I used to LOVE watching anime, but they’re just too gynocentric for me now. Today, I can’t say I like any of them for this reason.

No wonder Japan is an ageing country.

I’ve watched a lot over the years and very much prefer this stuff to modern Western junk.

Although I will say anime is getting more mainstream now and it’s harder to find good ones. Still, there’s usually something worth watching at least every other season, at least something decent every season really with some seasons having several things to watch.

For those of you who haven’t seen it and have a few anime series under your belt, please consider watching Legend of Galactic Heroes. It is 113 episodes long if I remember correctly, and has the side effect of making anime watching end for a while (because nothing can live up to it), but it is a rewarding experience. If you’re not used to older anime art styles, then that will take a while to get used to, but that’s it. Are you tired of anime cliches? Watch LoGH! Want a thought provoking series with the occasional feels? Watch LoGH! Like complex stories that span over a long time period that arnt predictable? WATCH LoGH!!!

Date A Live for Fan Service, Realism and good characters. Its a story of a white night, a rapist, a bitch and a damsel in distress.

Hellsing Ultimate for pure bad ass and the fact it rapes twilight to death. Its a story of a matriarch, a super powerful beast from hell and his servant.

This is true. A lot of the stuff that comes out now is that moe s~~~ that panders to every possible fetish possible, but there always seems to be at least one current anime that is decent. Psycho Pass is the recent one I remember caring for.

    Lupin III.
It has 3 seasons. The first one is shorter and more dark. The second one is the best IMO.
It’s not overly serious but has main characters that are extremes of:
    White Knight
    Mangina
    MGTOW
    Cunning Bitch

Plus there are a dozen or so movies and some of them are really good.

The answer is NO. “I could but I won’t”. Memini murum!

Since I forgot a ton, might as well add a few more.

    Sword of the Stranger
Nausicaa, of the Valley of the Wind (got the books).
    Garden of Sinners
    Princess Mononoke
    Howl’s Moving Castle.
    Akira (read the books too!)
Daily lives of High School boys.
    12 Kingdoms
Hajimi no Ippo – Takamura is boss.
    Gundam 00
Bakuman (if only it didn’t attempt to include romance crap)

Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D, Devil Man, Ping Pong Club, Fist of the North Star, to name a few.

Damn. Chaos, you are an old school anime fan. And I mean that as a compliment.

Since you like the series you listed, you might want to check out the post a listed on this page. You will likely find some of those series to be entertaining.

Also, have you seen the Bubblegum Crisis OAVs? Not the remake, but the original OVAs? That series had mass-produced kill robots that made terminators look like pussies in comparison too.

Yeah I started watching at the end of the 80’s. Voltron and Transformers of course. If I watched Bubblegum Crisis it was a long time ago and I don’t remember much of it.

YuYu Hakusho and DBZ are a couple other series I watched back in the day. I watched the Berserk TV series but it pales in comparison to the Manga. The new Berserk movies are 10 times worse. Then you have Wicked City, Demon City Shinjuku, Akira, Galaxy Express 999, Record of Lodoss War, Black Jack, Dominion Tank Police, Crying Freeman, Bastard, etc., etc.,

Sort of lost interest in anime over time.

The Children of Doom... Doom's Children. They told my lord the way to the Mountain of Power. They told him to throw down his sword and return to the Earth... Ha! Time enough for the Earth in the grave.

Same here. I remember seeing the original Transformers three part pilot way back in 1984. The Bubblegum Crisis OVAs is an late 80’s anime about basically a cyberpunk series with chicks in power armor, but done in a good way.

Very interesting topic guys, I’m going to have a look to some of the titles you wrote.

During my childhood/adolescence I liked in particular these series:

    1) Future boy Conan: I loved the series in my childhood and today I still appreciate it because it is free of feminist or politically correct bulls~~~s. The love between Conan and Lana is touching, he wants to keep her safe, a male instinct (ah, the good times when this was a positive quality and it wasn’t belittled), and she’s brave but not a nagging bitch.
    2) The secret of blue water: The whole story was intriguing.. How the f~~~ the Japanese can pull out UFOs and Atlantean relics from Verne’s 20.000 leagues under the sea it’s a mystery for me.. but that’s why I love them 🙂
    3) Last Exile: I always loved flight and this series gave me the final push to actually learn flying
    4) Cowboy Bebop

    About anime movies:

    1) Children who chase lost voices: a very particular movie, quite spiritual for an anime
    2) Akira: simply a masterpiece (apart the giant baby thing: WTF?)
    3) Steamboy
    4) Metropolis

    19. Azumanga Daioh (If you made it this far, try it)

Actually it’s a funny series! Osaka is my favourite

Not that I’m against any culture in particular, but f~~~ all that mindless modern Bushido Japanese s~~~.
I still prefer westernised stuff like Sponge Bob or Tom and Jerry.
F~~~ing South Park is 10 time funnier and more intelligently put together than any anime could ever be.

You are just looking for a fight, right?

A question was asked and I answered and gave opinion.
    Did I say “don’t watch anime because I don’t like it ? . . . . . no I did not.
    Should we fight ?
Ok, as long as its not over cartoons.
    Cheers.

Yes, a question was asked, “what is your favorite anime?” Saying anime is s~~~ and comparing it to lame cartoons is just plain provacitive. That’s all I was getting at.

South Park is a great show. America has a rich history of quality animation.

F~~~ing South Park is 10 time funnier and more intelligently put together than any anime could ever be.

I put up a list on page one with many shows that are better than South Park. Matt and Trey would probably agree on that.

Exactly. Plus many of the shows we listed are the intellectual type. They arnt for laughs, they are for provoking thought. As much as I don’t like gainax or akira I would never say they wernt “intelligently put together” The artist put way to much damn time into the animations. To compare that to south park is just plain insulting to the artist.
