Long time no see guys. I stopped visiting/posting on this site a few months ago in order to focus more on my school work and graduate. Around that same time, I also started trying to get a job as a railroad conductor for a class 1 railroad. After graduating, I got a construction type job with a local company, but after only a month of being employed, I was laid off. The company owner was having trouble finding more work for us and decided he needed to let me go to cut expenses. Now that I am unemployed, I am applying for the conductor position in various cities across the country (United States). For now I am just waiting on those applications to result in invites to “hiring sessions”, where I will get a chance to compete with others for the job. I have been to four of these so far, but only in my hometown.
As a MGTOW that doesn’t want to be stuck in a 9 to 5 desk job and doesn’t require much of a social life, this job sounds great for me and perhaps it might for you. No prior experience is required. The lifestyle is very hard on blue pill men and their families, as demonstrated by the extraordinarily high divorce rate for the occupation. As a conductor, you are required to be on call always, regardless of the weather or if it is a holiday etc. After completing a job, a new conductor gets a certain number of rest hours before they can be called in again to work another job, which can be as long as 12 or so hours. For taking on such demands, the railroad compensates it’s conductors well. Some conductors potentially make as much as $70k a year. When a conductor is promoted to engineer, they can potentially make over $100k. If a conductor doesn’t want as many hours and want them to be more predictable, he can usually do so once he has a certain level of seniority.
If this doesn’t work out, then I guess I’ll just try getting another construction job or perhaps even try truck driver. If I do construction, I figure after getting some experience, I could try use that to help me get an apprenticeship for a skilled trade or maybe it could help me get a job as a cable installer. I don’t know. I really hope I can become a conductor. If you can think of any advice to give me, I would appreciate it. If you’d like to know more about being a railroad conductor, I’ve learned a good bit over the past few months, and I can probably help you. If you have military, consider the railroad, they love vets.

Welcome back. Here in the Chicago area, I believe the Metra conductors can make upwards of 80k with overtime. Good job security and retirement too. Good luck!
A acquaintance of mine is a conductor and he says he rides in engine since they don’t use a caboose or any special cars at end of train any longer. He’s divorced and seems to spend most of his working hours in upper midwest routes. He seems to like his work.

Anonymous42Great to hear from you T-K, traveling the rails and $? What MGHOW wouldn’t? I was tempted a few time to travel as cargo just to see what the hobo experience was like, I only made it a few miles before changing my mind, sounds like the perfect job for a MGHOW! Good luck!
