Question for you all

Now that I get the notifications on the little bell in the bottom left of my screen (which is freaking awesome by the way) I see that my profile gets looked at quite frequently by guests to the site. I’m not sure how this makes me feel.

On one hand, if it’s a guy thinking about joining, then I’m totally fine with it. But as the site gets more popular and more and more women try to infiltrate I’m not that comfortable with them looking up anyone’s profile. Especially having a narcissistic ex, the thought of her trying to track me down and retaliate doesn’t sit very well with me.

So I just want to throw this topic out to the group. Would you rather have your profile page visible to members only? What about some of the new guys? Did you see any benefit in being able to read the profiles before you joined?

@taxguy: I’ve thought the same. However, that could happen regardless of the notification. It’s always a risk we take.

Yes TaxGuy getting that quite often too with guests, I am hoping most of the time its guys just looking for support that are curious and wish to preview the site before joining. But of course this is the big internet and there will be plenty of tunas and trolls viewing members profiles too.

I understand the tax guys point. I’m a professional I don’t want my f~~~ing designation revealed. I get a few of them a day to and I talk to the keymaster about it and have to do is go into your settings and I think you can turn off your notifications for your privacy settings

I guess I need to make my profile more obnoxious for any tuna or manginas. A true MGHOW would love it.

It seems every time I try to change the settings on notifications, all it does is redirect me to ‘Change your Password’. I click on the notification settings I want to remove, then click ‘Update Settings’ but all it does is redirect me and if I click out and then go back to Settings it’s back to the way it was with all the boxes still checked. How do I change it without it constantly redirecting me after I click on it? Or is that how it has to be done? Because I don’t really want to keep changing my password, if that even does anything.

I don’t worry about tunas sniffing around my profile. What’s she going to do with that info anyway? Hike her leg and pee on it? Just remember, no one here is looking anyone in the eye. If we choose to get together on our own it’s incumbent on each of us to be careful…just try not to be paranoid.

Here is some more info from earlier today.

/forums/topic/editing-your-notifications/ Please read what I left there. Everyone has the ability to turn that “guest” view notification off.

50% of our visitors are uniques and not logged in visitors. They might like what you wrote and click your avatar to look closer. Some members here have “fans” too. We also have web crawlers and google which visits daily and that can also +1 a “guest” view which is of no consequence.

@tattoodave you have extended privacy settings (as a Galt member) and you can make your profile totally invisible to anyone but admins here. (notice the extra ability to say “only those I follow can view my profile”. That’s new too.)

My point isn’t about turning off the notification. It’s about making the profiles viewable only to members. Sorry if I didn’t make that clear. I’m just curious if there is any benefit to the new people that would out way our privacy to the outside world.

The alternative is to just delete everything off of my profile….

It’s quite alright. As a ghost member you can hide your profile too and have options to show it to some , but not everyone.
