Men are abstaining from marriage because they don’t want to face financial devastation from divorce, STDs and emotional devastation from cheating, or legal devastation from false domestic violence charges. Men have good reason to fear these things…the stats make it plain that these are not pie-in-the-sky scenarios. They are just as likely as not.

Avoiding a high-cost-low-benefit deal that puts one at great risk is in no way an effort at domination.

I’m well aware of that. The only reason the church ever decides to change anything is if it hurts their bottom line. Maybe if their lawsuits pile up enough, they’ll go back to allowing their clergy to get married again.

As I always say: If you want to see changes made by any organization, whether it be private or public, hit them in their pocketbook! Even the most stubborn pricks will eventually cave if you hurt their bottom line enough.

That is, after all, what is really getting the pope’s knickers in a knot. It’s not the fact that he feels that marriage is so sacred. It’s because fewer marriages means fewer children being brought up as Catholics, which means fewer followers in the future. Less followers = less money. THAT is what he is truly p~~~ed off about. Unfortunately for him, the church can’t just go on a crusade, bashing in the heads of people with different beliefs, and using toture devices to get people to convert like they did in the good ‘ol days.

If young men are unwilling to take that next step in commitment it’s because they’ve seen men and families destroyed by divorce. Since women end marriages 70 percent of the time and only 13 percent of long term marriages are “content” these young men aren’t chauvinists, the actual step of marriage doesn’t offer them more.
