Hello everybody! I usually don’t like creating threads about myself, so I apologize for that. But I would like some opinions and thoughts regarding this. I am thinking for the first time ever, to shave my head. I am balding, unfortunately, for quite some time now. It’s not a nice thing to be losing hair when you’re young (I’m 24). So, I kind of thought “Why not shaving my head”? I’m between shaving or trimming.

I don’t ask you to tell me if it will suit me – you don’t know how I look, of course. I just want from the guys who’ve done that, to tell me if you liked it after you saw yourselves in the mirror, if you regreted it or not, how your family/friends reacted to your new look etc.

I think of it as a major change, but I guess I shouldn’t, plus I have a beard so I won’t look like a “baby” or somthing. 🙂 I would appreciate your opinion!

Had a buddy in the same situation. Young and suffering hair loss. He shaved his head and all of a sudden people thought he was a skin head. WTF? I know.

It did not matter to him because it was easy to do and keep up on. I say go for it.

Shave it at least once in your life. It will grow back if you don’t like it. I’ve been called prisoner.

It’ll free up time for more productive pursuits. I’m in my long hair phase at 3/4″ up top.

Did the same thing, myself [knowing that I would eventually be bald from heredity]. P~~~ed a GF off, which was a bonus. Discovered I don’t have any weird horns or ridges on my coconut and I look pretty good bald. Been doing it for the last 15+ years. I think it looks better than the comb over or the monk look. I don’t give a federal f~~~ what women think of it.

Like C-Pig said, If you don’t like it, grow it back.

I was going bald from the age of about 16 so I have shaved it off ever since. Doesn’t suit everyone but it is low maintenance so well worth it

I was tired of paying over $25 for haircuts so I did the next thing to shaving my head. I spent that same one time $25 on a little decent quality hair trimmer set in a zipper travel case and now I put on the half-inch or shorter attachment and just go over everything .. it does a decent job and then I put on smaller attachment and go over seams and edges .. back of neck and over ears and it gives it a quarter inch taper. Entire haircut takes about three minutes or less and the money I save over time will be used for stacking a little xtra silver. Have great day.

Shaved my head once. Everyone you meet thinks you are in the military or have cancer. Ha!

I found it interesting how much it impacted the reactions of other people. Its like the difference of wearing a T-shirt and jeans, or a suit and tie. People have strong ideas about a shaved head meaning something.

Also, as it starts to grow back, the stubble acts like velcro. It really holds a hat in place well.

Try it! If you don’t like it. It will grow back shortly.

what do you mean by shave? bald bald or just super close cropped.

Guess it depends but, I think close crop (stubble) can be just as good. Also, easier without dealing with the risk of razor knicks and stuff. Probably depends on the individual.

Thankfully I dont have an hair loss issue (knock on wood). If I shaved my head, I’d probably look like a cancer patient, especially until my head actually tanned a normal color.

No guard is how I do it. Using a razor is too much work for me.

I’ve been going shaven head for the past 22 years. I would never go back either.

You are doing this for you. What other people think of you is none of your business, so who cares? It is whatever works best for you.

low maintenance so well worth it

    This is a good point.

I shave my head all the time for the past few years. I trim all my hair off with an electric clipper and use an electric shaver to leave a smooth fine finish. I am not balding nor do I have grey hair nor do I have cancer. You need to learn to NOT GIVE A F~~~ what others think. I am 33 years old btw.

Another popular style choice with the shaved head is to grow out a short beard or stubble beard to draw the focus lower and also tells people you don’t have cancer because you still have hair on your face 😉 .

I shaved my head in my early 30’s for a bit. I loved it. I didn’t have any repercussions, assumptions of being a skinhead, etc. Super low maintenance.

Beware of summer sun/sun burn and take care of yourself.

If you pull the trigger, I recommend that you try going real short with a short guard first so you can see what you look like, you might like some stubble or You might discover something your hair hid and change your mind.

The only reason I grew my hair back is because I’m thinning but not balding enough, and kind of enjoy my hair so for now. I have hair but in the next few years will go back to fully shaved.

    Best of luck!

i used to shave my head, saved me from having to style it before work. Also if you don’t want it completely bald, just get some Wahl hair clippers, use no attachment and carefully go over it all, i used to let facial hair get stubby for several days at a time, created a nice look with it.
