Anonymous3Just curious if this is a generational thing or something else. I’m a big fan of reading. I grew up without the internet at all, and there were very few videos. Once the internet came about, it was almost entirely text then too.
Forums came, and we’d usually link articles, and then eventually some had videos in them, but nobody really linked just a video.
But it seems like 8/10 threads that I click, it’s just a link to the video. The OP doesn’t write their own thoughts or anything, and there is no link to text, it’s just a video and that’s all. Maybe one line at most.
Is this a new generational thing? I am curious about this. I’ll still have my own preferences but I’m interested to see if this is me being an old man out of touch with the younger guys, which I don’t mind, and why you guys prefer videos.
For me I generally don’t have time to watch videos, and I don’t know if there will even be anything useful stated in it. So I prefer text because I can scroll through it, and if there are relevant parts I can copy and paste the quotes for other people, which I can’t do with video. Some of these videos are really long too! An hour, or even two hours! I’m amazed that people sit there and watch through all of that, and then comment? Really interested to me. I’m also curious if people break the long videos up or something over time, as I’d be surprised if everyone had that much time to sit there and just watch long videos throughout the day in one go!
I agree with you. I would just rather read a synopsis of the video and move on. I will not watch a one or two hour video. I get bored to quick. If the synopsis is well done I can make a reasonable comment from there.
Women's brains and vagina have one thing in common. There is nothing in there until a man puts something in there.
If I link a video I usually add in a paragraph or two stating my thoughts on the subject. I sort of hate it when members post threads of just a video and never add a description or anything else to it.
I also don’t think it’s a generational thing because I see quite a few older members do this as well.
I’m trying to stay away from watching MGTOW Youtube videos because you never know if those same posters are like Sandman or not and I really hate Sandman’s content in general.

Well it is those links to videos that is helping this web site in making the site’s video archive. It has already been a few days now that I am trying to watch all the videos in the video archive site to really get a thorough education in the mgtow philosophy in general. I really suggest that people here would do the same in going through all the videos in this site’s video archive because I already went through some really good gems. Who even needs cable television with all the video content we have here.

The OP doesn’t write their own thoughts or anything,
This website is an archive as well, and I understand why someone might hand-select something to share it as relevant. We often bookmark them for consideration for the archives, or at least support material for a future article. Our archives have very key & singular examples that encapsulate an idea into one video on issues that impact men…. on any subject.
and there is no link to text, it’s just a video and that’s all.
If I had to criticize, I generally don’t like any “statement” (or media item ) that doesn’t have as least some kind of supporting reason for saying & brining it… or some extension on top of it.
But I am more concerned the member won’t get too many replies to it. – except maybe a few views and +1. By adding a paragraph or expanding on the idea or adding a real world experience of their own, we become more involved in it.
I’ll still have my own preferences but I’m interested to see if this is me being an old man out of touch with the younger guys, which I don’t mind, and why you guys prefer videos.
Text based forums are great because writing it out helps break it down FOR THE WRITER too. You’re also not influenced by a face, the music, the background, the tone of voice, the mood, the setting, the sound quality, or any of those factors beyond the words.
But mostly, the writing and reading is my preference as well. I see very few videos that make me say “wow”. But videos make for good support materials.
Like busting gold diggers in public ( for example ). It’s really necessary to see it in action if you’re going to talk about. It’s not enough to just type “women are such gold diggers”.
That statement could be perceived as “misogynistic”.
… until you staple a few videos to it from the field. We have to be able to support it.
When we get detractors writing to us who have a problem with the site, we ask for SPECIFICS. “Bring at least one example that you are talking about, and show us how it’s unreasonable or wrong”.
They NEVER do.
And because they don’t, we can PROVIDE an example where they failed to bring one. They didn’t do their homework. So when you type “feminism has generally made women unhappy”…. a detractor might say “SAYS WHO??”. And then you get to say “Women themselves, CNN, and it’s backed up by scientific study and female testimony“.
Now they will run for the hills. Because it elevates it to more than just a personal opinion… and they have to work harder to cut it down.
Opinions are like assholes. Everybody’s got one.
But when you remove the “opinion” part, they are forced to accept the facts. If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.
Anonymous7Sometimes the video is so good that an attempted summary wouldnt make it sound any better or I just don’t have the time to type a paragraph but the video is still gold.
Anonymous12Depends on the video I guess, some are just parody ones that don’t require any synopsis and then others I guess the poster thinks it speaks for itself.
I would prefer to have an idea of what they want me to click on though, I usually don’t want them at all, or if they are really long I watch long enough to get a jist of it. Or I wait for others to comment to provide some insight into what the video is about.
I usually find them time consuming. I don’t know if it is a generational thing or not, I’m 42 for the record.
Sometimes the video is so good that an attempted summary wouldnt make it sound any better or I just don’t have the time to type a paragraph but the video is still gold.
I agree. Although it is wise to summarize the video, for those who won’t or can’t watch it; sometimes the picture…or in this case, the video .. is worth more than a thousand words.
I agree that the previous generation did not have much access to video and sound media like we do; that’s why its understandable they prefer the written word over the voiced ones.
Recent research suggests that images and videos can illustrate an idea more vividly than the written word can. That’s why children textbooks are filled with pictures… and modern educational systems are adopting verbal methods of teaching. It just creates a bigger impact and helps to better understand a particular idea or concept.
Here is a research article for more information:

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Before MGTOW was all over youtube, (2010?) my Sunday night reading was from the old MGTOW forums before they closed in 2014 – 3 months before we got here.
Many of you know the user “Cap” who I became a silent fan of and I never even posted anything there. He would put down a thought or sentence and it stuck with me for years… more than any 30 minute video.
Just …BLAM! There it was. Loved it.
Eventually when he joined here, I was so thrilled and introduced myself to him as someone who was profoundly impacted by a few of his sentences. He really made a lasting impression.
The only video author who blew my hair back to the point where I wanted to listen more than once was Barbarossa. I had to REWIND and even told him to slow down in a comment …. because he spouted brilliance in consecutive sentences and I couldn’t keep up. I needed to PROCESS it. Reading makes that easier I think.
If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.I’ll admit it, I’m a video poster, particularly if a rare, non-gynocentric perspective manages to somehow miraculously crawl its way through the Hollywood / documentary / TV funding system.
A picture says a thousand words and sometimes a short-video just nails-it and encapsulates a perspective / argument / analogy / scenario far better than I could ever craft with my own limited penmanship.
A case in point –

I’ll admit it, I’m a video poster
I’ve seen your posts and threads you’ve created, & consistently like them.

Thanks Keymaster, means a lot. Another reason I post videos I think my fellow MGTOW can relate to is to increase their awareness and search engine rankings. I’m no computer guru but I understand the more a video or article is shared or linked-to (referenced), the higher it ranks in searches.
It’s also the reason I take a some extra time to add extra relevant tags to a post, so those who are not yet MGTOW might stumble upon this site and learn how to reclaim their lives. Despite its flaws, Google has the ability to save lives by helping young men connect the dots of the male / female dynamic and better understand the workings of our lizard brains.
A teenage me living in the internet age would have found this site to be a goldmine of advice and knowledge to help chart the treacherous, gynocentric waters of the modern age. There’s much talk of the ‘YouTube’ generation, so if that’s their conduit of information then I’d like to think I’m helping some of the MGTOW cream float to above all the hypergamous, blue-pill, gynocentric crap that we are fed both on YouTube and the ever-dying mainstream media.

Most times I do summary or make a comment. For you information in most videos there is a summary or comment about the video, if you click on youtube if it’s embedded or if a direct link you will see it also.
I have watched a lot of videos. I try not to judge videos I think there are great ideas in a lot of videos and when you collect the ideas together they are a lot better.
Also some of those long vidoes are very educational and useful. I make time to watch them. Now I am pretty much caught on most videos expect the news other coming up.
I can stop sharing videos if you would like. It take a lot of time to make a good long summary.

You’re not out of touch don’t worry.
I’m a bit reluctant to write my own thoughts when i write posts, i’m a young guy, what can i tell you that you don’t already know. That’s why i lean to showing/repeating what other people said/did.
That’s the main reason i think. As someone who is sort of new , I like to watch the videos people post here.
Anonymous1New here myself, but i normally shun any topic with video content, especially those with no text whatsoever.
it’s a shame because i open what looks like a really interesting topic, then i’m immediately put off when I find a video with no text accompaniment.
that’s just my take though.
I enjoy watching videos that people share, when I have time for it. And reading posts.
As well as commenting on threads here btw, hi phoenix ! 😀A picture says a thousand words and sometimes a short-video just nails-it and encapsulates a perspective
Exactly. Keep them coming man.
Good day/evening everyone !-----------
@oz-bloke, keep them coming man. I also enjoy your posts with video attachments. When I come to MGTOW.com I come for information. I figure that I don’t know it all. I know many of you scour the internet looking for nuggets of truth. Thanks to everyone for sharing.

Education can be redundant, sometimes it is a viewer’s first experience with said media. MGTOW.com, freeing the minds of men.
Usualy when i post a video link it comes with some context.
For example the gay man who was forced to pay child support because some C~~~ found his name on FaceBook.
Or
The videos by John The Other and Diana Davis explaining and exposing the religious foundation of feminism.frankly my dear i don't give a damn
I’m guilty of this.
Normally, I’ll make a short statement and then attach an article or video to document the statement.
Some guys here are probably more subjective and like to share interesting stories and ideas.
Other guys here seem to be more objective and offer statistics etc.
Both styles are useful in communicating ideas.
