few weeks and will be interested in learning the views of our Medical Community members.

All my best to your niece. She sounds like the type that will recover from this.
I don't hate women. I just feel better when they're not around.
Hoping she gets well soon and is running those 5Ks again!
Prayers on the way.

Absolutely, but she has a strong will and has registered for a 5K in December. Thank you

Thank you so much. She certainly takes after her Uncle and Grandfather, stubbornness is a trait we both are known for.

Thank you TS. This is certainly everyone’s goal and hopefully her recovery will start advancing. She is surrounded by world class surgeons and medical teaching faculty so this will not be an issue again.

Thank you so much ECP, getting her home is the first big hurdle. Everything else can wait on the back burner until the appropriate time.
