I remember posting just an image for a thread before, but it was obvious to what my point was.

I love it when posters link videos. I just wish they’d paste at least the description of the video from the actual video info.

I also like to hear their thoughts of the video as well. Mainly because I want to be objective as possible and see people’s view points from a wide range of perspectives.

I also get that posting some videos like parodies is obvious as well.

well, we are visual beings, most of the time a visual presentation, a video clip helps.

that being said, writing is a lost art, i rather read a good book like the original mary shelley’s frankenstein than the awful remake of a remake any day.

Look, im 35, i grew up with crap on tv and good scientific books.
I only had a computer when i was 12, a toshiba 486 with win95 and the first time i had internet acess was in the year 2000.

kids today around 20 GREW UP WITH COMPUTERS and internet.

to them a book is a boring old thing they had to read in school.

And the irony is that today i have acess to loads and loads of books, software, videos on torrent sites.

But globalization is making everybody stupid and bland because it caters to the lowest denominator.

And reading takes practice, looking at videos is natural to humans.

So, expect more and more videos in the future as a sign of the state of mankind today.

I actually prefer videos over written articles, because it gives you a real visual of what people are talking about. I don’t want to read up something; I’m not much a reader type. Even on people’s message posts, if it’s too long, or even if a video is too long, I pass it up. I don’t like long-winded stuff.

I would strongly disagree. Globalization is one of the best things that happened to modern society. Without it, we would never have been able to make so many advances that we have now.

Sure it has some side effects; it caters to the lowest denominator….but that is what’s necessary if you want an entire race to advance: something that appeals to everybody, be their IQ 75 or 170.

Its negative aspects are outweighed by its positives by a large scale.. like 1:10000

globalization politically is bad because it leads to loss of sovereignty and unipolar world with no alternatives which in turn will lead to totalitarian state and eventually – mass depopulation

globalization economically is good for 3rd world and bad for 1st world. And its main side effect is that it leads to political globalization.

with globalization world will become like something out of Hunger Games – heavily specialized sectors that can’t survive on their own without the central government.

I am afraid that globalization is inevitable, since people don’t realize how important individual sovereign states are and necessity for a multi-polar world, and dire consequences for humankind that will ensue with NWO – new dark ages and total stagnation

Just curious if this is a generational thing or something else. I’m a big fan of reading. I grew up without the internet at all, and there were very few videos. Once the internet came about, it was almost entirely text then too.

Forums came, and we’d usually link articles, and then eventually some had videos in them, but nobody really linked just a video.

But it seems like 8/10 threads that I click, it’s just a link to the video. The OP doesn’t write their own thoughts or anything, and there is no link to text, it’s just a video and that’s all. Maybe one line at most.

Is this a new generational thing? I am curious about this. I’ll still have my own preferences but I’m interested to see if this is me being an old man out of touch with the younger guys, which I don’t mind, and why you guys prefer videos.

For me I generally don’t have time to watch videos, and I don’t know if there will even be anything useful stated in it. So I prefer text because I can scroll through it, and if there are relevant parts I can copy and paste the quotes for other people, which I can’t do with video. Some of these videos are really long too! An hour, or even two hours! I’m amazed that people sit there and watch through all of that, and then comment? Really interested to me. I’m also curious if people break the long videos up or something over time, as I’d be surprised if everyone had that much time to sit there and just watch long videos throughout the day in one go!

why don’t you get off your lazy ass instead of complaining? I have kept most videos and links to myself. I’m not going to put much effort if guys like you whine. You are lazy and don’t do s~~~ but cry like a big baby. Nobody is forcing you to watch videos.

I agree with you. I would just rather read a synopsis of the video and move on. I will not watch a one or two hour video. I get bored to quick. If the synopsis is well done I can make a reasonable comment from there.

Same goes from you old man, you just whine when you contribute f~~~ all. You don’t even work wtf do you do?

I would be happy if there were no graphics whatsoever. I remember the days when there was no such thing as web based forums, it was all in usenet (or whatever it was called, can’t remember).

I generally view this site from work, and cannot really view videos. I am sometimes concerned that certain images are going to get me in trouble, but that’s my own risk to take.

I don’t know if there is any interest from others, but I’d love it there was a trimmed down version of this site, that would be more palatable for those at work. Perhaps there already is a mobile version that I’m not aware of.

    Ok. Then do it.

    @op

I think it is also about the content of the video.

Some videos are fairly informative so you wouldn’t have to explain yourself in the article. Some videos just make you speechless, so you just post the link, and expect the topic title to be self-explanatory.

I use that strategy if I want them to click on the video instead of forming an opinion on what I post. If I write something, people tend to do that as a summary whats in the video.

If I link a video I usually add in a paragraph or two stating my thoughts on the subject. I sort of hate it when members post threads of just a video and never add a description or anything else to it.

These are just reasonable requests and not the result of laziness. Not everyone is able to watch the long videos when they first appear or even later. It is just courtesy to state briefly what the video is about so members can decide if it is relevant to them.

Because some videos contain useful information that bears sharing.

So what’s wrong with linking videos? The only alternative to disseminate the information would be transcribing them with a descriptive text of any action and posting that here. Who has time to do that? Who has time to read that? How do you do that and preserve the non-verbal cues that videos convey but text so often doesn’t? Sarcasm is easy when spoken, but hard when written.
