Amazing we haven’t had a major plague, think we are due for one, the gov will probably use the nukes to “cleanse” the areas infected by the infections, so we get both.

I would think there is no need to worry of you are in a city as the end will be quick. If you are not it will be prolonged and painful. I doubt prepping will be of use on a nuclear winter.

The nuclear winter scenario where the radioactive pollutants diffuse worldwide along with particles from the explosions . A heat barrier forms in the upper atmosphere and temperatures drop. Either will kill us.

Anything living after that will have little resemblance to humans after a few generations warming in radioactive dust.

Seriously, if you are in a major city, you really should move away if you want to live through it.
Not everyone will want to live through what comes after a widespread nuke attack.

For those outside of the cities, who survive the radiation for the first week or two, gathering food and supplies, as well as getting information and allies is going to be important.

I live upwind from a strategic Air Force Base, that might or might not get hit. Otherwise, it’s a pretty remote area.

I plan to button up at home and wait a week or two then get to know what’s left of my neighbors.

Never share prep or tactical information with friends or neighbors unless you know they will be trustworthy in a situation like this.

They will reveal who they really are when their family is starving.

Direct attacks on population centers are pretty much the last of the last resorts in playbooks of the day. Strategic forces of nations capable of waging nuclear war divide their targets into two categories: Counter-value & Counter-force.

Counter-value = Population centers, industrial centers & anything that provides a target nation with added value
Counter-force = Military targets, strategic weapons emplacements & force projection capabilities

Even in the event of a full blown World War III scenario, no-one will be targeting cities first. Initial strikes will target missile silos, airfields, ports, early-warning installations and so forth. Cities are the last targets anyone wants to hit, after that all bets are off. Riding out a counter-force strike is plausible, a nation just needs to surrender and most of the population will survive. If it comes down to counter-value strikes, then we all just can run to the hills and start taking lessons from the Fallout games. It wont be the end of human civilization, but it will end all nations of any significance within a day.
