Men on Wall Street are so spooked by the #MeToo movement they’re avoiding women at all costs

No more dinners with female colleagues. Don’t sit next to them on flights. Book hotel rooms on different floors. Avoid one-on-one meetings.

In fact, as a wealth adviser put it, just hiring a woman these days is “an unknown risk.” What if she took something he said the wrong way?

Across Wall Street, men are adopting controversial strategies for the #MeToo era and, in the process, making life even harder for women.

Call it the Pence Effect, after U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who has said he avoids dining alone with any woman other than his wife. In finance, the overarching impact can be, in essence, gender segregation.

Interviews with more than 30 senior executives suggest many are spooked by #MeToo and struggling to cope. “It’s creating a sense of walking on eggshells,” said David Bahnsen, a former managing director at Morgan Stanley who’s now an independent adviser overseeing more than US$1.5 billion.

This is hardly a single-industry phenomenon, as men across the country check their behaviour at work, to protect themselves in the face of what they consider unreasonable political correctness — or to simply do the right thing. The upshot is forceful on Wall Street, where women are scarce in the upper ranks. The industry has also long nurtured a culture that keeps harassment complaints out of the courts and public eye, and has so far avoided a mega-scandal like the one that has engulfed Harvey Weinstein.

Now, more than a year into the #MeToo movement — with its devastating revelations of harassment and abuse in Hollywood, Silicon Valley and beyond — Wall Street risks becoming more of a boy’s club, rather than less of one.

“Women are grasping for ideas on how to deal with it, because it is affecting our careers,” said Karen Elinski, president of the Financial Women’s Association and a senior vice president at Wells Fargo & Co. “It’s a real loss.”

There’s a danger, too, for companies that fail to squash the isolating backlash and don’t take steps to have top managers be open about the issue and make it safe for everyone to discuss it, said Stephen Zweig, an employment attorney with FordHarrison.

“If men avoid working or traveling with women alone, or stop mentoring women for fear of being accused of sexual harassment,” he said, “those men are going to back out of a sexual harassment complaint and right into a sex discrimination complaint.”

While the new personal codes for dealing with #MeToo have only just begun to ripple, the shift is already palpable, according to the people interviewed, who declined to be named. They work for hedge funds, law firms, banks, private equity firms and investment-management firms.

For obvious reasons, few will talk openly about the issue. Privately, though, many of the men interviewed acknowledged they’re channeling Pence, saying how uneasy they are about being alone with female colleagues, particularly youthful or attractive ones, fearful of the rumour mill or of, as one put it, the potential liability.

A manager in infrastructure investing said he won’t meet with female employees in rooms without windows anymore; he also keeps his distance in elevators. A late-40-something in private equity said he has a new rule, established on the advice of his wife, an attorney: no business dinner with a woman 35 or younger.

The changes can be subtle but insidious, with a woman, say, excluded from casual after-work drinks, leaving male colleagues to bond, or having what should be a private meeting with a boss with the door left wide open.

On Wall Street as elsewhere, reactions to #MeToo can smack of paranoia, particularly given the industry’s history of protecting its biggest revenue generators.

“Some men have voiced concerns to me that a false accusation is what they fear,” said Zweig, the lawyer. “These men fear what they cannot control.”

There are as many or more men who are responding in quite different ways. One, an investment adviser who manages about 100 employees, said he briefly reconsidered having one-on-one meetings with junior women. He thought about leaving his office door open, or inviting a third person into the room.

Finally, he landed on the solution: “Just try not to be an asshole.”

That’s pretty much the bottom line, said Ron Biscardi, chief executive officer of Context Capital Partners. “It’s really not that hard.”

In January, as #MeToo was gathering momentum, Biscardi did away with the late-night, open-bar gathering he’d hosted for years in his penthouse suite during Context Capital’s annual conference at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. “Given the fact that women are in the minority at our events, we want to make sure that the environment is always welcoming and comfortable. We felt that eliminating the after-party was necessary to remain consistent with that goal.”

In this charged environment, the question is how the response to #MeToo might actually end up hurting women’s progress. Given the male dominance in Wall Street’s top jobs, one of the most pressing consequences for women is the loss of male mentors who can help them climb the ladder.

“There aren’t enough women in senior positions to bring along the next generation all by themselves,” said Lisa Kaufman, chief executive officer of LaSalle Securities. “Advancement typically requires that someone at a senior level knows your work, gives you opportunities and is willing to champion you within the firm. It’s hard for a relationship like that to develop if the senior person is unwilling to spend one-on-one time with a more junior person.”

Men have to step up, she said, and “not let fear be a barrier.”

    ——— end article —–

So thats it, men are assholes if they try to change their behavior and limit opportunities for women to make charges against them. The women always make it about themselves, never even considering what men are facing. Because as women they are not up against what men are facing, so they dont have to care, and never do.

Its called FREEDOM OF ASSOCIATION, and we dont force office women to hang around with office men they dont want to be around in their spare time off the clock. f~~~ off, the pence rules are going to be normalized for any man who values freedom and career.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

They are purposely putting deadly wrong, horrible advice into this article for men, in order to deliberately screw more men over who are duped into believing this bulls~~~ “advice.”

Men are starting to wisen up and realize that women have been trying to knock men out of all positions of power. If you read the article, the only problem feminists have with gender segregation is that there are not enough senior women to guarantee the success of each and every ambitious little worker bee to be boss one day.

If the feminists plans succeed there will be no men in management and having a vagina will be the only requirement for managerial positions.

Men will be sent off to work in the mines.

And what you just said doesn’t even work in real life. Higher up women do not mentor lower women as replacements. They dont do it. in fact another story posted here not too long ago made a clear case that almost all women do not like working for a woman superior.

So this whole idea that there needs to be a woman higher up to ensure other make it up the chain, in real life, that just does not happen.

Women want everything, but want responsibility and accountability for nothing.

Men should never pay for a woman. The reason why, is that when a man is paying for a meal that was eaten by a woman, it is patronizing and sexist on the part of the man, in this day and age of gender equality. If anything the woman should pay for the bill to demonstrate that she is not only a strong and independent woman who can take care of herself, but also to demonstrate that she makes enough money to buy dinner for both, something that was normally only expected out of men, and if she doesn’t then clearly she doesn’t believe that she is the equal of men.

Oh dearie me. What a tragedy. Women have to lie in the bed they made for themselves. Alone.

I fail to see how this is my problem.

No more dinners with female colleagues. Don’t sit next to them on flights. Book hotel rooms on different floors. Avoid one-on-one meetings.

Don’t employ them. Don’t invest in their ventures. Don’t give them first aid.

    And so on.

“those men are going to back out of a sexual harassment complaint and right into a sex discrimination complaint.”

If you’re damned if you do and damned if you don’t, it’s best to fall back on don’t. As in don’t hire women.

Besides, I’d love to see such a complaint go all the way to the supreme court now that Kavanaugh is on it. If he wasn’t sympathetic to the falsely accused before, he sure as hell is now.

I stopped dating a while ago…it took a long time before I acknowledged that it was nothing more than a Con Game played by women to victimize men and steal their money from them in different ways.
AWALT….I was a very slow and skeptical learner, but now I am a believer in AWALT and that also extends to women in my own family.
Now days; I keep my distance and I am consigned to the fact that the Blue Pill life was nothing more than a Fantasy perpetrated by our culture and Hollywood but underneath it all were female grifters stretching back through millennia.
The difference is now they can divorce you at the drop of a hat: no reason necessary, and take at least half of everything.
And they complain about the pay gap and make the claim for Gender Equality yet they are absent when the bill arrives….
Not for me….a Woman’s behavior is never going to change in my lifetime, and the problem is that the system rewards her for behaving at her worst…
And MGTOW is nothing more than boycotting women because of how the System punishes men and rewards women at their expense.
#metoo is nothing more than a Shakedown Operation for money and power.

peacefully avoid them completely, as mgtow do, and get called every name in the book.

interact with them, and get metoo’d and charged with sexual harassment.

when that happens, well… you must have just been an asshole.

Duke lacross team, VA tech (?) fraternity in the Rolling Stone article, cops accused by Tawana Brawly, US Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh were all just assholes who deserved it.

Calling me an asshole for staying outside the reach of an irate woman’s false claim of sexual harassment will have no more effect on my behavior than calling me a misogynist had on my willingness to get married (I still got the clean, ringless finger…)

Look, it's not my fault that tornado dropped a house on your sister. Now get back on your broom and get your ass out of here... and take your monkeys with you

You can’t win in this Gynocentric System.

If you avoid the #METOO false allegations they will hit you with a “Discrimination” complaint.

We’re damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

Ghosting is of critical importance here. Young Men, get into STEM fields. You can work in a c~~~ free environment for the most part. Learn to become invisible around females. No interactions at all. Noting is completely safe, but you can reduce your risk.

A friend sent me some twits from GAY GUYS complaining about women accusing them from sexual harassment.
Women and logic don’t mix, but c~~~s accusing gays to sexually harass them is a whole new level of being retarded.

As always, c~~~s want it all, they want all the protection and privileges that they can get.
In the end of the day, everything will be always men’s fault, so we have to choose the reason to be fired and jailed, or it is by discriminating against woman, or by sexually harass them for not discriminating them, so much freedom of choice, is like there isn’t real problems in the world that we need to focus and we can waste all our time with this bulls~~~ drama.

The dude totally misses the point. Its not like guys are scared they’re going to lose control and randomly rape a female coworker because she’s just so sexy and amazing they just can’t control themselves, guys are concerned about two things.

    1. False allegations. Made up bulls~~~. Complete and utter lies. Look at Judge Kavanaugh as an example…shortly after he was appointed multiple of his accusers admitted to telling completely made up lies. Even if you manage to defend yourself against it, it can still cost a lot of time, money, and deal a serious hit to your(and your businesses) reputation.

    2. Its ok because they want it right now, but should they change their mind in the future its rape. Look at Weinstein for example. None of those hookers, I mean actresses, had any issue with him while he was supplying them with fame and fortune via movie roles. Once they hit the wall and were replaced by younger and hotter…suddenly…it was a problem. Or how about another example for the more average person. There was that case where the college student got drilled by two football players, then claimed it was rape the next day because she had some guy she wanted to be her BF and was scared if he found out he’d (rightfully) think she was a slut and not want to be with her…so it was rape. The two guys got kicked out of school, lost their athletic scholarships, and got put through hell in the court system over that bulls~~~, and even once it was found she was totally full of s~~~ they still ended up f~~~ed over and she got a slap on the wrist sentence.

Only way to beat those things is to never be in a situation where either of those scenarios would be even mildly believable. Don’t spend time 1 on 1 with them, don’t be alone with them, and don’t have anything to do with them outside of work. No exceptions…and even then…they still might just make s~~~ up.

Men sexually segregating from the Gynocracy is such a devastatingly effective tool that Harvard announced today that any student that is in a segregated club or society is no longer able to be have full rights on campus. If you are a male and seen to be in a male only group you will no longer have the right to be the Captain of things such as sports teams. Basically relegating those who try to avoid putting themselves at the mercy of the Gynocracy as persona non-grata in society.

Gynocentric groups, like female only clubs, sororities, female empowerment clubs, are exempt.

    Of course.

I believe this will not hold. Segregation of the sexes is he natural state of things. Most major religions practice segregation of the sexes. It is we who are so full of ourselves and far from the truth in this endeavour to place women above men. A position they are not qualified for.

I find it hilarious that while the powerful rich wall street brokers constantly rail against the Trump Administration in public, in their private lives these same men are following Vice President Pence view in how to be around women.

This is how to win a culture war. Not by screaming and insulting people in public, but by convincing people to change their private lives to how you believe they should lead their lives.
