Just recently I’ve noticed topics that could be used to portray us as a group of heavily armed, Neo Nazi, women hateing nut jobs.

I don’t feel comfortable with this line of questioning.

    Just my 2 cents

I’m thinking about getting a Ruger .44 Mag Revolver.

Your thoughts and experience with them?

I had a Ruger Super Red Hawk with a scope that could hit a knats ads at 100 yards all day long. Great gun!
That said my favorite all around caliber is 9mm. It’s light, versatile, and lethal.
I’ve read all kinds of ballistic reports, coroner’s reports etc.. I believe the 9 gets a bum wrap because most gang bangers are the ones doing the shooting in these reports. They are not great shots and they tend to use the cheapest ball ammo they can find.
With good hollow points I will feel just as secure as I would with a .40 or. 45.
All that said my every day carry gun is a Taurus TCP. 380. It’s tiny and I can throw it in my pocket and it disappears. I would rather carry a. 22 than nothing.

My current three pistol calibers are 9 mm, 22 Long rifle, and a 380. The 9 mm is my home defense weapon, the 22 is for the range and the 380 is my concealed carry piece. I’m really fortunate to live in a state and a country that is still second amendment. Although it’s a battle to keep it.

It’s a very powerful revolver with fantastic knockdown power. With pistols you pretty much have to look at what you want it for. For instance a woman can shoot that weapon but she would probably be better off with a lesser caliber and less recoil. I would get that pistol for bear country and if you’re in the woods a lot. It would also be good for a hunting pistol. For home defense it may be a little big and bulky and not hold as many rounds as a semi auto. My Smith & Wesson 9 mm holds 15 rounds and it is small and easy to handle. Perfect for home defense. My 380 is so tiny and lightweight I can carry it in my pocket and it won’t even be noticed. So you just pretty much have to look at what your needs are for what type of pistols you get

Mind you, in Canada all pistols are restricted firearms.
Owning one (all restricted firearms) allows all “law enforcement” agencies to legally enter your home without warrant to ensure you are storing them in accordance with the law.

That really sucks about Canada. They are one step closer to banning them completely. Here in the states they’re always trying little laws and most of them are unconstitutional. We’ve come to realize that you cannot give an inch because they are slowly taking away your rights to bear arms.

    It shoots like a kitten??

    I like knives.

Speaking of knives, I recently got a Glock knife. They are awesome. The plastic is the same polymer stuff that the Glock handguns are made of. The blade is spring steel and will take a direct shot from a 9mm, I believe, and not bend. For $39, you can’t beat the quality and utility of the Glock knife. It even has a hidden compartment and a bottle opener.

I like the Sig P226 chambered with 9mm. I know, I know, the 9 won’t kill anything, but I can shoot it a lot better than I can shoot a .45 or .357.

Big n fun, but your second shot is compromised by the recoil. Hunting boar or in bear country it is a good choice. However as a defensive weapon against ppl I would choose a smaller caliber and use hollow points or talons; they won’t pass through and possibly hit an innocent. If you’re not reloading and using stock ammo your hand will be sore pretty fast. I had a Desert Eagle .44 mag and a Ruger Black Hawk .357. After a few rounds I was done shooting, even with a leather glove. My carry weapon is a bursa thunder .380. The cons are only 8 rounds of ammo and bit light on the caliber, but it shoots very straight, fits my hand, and has the types of safeties I like. I also carry a SW .40. It has no safety, but the 9 pound pull and long travel make it hard to accidentally discharge. Of course that effects accuracy, but you have to practice on a regular basis with any gun you choose as your carry weapon. .38, 9mm, .40, and .45 are your best calibers for carry because they are a heavy enough caliber and can double stack in the magazine for extra ammo. The the best gun is the one that fits your hand!! So try before you buy. The gun chooses the person, not the other way around. The one you think is the coolest is rarely the best choice for defense, it’s just the funnest one to shoot.

Been shooting for years and was overseas as a medic in the Army. I carried 9mm concealed, a G19, when I got out, because in modern hollowpoints, there is a negligible difference in effectiveness between calibers. Also, velocity matters much more than mass, as the common equation everyone wants to quote is F=MA, where force is mass times acceleration, but the actual equation to use is kinetic energy=(1/2)M times the velocity squared. That’s why rifle rounds are so devastating despite having around the same mass as pistol rounds(122grain 7.62×39 AK rounds having about 6x the power of a .45ACP, for example).

The .45 thing has merit, if you are stuck with only using ball ammo, but there is no reason to use ball in a defensive pistol, other than the case of some .380s, but ammo nowadays made for them is a lot better due to their massive increase in popularity for CCW. I personally carried a Ruger LCP for a couple years at a gas station I worked at, which was ideal for what the gun was designed for(emptying the magazine into a crackhead from across the counter).

Thing to remember with pistols is there is no magic bullet. I expect to use multiple rounds to stop someone with a handgun, and that is with good ammo and good hits. My usage of a sidearm wouldn’t change based on calibers. This is for standard defensive calibers of course, not stuff like .44 mag, ect.

I tend to view weapons purely as tools, so I choose something with higher capacity, lower recoil, lighter weight, considerations like that.
