The US is known for hyping itself while sneering at competition. Based on everything I’ve read and studied about the F-35, my hunch is that it’s probably good at a few niche roles as long as the American empire continues its current trend of bombing third-world nations. It would probably outmatch anything North Korea throws at it.

That said, I have serious doubts about the F-35’s abilities against a capable opponent, such as the current production Russian Su-30SM/35S variants, paired with the S-400/500 defense systems. Those represent a much more capable threat. It’s simply unrealistic to think that the US could enter into a slugfest against a determined foe like that, with layered ground and air defenses, and come away without a scratch. In an era where even a single American fighter plane getting shot at is considered newsworthy, I think the American public, legislators, lobbyists, and politicians would all s~~~ their pants if six or seven F-35s were shot down, even if they shot down the same number of Su-35s.

Summary: I don’t think the F-35 gives western air forces any real edge over capable opponents like Russia and China in a deep theatre conflict.

I also hope that such a conflict never happens. I hate the aggressive stance America has taken against Russia these days.

I think it is Old Bill who has pointed out the fact that if the North Koreans even get a sniff of something happening they will level Seoul.

I can’t see anything happening although I saw this today

weren’t the reasons for Iraq and Libya that they were about to ditch the Petrodollar? If so then something will happen over there soon to stop this no doubt

I think that’s an empty threat on the part of the North Koreans. They wouldn’t be so foolish and I don’t think they could actually do it either. It’s not so easy as it seems.

South Korea can defend Seoul as they have been preparing for such an attack for almost half a century now.

    Yes.

    Especially in Libya.

they would do it if they could – these guys are crazy dictators and if they are guaranteed to be killed then they will go scorched Earth and destroy what they can

I’m not a tactical jet pilot but my old man worked on a lot of them in th Marine Corps. If the generators get taken out in our new planes they are screwed and have to eject. You can’t fly without a computer. The old stuff would and will which is why the A 10 is so reliable. It’s a shame. That pos f35 is a mistake to throw all our eggs in one basket.

Things are looking good. Looks like we are making damn sure we’re ready incase DPRK tries anything during President Trump’s visit to ROK in November.

The F35 is a really weird plane, it doesn’t fly well and it doesn’t have much firepower potential however it is stealthy and it is supposed to be designed with networked oriented combat in mind. The above is simple, take all of the military’s sensors and network them so each and everyone sees the big picture instantly, theoretically speaking the F-35 will be an invisible weapons platform that will be using targeting information from the established network in order to fire its weapons without having to enter into a dog fight.

However the above is entirely theoretical and a technologically advanced opponent has plenty of ways of countering everything. Personally I think that the F-35 has key advantages and disadvantaged; its avionics and onboard electronics are the best but it’s a flying brick with small teeth. If its stealth capabilities are nullified somehow then its a slow flying bullseye.
