Anonymous1Yup, a cobbled together mess that you and your ancestors did their best to steal from the Jewish people. Mostly because you have no history to be proud of.
No, that is incredibly dismissive of the Ancient Celtic peoples. Ever hear of Stone Henge? Many other Stone Circles used for calculating Astronomical events. The Druids were great Scientists of the ancient world.
My ancestors didn’t steal from the Jewish People they were forced to convert to Christianity by the Roman Empire. Blame the Romans for stealing your heritage, but the Celts had nothing to do with it.
Anonymous1Why don’t you show us the vast ruins your illiterate ancestors left us instead? Perhaps because your ancestors were busy running naked in the forests of boreal Europe back when my ancestors were writing the Bible?
You are just spreading misinformation. The Druids were not illiterate. They were quite well educated and wrote in Ancient Greek letters. They also had their sacred runes “Ogham.”
The reason they did not write down their teachings was because they took a vow of secrecy not to write anything down.
You had to be an apprentice and learn the curriculum “orally” and never write it down under penalty of death.
Propagandists use this fact to denounce the ancient Celts as “illiterate.” Nothing could be further from the truth.

Stonehenge was not built by the Celts, most of the Megalithic structures in Europe (Newgrange, Carnac, etc) were built by the descendants of the farmers who came from Anatolia during the Neolithic. These people were genetically closer to Sardinians (who are almost entirely descended from Europe’s Neolithic inhabitants), Spaniards, Italians or Bulgarians than to present-day Northern Europeans. During the 2nd half of the 3rd millennium BCE these people were replaced by the Bell Beakers (with a whopping replacement rate of +90% of the population), early Indo-European speakers who account for most of the ancestry of present-day Northwestern Europeans.
The Bell Beakers reused these structures as burial sites (the invasive nature of this population is easy to tell because their burials are typically Indo-European and closely resemble burial practices on the Pontic-Caspian steppe). They did not build these structures, the people they replaced did. Furthermore the Anatolia_Neolithic-type ancestry they harboured was of Central European origin, in other words they did not absorb the descendants of the folks who built Stonehenge.
A slew of ancient genomic papers have been published on this subject the last two years.

How am I spreading misinformation? It is a well known fact that the Celts went to battle naked for example.
Ogham is a fairly recent writing system that was devised during the 4th century CE. It was used to write Primitive Irish and wasn’t used outside the British Isles. So most of the Celts indeed were illiterate. The oldest Celtic inscriptions are the Lepontic ones, they are written in a form of Etruscan and date back 2,600 yBP. The oldest Hebrew inscriptions (Khirbet Qeiyafa inscription, Zayit stone, Gezer calendar, etc) in comparison usually happen to be 3,000 years old, we can push this to 3,300 yBP if we assume that the “Canaanisms” in the Amarna letters are a form of Proto-Hebrew. Furthermore these ancient Hebrew inscriptions (and most of the other Canaanite ones) can be understood by your average Israeli thanks to Hebrew’s moribund state during the 1,800 years preceding Ben Yehudah’s revival, the same cannot be said for present-day Celtic speakers with the Lepontic or even the Oghamic inscriptions.
So the Celts truly were illiterate during most of their history, and that includes the Druids. This is why Celtic mythology is virtually unknown to us, we know the name of their gods and not much else. Irish mythology was written down by monks who went to great lengths to Christianise the mythological cycles and make them fit in a Biblical context (we have no idea what the Celtic creation myth was for example).
