I got mildly into prepping after a few tornados left my roommate and I scrounging for food in a sparse pantry. Fast forward a few year and I’m leaving my house after filing divorce. I take the emergency fund from the safe to sustain me until my new bank cards arrive. Was useful, because the idiots screwed up sending the cards. I was able to buy food and gas until the replacement cards and checks arrived. This was not something I had considered when prepping. That is the genius of it. If you are prepared, you will likely be able to weather a scenario you hadn’t planned on.

It wasn’t a literal hurricane, but a divorce I was able to survive.

A co-worker recently told me, "If you want to see who someone really is, divorce them." I have found out how true this is. When your wife drops the façade of being the caring partner, you will witness all of the greed, hate, and spite that she has masked. It is truly breathtaking!

I rotate water and dry goods like beans, rice and pasta. I don’t have much in the way of back up canned good. Hope to change that when I get some space cleared up.

Really appreciated all the thoughtful replies, thanks!

I’ve spent years prepping for defenses (guns, ammo, magazines, military red dots and scopes, night vision, body armor, etc). Then added in nuclear & hazard stuff (iosat pills, gas masks, etc). I’ve spent years establishing fruit trees and perennial vegetables and fruits and herbs, and last year had a large vegetable garden of annuals.

Been doing more with water purification, etc. I am now wholeheartedly engaged in stockpiling food. I am finding Excel spreadsheet to be useful in organizing food by categories (grain/starch, veg, fruit, legume/nuts, meat, dairy) and servings per container, calories per serving, cost per container, etc. I can project dietary needs, and how many food/days (total calories / 2,000 calories per day) I have.

I’m very gradually widening the diversity of my canned goods. I only started Friday, but I have about 12-food days stockpiled so far, at fairly small expense. So in addition to the normal food in the pantry, I have enough food for 3 people for 4 days once the regular pantry runs out. Its not much YET, but even Rome wasn’t built in a day.

This sounds amazing. Yes, I think it’s a good idea to gradually build up. One thing they say about stockpiling food/water is that you’re at risk of looting if SHTF and you’re not able to defend yourself: doesn’t sound like you’re going to have too many problems with that.

LeoTheWise: thanks a lot, I’ve actually seen some of your other posts on prepping here!

The more I think about it, the more it seems MGTOW and prepping are very closely linked. I really liked what Silver Fox said:

Yes, there is a natural link mainly because of the self-reliance theme. Escaping from the plantation requires a certain amount of independent thinking, discipline, and clarity of vision, so it would make sense for men to apply these traits to other areas of life.

Leaving my bats~~~ crazy ex was one of the most complex operations I’ve ever had to plan, and included absurdities such as arranging my beloved piano to be moved out of the apartment without her knowing because she was on a transatlantic flight. (Quite funny, looking back now: boy was she surprised when she got back, hehe.) And I guess most MGTOWs have had a SHTF moment in their life with a woman, so it only makes sense to start thinking about other SHTF situations.

There aren't holes in your pockets. It's called marriage.
