Not to use anecdotal evidence, but my Political Science professor, the best teacher I EVER had, was quite young and completely bald. I think it’s a cool idea, but I’ve never done it myself (I usually have an afro).

, I think close crop (stubble) can be just as good.

Get a decent crew cut and then decide if you want to shave. Both simplify the issue of taking cleaning and leaving some hair will at least let you see what your thining hair will look like. If you don’t like it, shave it. It usually took me 1.5 months to go from zero blade-no guard back to having stubble.

But as stated, it’s you choice. Don’t give a f~~~ and take control over their curiosity.

3-5mm first(1/5 inch?) to test your environment (work image!! HR bitches!)
if tests and interactions are okay, shave bald.

Shaving always looks stupid to me on white guys, when I do mine I go with a #1 or #2, I would never go for the shaved b~~~~ack look. Be a man about it and be ok with it showing whatever hairline you have as shaving it to the bone fools nobody. Also shaving it bare is too much maintenance, f~~~ that. Just do a 1 or 2, simple, easy, and quick.

I’m not balding but have shaved my head since I was 16. I have the opposite problem, my hair is too damn thick.

I do it because it’s just easier and much cheaper than having to go to a barber every few weeks.

3-4 times per year I hear:

“But you have such a beautiful head of hair. If you grew it out, the ladies would be all over you!”

I think every man should shave his head bald at least once. Especially if concerned about balding etc.
Let you see it is not the end of the world, and you don’t have to do stupid s~~~ like hair plugs and other procedures that scar your head and really don’t look good anyway.

Now it is going to look funny to you at first. It takes a week or so for you to get used to seeing yourself that way. So don’t make any snap judgements.
Hopefully your head is not all lumpy or lightbulb shaped, as you will never look good bald.
You also need a few days of being exposed to the sun for the skin tone to match.

You can grow it out again after a few weeks if you feel like it, but at least now you know it isn’t a big deal if you do go bald.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes when you do it.

Shaved my head once. Everyone you meet thinks you are in the military or have cancer. Ha!

Had a buddy in the same situation. Young and suffering hair loss. He shaved his head and all of a sudden people thought he was a skin head. WTF? I know.

Τhat’s my biggest fear, I don’t want people to think I’m a nazi or have cancer! 🙁

Side note: What most people don’t understand is that the majority of skinheads aren’t nazis and aren’t racist. I used to be a part of the music scene and had friends that were in Oi/street punk bands that were skinheads and there were quite a few black and mexican skinheads in the scene too. These people are considered to be “traditional skinheads” and model themselves after the first skinheads from the 60s in England who were an offshoot from the Mods. The original skinheads listened to Ska (early reggae music) and Soul Music and also copied some of the styles of Jamaican immigrants and West Indian immigrants. Some of the original skinheads were black and pakistani. Neo nazi skinheads aren’t considered to be real skinheads by many in that scene and are referred to as “boneheads”.

Anyway, thought you guys might find that information interesting.

Hair getting thin at 17 when I joined the Marines many years ago, and it’s been gone ever since. Here is what I know: I shaved it a couple of times but it gets to be a pain in the ass to repeat. So, I use clippers at their shortest setting (maybe 1/8″) and i’m good to go for a week. Takes 5 minutes and always looks the same. You have to stay on top of shaving your head, much like your face. And like I said, for ME shaving is a pain in the ass.

If you’re thinking of going completely bald, shave your head consistently for 30 days to see if you can live with it. If you can’t it’s not for you.

PS. You can’t tell from a 1″ cut if you’ll suit the bald look. You need to go all the way.

Thank you for your replies, guys! I do appreciate it. I might trim the hair very thin, and if I like the result I’ll shave it.

I can’t understand why some people still consider balding as “strange”. Men were losing their hair from ancient times. Some ancient Greek philosophers didn’t have hair! It’s understandable that a bald head “stands out” from most people, but it’s something which happens for centuries.
I know women who said that they’d broke up with their boyfriends if they ever start balding. What’s that? That’s not love, it’s like an egoistic behavior. Jesus!

    Do it! Be a Badass!

Awesome! The moment when he said “f~~~face” was hillarious! 🙂

I started losing my hair in my mid 20’s. Went skin and never looked back. May raise a few eyebrows for some reason. Will certainly get higher percentage of women away since baldness has been labelled a killer of interests hah!

If you’re hesitant, why not settle for a clip 1 or clip 0 shave at least? Shorter than a bootcamp shave but longer than a complete skin.

If you’re worried about sporting a babyface, you can use that same clip shave on your face when you start to sprout a beard and get a decent stubble look going.

Unless you’re starting to age into your 40’s, I really won’t recommend any kind of saving graces like combovers and s~~~.

I have a beard so I won’t look like a “baby” or somthing.

I don’t think you will look like a “baby” if you shave your head and grow your beard.

In my opinion, bald–bearded men look like…MEN.

I was tired of paying over $25 for haircuts so I did the next thing to shaving my head. I spent that same one time $25 on a little decent quality hair trimmer

That is what I did…bare metal it once a week and good to go. By the time your clippers get crappy and need to be replaced you are probably down to less than a quarter a haircut lol. I just wear a hat most of the time anyhow so really wtf is the point of growing my hair out and paying for nice haircuts? I’ve razored it before but its just too much effort to bother, bare metal on clippers gets it close enough.

I think you should at least try it. I have a full head of hair at 64 yo. but it is thinning. I shaved my head and didn’t give a s~~~ what other people thought. My head was cooler and itched less. I seem to have a dry scalp condition and shaving my head helped. As C-Pig said ” your hair will grow back”. So live a little and try it.

So, time has come. Tomorrow is the big day. I’m going to cut my hair as short as I can with clippers, and if I like the result I’ll shave it. Let’s see…

Alright guys, I’m sorry for keep posting about it. I know that no one cares what a random dude will do with his hair, but I don’t have anyone else to talk about it.

So, it happened! I didn’t shave, but I cut my hair so short, it feels almost touching the skin! It’s too early to say I like it, but you know we all don’t like any change. The only things I need now are to go out in the sun (my head is too white due to the hair) and to lose some weight. 🙂

I don’t suffer hair loss and I still did it couple of times.
Refreshing, badass. Do it. Glad you did, why not try it out right ?

Or if you experiment by cutting your hair yourself (not paying 10-15$ to a professional, instead I have my own hair cutting machine for 30$, for 5 years now), its always a nice Plan B to fall down to, in case you ruin your hairstyle 🙂

So yeh, going clean shaved egg head/jarhead is always an option. Get some good sun shades (with UV protection) and don’t give a f~~~. The list goes on:
