It is the men who get drafted. The women stay home and play the victim (yes, Hillary, I’m thinking of you). So why, I ask, is the draft being sold as a good idea?

Most Americans were happy about the end of the draft, but in 1999 the historian Stephen Ambrose wrote: “Today, Cajuns from the Gulf Coast have never met a black person from Chicago. Kids from the ghetto don’t know a middle-class white. Mexican-Americans have no contact with Jews. Muslim Americans have few Christian acquaintances … But during World War II and the Cold War, American [men] from every group got together in the service, having a common goal — to defend their country … They learned together, pledged allegiance together, sweated together, hated their drill sergeants together, got drunk together, went overseas together. What they had in common — patriotism, a language, a past they could emphasize and venerate — mattered far more than what divided them.”

Actually, I think I know the answer, but I am also way too fond of conspiracy theories, so I’ll leave it up to each individual man to puzzle it out. Hint: Take the interplay between national and world politics into account.

I do enjoy the absolute and total mishmash of self-contradictory, incoherent feminist garbage that is liberal (and much of conservative) ‘thought’.

So the writer is basically admitting that we can’t, in fact, overcome the innate in-group prefernce that all primates exhibit, unless we force people at gunpoint to interact. Except that doesn’t really work either, as military, prison, educational (ha ha! same thing!) and other groups generally segregate by race and religion.

I assume, of course, the author is not willing to sign right up for this grand experiment. One set of rules for thee, and one for me.

And yes, it’s definitely creepy-feeling, since we seem to be faking our way to a great big war to try and save ourselves from the economic collapse and fiat currency hyperinflation that we’ve gotten ourselves into. I am constantly amused that no one has ever read a history book and realized that you can, in fact, get hyperinflation during a war . . .

    Oy. And vay.
