Before that, we are made well aware that she is a ‘bad ass’.

As it goes on, my buddy said there is a part where she mouths of to a (male) superior in a snotty voice.

People are eating it up and still denying these films have no feminist agenda. Star Wars is now made for women, by women.

I tend not to get worked up over what fictional characters do in written stories. They are works of fiction and mostly intended for entertainment.
Realism and logic generally comes second when writing a story, and it doesn’t bother me much.

Plenty of movies in the past in which men did unrealistic things (like killing lots of enemies). So I really don’t care about women doing unrealistic things as well.

In the Starcraft computer games the men wear big bulky muscular body armor. Women wear tight body suits. In Skyrim men wear full body covering armor, women have their belly exposed. Well, I don’t mind seeing pretty sexy girls do cool stuff, but don’t at any point consider it realistic.

All the examples I mentioned don’t even claim they are trying to be realistic, so like I said it doesn’t bother me.

What I do hate is movies in a realistic setting, and portray women as strong, though and making men lives miserable. (Sex in the City, Desperate Housewives or similar shows) All men are either gay or losers. Why do I hate that? Because women actually see that and think such behavior is cool or normal.

Anyway, film makers will eventually shoot themselves in the foot by only wanting to make women though and guys losers. People turn away from the new Ghostbusters movie simply because telling a story about 4 guys, but then replaced by women, is not really interesting. The story has been told, nothing new is added, and 4 women playing the role of guys is just silly.

I could barely sit through the Hunger Games series because I found the Katniss character just painful to watch. Hunger Games is a borderline case for me because it again is a very fictional universe, but the “female empowerment” message, illogical behavior from characters and the endless talk about feelings just made the movie hard to watch.

As for Star Wars. Referring to Episode 7. People have complained that the character of Finn, is basically shown to be incompetent. This while Rey has unrealistic skills and is very capable. Wanna guess who I was rooting for the whole movie? Exactly, Finn. Why Finn? Because he is the underdog. He was forced to leave his (not so comfortable) comfort zone, thrown in situations he never had to deal with before, always trying to come out on top. That’s the character I wanna root for.

So I think eventually things will correct themselves. Eventually people will have enough of yet another female Mary Sue character actually playing a guys role. It is already becoming clear that not every film series based on a book series targeting female readers means big money.

After The Farce Awakens, I have decided to not watch Star Wars anymore. Star Wars has become a Disney franchise and because of that, it will be a franchise that pops out nonsensical Disney princesses in fictional space.

There is a bonus to all this female empowerment nonsense that is happening in Hollywood now and it is this – It allows a man to use the strong independent empowered women rhetoric to shut down women effectively.

Here are a few examples:-

Woman: “I am worried about the safety of women in Western Europe due to unchecked immigration.”
Me: “Nope. Women are supposed to be strong independent empowered creatures who don’t need men. I’m sure those Western European women will pull a Rey or a Jyn Erso or a Furiosa and save themselves. Woman: “Most women these days are worried about not getting a man and settling down him to start a family.”
Me: “Women are supposed to be strong independent empowered creatures who don’t need men. Remember Rey ? Jyn Erso ? Furiosa ? Hollywood says so which means there is no need to be worried about women who can’t find a man. It just means they will be able to lead the independent life they desire. Shouldn’t you be happy for these independent women who want to be independent. Why are you so misogynistic ?”

Woman: “Women need to be provided with welfare and subsidides.”
Me: “Bulls~~~. Woman are supposed to be strong, independent and empowered like Rey, Jyn Erso and Furiosa. They are not supposed to be pathetic bitches sucking government’s c~~~ for welfare. The existence of Rey, Furiosa, Jyn Erso and other “strong, independent and empowered” female characters is a great way to tell women in real life to woman up and be actually strong and help themselves instead of demanding help from you or other men.
