So let me get this straight: Jesus Christ: never married. Pope: never married. Bishops and Cardinals: never married. Priests: never married. Not one of the 10 commandments specifies that I owe God a marriage to any person. But Pope says I should get married because it’s so noble and wonderful?

Pope says that blaming the decline in marriage rates on female emancipation is an error. But he is slightly off here. It isn’t the emancipation of females that caused men to walk away from marrying them. Emancipation means they have self ownership and self determination and power to navigate their own lives. None of that costs me anything. I have no problem with anyone having power to self determination.

But that’s not what marriage is anymore. Today, marriage is a contract that gives a woman the power to enslave me and/or completely wreck my life. That’s not emancipation of women. That’s subjugation of men. And wether he wants to admit it or not, that’s the reason marriage rates are falling. Why does the Pope believe I’m chauvinist if I don’t agree to hand over that power to a woman? Why does a woman need that power to wreck me? Why does the Pope need a woman to have that power to wreck me? What does a woman intend to do with that power if she gets it?

I live on a couple of non-negotailbe principles regarding relationships. First, all healthy relationships are mutually voluntary and so must be mutually beneficial. Second, I do not owe a relationship with me to any person. If the Pope disagrees, let him make his argument re: why I owe a relationship to a woman? and why I should be required to be a parasitic relationship that I didn’t volunteer for?
He has made his choices. I have made mine. Regarding marriage, we made the same choice.
