I know we are not all US citizen’s here, but I’d love to know what thoughts are regarding funding for a US Southern Border wall.
Personally, I am for it. It’s not because I think this particular point in history is better or worse for immigration. It’s not because I think a wall will prevent all immigration, trafficking, and other related issues. It’s not because I like or dislike Trump or the Zombies. Immigration has been an unresolved issue for decades, since I was kid and probably longer. Yet politicians have done nothing but give it lip service. I want something done that it is concrete and measurable. I want this to be start of actually fixing the issue with real solutions, which is what Americans want (and politicians on both sides do not want).
I don’t like that the debate is causing a shutdown, but it’s quite clear that leverage as needed. Democrats have stated they will not fund a wall under any circumstances (really, as long as Trump wants it), so there is no reason to believe wall funding will happen after a shutdown is resolved.
The idea that either side is the definitive cause of the shut down is either ignorant or intentionally deceptive. It’s a stalemate. Clearly, either side can end the stalemate by capitulating to the other side.
Ok. Then do it.
Immigration has been an issue. Why reward illegal immigration by just letting them cross the border.

The problem with capitulating, if it’s done by Trump, the funding for the wall will never happen. The childish left need to be the ones to try to get along. Trump said he would like to sit down with them and come to a compromise, but they refuse to even budge an inch due to their Trump hating nonsense. It’s so sickening to watch these adults squabble like spoiled children.
I’m all for strengthening the borders whether it’s by steel, concrete, snipers, or landmines. It wouldn’t take but a very few infiltrators trying to cross a minefield to put a stop to the illegal immigration.

I say end birthright citizenship, require proof of citizenship for work, and penalize any company for hiring illegals a high fine per head, perhaps $30,000 fine for each one they hired.
As financial incentive, give a percentage of the fine to the person who reports it.
Do that, and people with self-deport. No wall needed.

I’m definitely for e-verify, but I don’t know that it would be as completely effective as we’d like. Take a construction job for example. The construction company doesn’t hire illegals, although there are illegals doing the job. Instead the construction company subcontracts the labor out to another company that is much smaller and barely on the radar, that pays the illegal worker a flat rate or day rate instead of daily rate. It’s mixed in with other legal workers, so it’s very hard to even tell that the illegal worker is even employed. Even then, many of them have false papers that employer cannot be expected to judge on whether it’s authentic or not. Not saying e-verify isn’t a good thing, just that it’s not going to cut off all means illegal employment.
I’m fine with a fine to employers, but there needs to be proof that employer did not know the employee was illegal.
I’d also want to put a tax on transferring money out of the US. This is trickier as it should be large enough to deter illegals from doing this, but not corporations who are doing legit business.
It won’t be popular, but I’m also want to limit deportations and have a path to citizenship for those already here. It’s not about concern for their well being, but because illegals have become so integrated into the economy that suddenly removing them is going to have a negative immediate effect. Gradual change is much better.
And yes, we’d still need a wall, nothing of the other changes will stop trafficking. A wall will make that job easier.

I’m an immigrant. 11 years(including 5 green card) and $11k attorney fees later and I’m a citizen. I understand fully why people want to come to the US. But you have to do it legally and wait your f~~~ing turn.

I’m f~~~ing fed up with all immigrants, legal or not, because I’m struggling competing for a job, which the Mexican will likely get over me and that’s not fair. Why should I be out of work and living on disabilities for years, while some brown skin who can’t speak English is working and living well? I hate having to hear that Spanish gibberish they like to loudly converse with. I’m sick of hearing on the phone answering machine (press 1 for English, [gibberish]). I’m sick of foreigners feeling entitled to live on free welfare (money, food, college, healthcare, housing). That money should be for Americans citizens only who are on hard times.
Trump was right last night when he said that immigrants are stealing our jobs and driving down wages while Americans are struggling.
Because of this, I learned to hate non Americans who live and work in America because I’m struggling to get a job. No one who wants to work and make a living for himself should be struggling as hard and as long as I have. Kick the Mexicans (legal or not) out!

I hate how the left always spouts off by saying that this country was built by immigrants. Yeah, they’re right, but it wasn’t built by illegal aliens. The immigrants from decades ago were stopped at the border and had to be checked not only legally, but also medically and they were detained at the border for quite a while, (weeks), before being allowed into the country. I have an old friend who was born in Mexico. He immigrated the right way; the legal way and is now a citizen of the U.S.

I donated to Brian Kolf~~e’s border wall fund as a protest against smug politicians and Hollywood celebrities WHO LIVE IN MANSIONS WITH GATES AND SECURITY GUARDS, but want open borders. If security from the riff raff is good enough for them, it’s good enough for me too. Build the f~~~ing wall. Heck, build one across Canada’s border as well. And don’t tell me we Americans can’t afford it. If we can spend a trillion dollars bombing Iraq—and not find any weapons of mass destruction—we can surely afford to build border walls and hire more border patrol agents. This common in the UK, particularly in food production, both factory and field.
UK employers are required to verify the immigration status of employees, so what they do is hire an agency, which then shifts the legal responsibility onto them.
The government knows that the law is being evaded, but won’t do anything about it because they are in bed with big business.

I remember when the media started saying things like, “We need to figure out the status of illegal aliens”, and I would think to myself, THAT’S THEIR STATUS, ILLEGAL! That’s when I knew this issue would eventually come to a head. I knew this would be a precursor to the collapse of this nation. But this wall funded by taxpayers is a bad idea. It’s not going to work even if they did build it. It’ll be ineffectual and a waste. So if you’re for wasting money, make sure you find it somewhere else! People can tunnel under walls people can climb over walls. People can cut through walls… It’s A STUPID idea.
And that’s not to mention maintainence cost over time… This country has bridges and other INFRASTRUCTURE THAT’S CURRENTLY FAILING!!!

Amen brother. I have literally been in a factory of illegals recently to do some technical work (ALL illegals were subcontracted). They were the most hard-working blue-collar workers I’d ever seen. They didn’t call in sick, come in drunk or on drugs, or f~~~ off with dumbphones all day. Unlike most of our citizens of the same age. Most had been there a decade or longer.
Sure, they did not have the formal education I enjoyed; but their work ethic is UNBELIEVABLE. I couldn’t even speak with most of them — the foreman had understandable english and communicated with the others — I don’t know Spanish unfortunately. Incidentally, the ILLEGAL immigrants have THE HIGHEST employment participation rate, it’s around 85%!!
They sure as hell weren’t ‘stealing’ any jobs. How does one ‘steal’ a job, anyway?
There were few locals that wanted to work in the hot, humid, dirty factory, that wasn’t air conditioned. The reality on the ground is these people are doing jobs AMERICANS DON’T WANT TO DO.
US immigration policy is built on racism; quotas for various nationalities. I think we should limit TOTAL numbers — we can only absorb so many at once — but keep in mind, jobs are NOT a zero sum game. These immigrants consume housing, food, etc — that creates DEMAND and creates other jobs. And they create entire INDUSTRIES; look at all the tech. firms founded by immigrants, mostly from Russia, Europe, China, etc. We are shooting ourselves in the foot especially, by not offering automatic citizenship to Chinese and other foreign nationals who graduate in STEM fields from US universities. Why not HOST the innovation here?
Just as the US economy grew through massive immigration in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s — economics is not a ‘zero sum game’ with a fixed number of jobs. Illegals are eligible for NO welfare benefits. Even LEGAL immigrants are ineligible for most welfare for their first 5 years.
As for ‘security’, look up the murder rate in some cities in Texas — go ahead — compare them to Baltimore or cities with gang problems…

This line about “doing jobs Americans don’t want to do” is television brainwashing bulls~~~. The government takes all the young adults and keeps them in school for a quarter of their lifetime. Teens should be working in odd jobs and greeting people at Walmart. But they are in school, and the government then has illegals fill the gap and says “Americans don’t want to do those jobs”. Yes, Mexicans are stealing our jobs because of the currency different. They earn currency here, and send it back home where it purchases more goods in a s~~~hole country. So effectively, yet they are stealing your purchasing power, but you have to understand how currency exchanges and money works to understand the concept. But yes, they are most certainly stealing our money.
Absolutely nothing you say is correct or makes sense. Give automatic citizenship to Chicoms? Dude, you must have no experience at all in the real world. I doubt you have every been to another country or taken a real history course.
