Just a few months shy of our 20th wedding anniversary…
about 2 months after moving into a 5 bedroom house my wife had to have…
a week after I was struck by a car while I was walking as a pedestrian…
as I entered the house after work on Friday evening of Father’s Day Weekend…
    Wife: “Can we talk?”
    Me: “Sure” and sat down.
Wife: “I’ve been talking to a lawyer…we’re getting a divorce.”
Me: (mouth agape) “I don’t know how to process that.”
TOTALLY out of the blue. There was no previous fighting. There was no previous yelling. There was no abuse, drinking, drugs, cheating, none of that.
Fast forward through lots of documents going back and forth, lawyers and fees, court ordered mediations, court hearings, and roughly 2 years of “discovery” documents, etc…
    The court awarded her:
half of the money in a savings account sourced totally by my military retirement…
half of the money in a checking account sourced 2/3 by me and 1/3 by her…
half of all mutual funds sourced totally by my salary…
    half of my 401k…
half of the proceeds of selling the house, the equity of which was sourced totally by my salary…
half of the savings bonds sourced totally by my salary…
part of my monthly military retirement money FOREVER…
additional spousal support for 10 years…
and I have to pay the monthly premium and designate her to be the beneficiary of my Survivor Benefit Plan FOREVER.
She got to keep the car I paid for from my salary, and the master’s degree I paid for with my salary, in her job as an associate professor.
    What I got:

Welcome Foresaken. I’m sorry to read of the events that introduced you to your divorce and typical rape guys go thru in divorce court. I’m glad you found MGTOW.

I will say my standard response to new guys to MGTOW…..yep, you got hosed………..but you also purchased your freedom.

Right now you have a bitter taste in your mouth.

That’s the taste of the Red pill going down. In a while, it turns sweet.

How can a woman be expected to be happy with a man who insists on treating her as if she were a perfectly normal human being.

Did you ever get a reason?

No, I was not given a reason…”no fault” divorce.
    But to speculate…
I would guess she thought she and the 2 teenage kids could live in the big fancy house, I would move out, she could have half my earnings, I would pay for her to live in the house, and she could pursue what/whom ever. I did not move out…I remained in the MIL suite while she and the 2 teens slept upstairs. After a couple of months, she realized I was not moving out (I read that was the worst move a guy in my spot could do), so upon advice of her lawyer, SHE moved out (of course, with the kids) so that the official separation clock (12 months) could start.
This left me to pay the mortgage, hvac, HOA, water, sewer, gas, lawn maintenance, house upkeep, repair, and listing/selling fees totally myself. As I mentioned, she ultimately put zero into the house, I paid the down payment and the items just mentioned, and the wife got half the sales/equity upon ultimate sale.

    Welcome forsaken,

a lot of us went through that. You can still consider yourself lucky, as far as I understand there are no children involved and your wife is working full-time. It could have ended worse.

Same thing happened to a guy I trained with. He was an ER doc fron Philly. Great guy living in the middle of bum f~~~ Egypt. After getting to know him I asked why he was living in a one bedroom apartment with almost no furniture and a guitar. Same thing, married for decades. Three kids. Big house. Nice cars. He paid her way thru school. She hits middle age, lawyer f~~~s him and Shazam flat broke ER doc working every day for his ex-wife who took everything when he never abused her, cheated on her. You know the story. Sorry for your pain.
And welcome home!!!! Hang in there. It gets better. A lot better as long as you don’t go backwards…

    1 kid 1st year of college…1 kid 11th grade.
I paid the 529 plans totally with my earnings.
Not that all of this came from huge salaries…it came from saving and sacrificing…
…I always bought very used vehicles, changed my own oil, did my own plumbing/electrical/painting, built my own garage, bush-hogged the acres, fixed the well used tractor, etc. etc.
I drive a 2002 Saturn. She drives a much later Lexus.
    Forget all that other stuff…
…by FAR the worst of it all is that I spent my life dreaming of raising kids as well as I thought my dad raised me…he wanted me to be smarter, stronger, and more successful that he…I wanted the same for my kids. He taught me so much. Damn, I would do anything to turn a few more wrenches with him…he passed in 2002.
I text my kids 2x each day. Never a reply.
I offered to take them anywhere they wanted over the past 2 summers and spring breaks and winter breaks…no bites.
I weep about my failure with them…but they were taken away from me for their high school years.
Folks tell me that it’s just because of their age…their life is in the way…and they will come around later…in their 20s. I hope that surely comes.

    I had a 2002 Saturn SC 2
I bought it after I found a tracking device stuck to my car…plastic car, not magnetic.

Most of us were good guys, spending time with kids, working for a better future, and f~~~ed over by “I’m not haaaaapy, I want a divorce.”

Funny…mine is a 2002 SC2, gold, 5 speed, paid $2200 for it, now has 190,000 on the clock, I put a new clutch set in it myself last summer, when I rented a room from another guy whose wife departed.
Tracking device, huh? Damn, that’s rude.
Gotta love the plastic…you never see an old Saturn with dented doors or fenders!

Sell the house for the smallest amount you can get away with to a TRUST. Do NOT send your children to school. They are only learning to hate you. They are of age, so move to a different country with them. Do not tell anyone of this. Just make the plans, get them with you alone, let them know what an absolute horrible person your mother is, and GET OUT, never to return. Just disappear! Tell NO ONE. EVER. Then have the trust sell the house.

Start over, with your children together with you. They are YOUR children – nobody elses. If your wife divorced you, then she divorced the children as well, in my opinion.

    Best of luck.
