Exactly. I would ask her what sort of penance she did for either (A) having sex outside of marriage (B) Getting a divorce, or (C) cheating on your husband. One of the three must apply, or she is only pretending to be Catholic. The best she could really ask for is someone else to pretend to be Catholic.

My family is Catholic, and this sort of thing was actually an issue when my father married my mother. My father had a previous marriage in which he got divorced. Divorced was not really acceptable in the church back then, certainly to the point that the Church would not recognize someone getting remarried after divorce. My parents could not get married in the Church for that reason. It was only after moving several times, and the Church stopped caring, that it stopped being an issue.
