I got fired today from my part time job at a grocery store. They gave many bulls~~~ reasons, e.g., “You stand around doing nothing a lot.” (Response: When the counter is set up, the only thing to do is to wait for customers to come and ask for s~~~.) “You don’t take an initiative to look for what needs to be done.” (Response: Because every time I have, I’ve been chewed out for doing something wrong.), etc., etc.
But the most salient reason was because I always left right at the end of my shift before waiting for the next guy to replace me.
When my manager called me out on this the first time, I told him to the tune that, as I was being paid $11.40 an hour (Canadian dollars, no less), it’s not my problem that at the end of the shift there’s no one there to man the counter; however, I told him if that’s what he needs of me, I’m happy to try to come to some sort of arrangement to meet his needs—I told him $15/hr was fair, but he would have none of that. So I told him that’s fine, it was entirely up to him; but if you’re going to pay me only $11.40/hr, if you schedule me for 8-12:30, then I’m going to be there at 8-12:30.
He also got mad that one time I wouldn’t stay longer than I was scheduled, when he asked me to last minute. I told him that I’m happy to meet the needs of the company any way I can, but we need to renegotiate the terms of my employment; $15/hr was fair, I thought.
They told me I have an attitude problem, and one of the reasons they gave, besides what I just mentioned, was because, when they told me to come down to the store to talk to them, I insisted on punching in before going down to the office for a talk, even though they didn’t want me to. (Something tells me if I wanted to take a stick of gum and leave without paying, promising to pay later, they would probably think twice about trying to not let me punch in.)
Fortunately, I wasn’t reliant for my survival on that job (at least not yet). My dad tells me that I’m lazy and have a terrible work ethic, and that if it were the choice between that job and living on the street, I’d probably think differently; I told him if my life ever came down to that choice, I’d probably kill myself (if the only way you can survive is working 80 hrs/week on minimum wage, and have no money or time left for yourself, what’s the point of being alive?).
Does it make me lazy because I refuse to adopt a slave’s work ethic, i.e., to not approach my jobs thinking “I better do everything my master tells me, or I’ll die!”

You have to do what you do regardless of what anyone says if you need to stay 10 or 15 minutes extra so be it don’t take it the wrong way but you’re probably lucky to have a job so grin and bear it Focus work save money if you don’t waste it on women you will be a millionaire in 5 years.
You were underpaid. And on top of that, they wanted you to stay a little extra, here and there.
You have the right attitude. In that you were giving them no more than what they were paying for. F~~~ them.
I do agree with you, that an 80 hour work week can be comparable to suicide.
Like a few wiser gents have mentioned. Getting into the trades, even well after school. Is a really smart way to go.
Thinking of doing something similar myself.
Good luck finding something quickly. Hit the ground running.

Anonymous7F~~~ that guy hope you gave him a hard time. Dont take s~~~ for 11 dollars an hour
that’s the sad reality of the job market nowadays, where workers are plentiful and disposable, and the employer could care less about wages, benefits, or if you show up tomorrow.

Your attitude is perfect, a job have nothing to do with ethics, it’s just a contract: you pay me for XYZ, I do XYZ.
Your problem is an image problem: you should have a job where the employer isn’t able to watch all you do all the time. In my job, in example, my employer knows where I’m and he can check the results of my work, but he cannot see that right now I’m posting here through my personal tablet. This isn’t going to damage the company: company’s well-doing is partially my well-doing, too, and it would be very stupid damaging them. This afternoon they’ll check the results, and the results are going to be satisfying, as usual.

F~~~ them. Most of these businesses treat their employees like s~~~. They should have told the guy that works the shift after you to be there on time when you change shifts.
I always get to work 10 minutes early so the person leaving doesn’t have to be there any longer than they have to. We have to relay information to the next shift concerning what happened on our shift so that’s why I get here early. I’ve worked with several people that barely make it in on time and then f~~~ around instead of letting me tell them what’s up and then get on the road.

Anonymous42it’s not my problem that at the end of the shift there’s no one there to man the counter
Hey Rockman, I had a job once driving a forklift, I was one of 3 people in the shipping department, we worked like dogs and I’m surprised nobody got killed by the speeding forklifts returning to the presses as fast as we could to keep the stackers free of skids they already stacked. We literally skidded to a stop with the forks under the pallets lifting then driving away to the shipping dep. slowly and careful not to spill the neatly stacked bundles of papers.
Anyway, one night I was all alone and could only puckup and drop off until shipping was loaded with unbanded, unweighed pallets all over the place, usually I weighed, banded, and loaded them into the trailers.
12 hr shift ended and I punched out. Those motherf~~~ers were animate that I should spend HALF A F~~~ING DAY banding, weighing, and putting it all away. They were serious and my foreman said it was MY RESPONSIBILITY and he wouldn’t let me punch back in, and they really NEEDED ME because the first shift was a man short. Without my help the presses would have and DID STOP from the LACK of SLAVE LABOR. I walked out with them following me and telling me that I CAN’T LEAVE! to get back and CLEAN UP THE MESS I MADE, I never said a word from the second my foreman would not allow me to punch back in and be a paid slave. I walked out only to return on payday to get my pay. I slept all day extra long feeling the pain from a heroic effort to keep all the presses running instead of following the procedure all the way to loading the trailers.
I never worked a sweat shop like that EVER AGAIN.BRAVO Rockmanioff! F~~~ WORKING FOR FREE! Those presses stopping cost the company THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AN HOUR! perhaps 10 GRAND all said and done! All because they would pay me about 100 bucks before taxes.
S~~~ JOBS WILL ALWAYS BE S~~~ JOBS! WORKING A S~~~ AND NOT BEING PAID IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS EATING S~~~! MY LIPS WOULD HAVE BROWN THAT DAY HAD I WORKED PAST MY SHIFT! HOW?
1. KISSING THE FOREMAN’S ASS AND GETTING MY LIPS COVERED IN HIS S~~~!
2. WORKING FOR FREE AND EATING THE S~~~ AND SWALLOWING!
Never put your heart into a S~~~ JOB, however, when in a s~~~ job always be looking for another before you quit in anger and disgust or getting fired. I hate the f~~~ing smell of ink to this day!
Next time ask for a raise with another job already lined up.
Within 1 week I started an interior painting company company with my friend that learned from a professional painter that had 40 years in residential interior painting.
My body and brains thanked me for leaving the noisy high paced sweat shop.
P.S. I never had a Pressman or 2nd pressman complaint for not keeping his stackers free and clear with ample supply of pallets. Other dudes would forget pickups or pallets always leaving the stackers running to shipping for more pallets, and the stupid f~~~s used to poke holes in the aluminum trailers, one guy put his forks through a cement block wall and another shift the guy went straight over the loading dock and shish kabobed the parking lot, got too close to the edge.
however I am omitting the time I lifted a press just to see if it could then dropped it before it had time to flip over as the rear of the forklift raised upward off it’s prayer mat.
And the time I was doing doughnuts in a puddle of solvent and slid onto dry almost flipping it sideways as it posed long enough for a photograph before it SLAMMED (like the press) back on all 4s.
If you don’t really need the job. You can ask them.
Why are you punishing me for another person mistake?
It is the other person duty to be there 12:30, I am not responsible for that person turning up late. If that’s the way this store runs, I better be late coming to working knowing the person before me will be punished instead of me.
If not it is better for you to stay another 10 minutes until you can find another job.
There is no magic in MGTOW, just recognition of the truth and logical decision how to avoid dangers. The red pill is but the truth, it is no magical potion. Do not think in this modern world men have no longer have natural enemies, men are prey to women and government.
Anonymous1you weren’t sacked because of your attitude – you were sacked because you’re a threat.
A smart employer would notice you have your head screwed on straight, don’t take s~~~ and stand up for yourself. They’d be giving you some responsibility.
Go forth – find another job.
#Rockmaninoff;
Good on ya, mate!
I’ve quit better jobs for less reason. The thing about low wage jobs is the wage slaves can’t afford to quit. They are buried by bills and debts — they can’t afford to miss so much as one paycheck. Trapped forever in drudgery.
Once again, good on ya!
P.S. It shows financial wisdom to live frugally and have money set aside — as opposed to living high and blowing it all on shiny new things. You sound like one of the wise ones.
Society asks MGTOWs: Why are you not making more tax-slaves?
Work to live, don’t live to work.
Do not date. Do not impregnate. Do not co-habitate. Above all, do not marry. Reclaim and never again surrender your personal sovereignty.
Anonymous42I have a slave work ethic FOR ALL THE THINGS I DO FOR ME!
Massa Tauwa say-so!
Anonymous54One thing I learned from the factory days of my youth..
The art of “looking busy”
The work ethic of slaves wasn’t that great either. they would take every chance to underperform. Hence why the term wage-slave is so accurate.
I am currently adopting all of these philosophies. I no longer look for career paths but rather employment that will not interfere with how I want to live my life.
Will I make it rich? No, but I would rather have free time and low stress than trying to climb a corporate ladder with a bunch of sloots looking to sue any white male in sight.

Anonymous11If you’re not getting paid, why work. Fishing would be more productive. Your manager should have been up your relief’s ass for being late.
I used to have a job where my relief would chronically call in sick. I’d get home at dawn from the extra hours. I did get paid though the tax man always raped me extra hard.
I remember quitting a job over a douchbag manager. Firstly I hated the f~~~ing job because it was in retail and customers for the most part are wankers.
Secondly the money was s~~~e and I had to work alongside this dickhead of a bloke who I wanted to knock out every single day cos of his attitude.
Long story short we had a policy where we don’t give refunds, only store credit. So one day this f~~~ing suckubus comes in looking for her money back, I explain the policy and she goes f~~~ing apes~~~ calling me every name imaginable. Im standing there like a f~~~ing idiot trying to calm her and explain that its not my fault its store policy.
After 15mins of this s~~~ I said fine I’ll get the manager to back me up, or so I thought. Couldn’t find him anywhere on the shop floor and guess where he was? In his f~~~ing office having a coffee and cigarette with dickhead of all people.
I explained to him what happened expecting him to say no problem I’ll sort it out for you. Nope, he simply shrugs his shoulders and says ‘Give her a refund’. Then he resumes his cig and conversation with dickhead.
So there’s me after taking 15mins of s~~~ from some c~~~ because of policy he told me to enforce only be be told the exact opposite because I was disturbing him.
I finished the day and never went back, I knew if I went it I’d probably do time for dickhead who I had to work alongside. And the amazing thing is that they never phoned me or messaged me asking me where I was! I could of being f~~~ing murdered and they didn’t give a s~~~!
I swore from that day I will never take s~~~ from any employer or collegue again. The biggest mistake people make is they assume the company cares about them and they’re part of a family. That is complete bollocks, you’re a number to them not a name. Plus they’ll replace you if and when they feel like it once you’re surplus to requirments.
As another poster said it’s better to work to live than live to work. Creating a balance where you have enough free time for yourself is essential for good mental health.
This topic is personal to me too.
I went above and beyond before – MANY TIMES – and did other people’s jobs… to the point where I should have been promoted. Guess who go the promotion. The LAZY one. The one I covered for. The one with no work ethic.
Leaving on time (in your case) is EXACTLY THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
Why? I have also not been promoted because I was “too good” in the position I was in. To move me into a more managerial/directorial position would have meant replacing me where I was. And they couldn’t. So I was continually forced to take direction from people who had no idea.
Which is worse? Being fired / leaving? Or working under a complete moron.
They couldn’t do it themselves, so they put them in managerial positions. Bulls~~~.
—
It’s very difficult to criticize what you did here because I am in your corner on this 100%, but I would have handled it slightly differently… and made him understand that you would be “fully willing to stay and assist longer for time-and-a-half ( or double-time)”.
This way, your manager would be forced to get off YOUR back and get on someone else’s case for being late. When they pay someone minimum wage….. they can expect minimum work.
Minimum wage…. for minimum work.
It’s fair and reasonable. You did the right thing here by not allowing yourself to be treated like a slave for no incentive or reward.
A “job” — >> is only something you need to make enough money to do the things you WANT to do when you’re not working for someone else.
Big respect for sticking to what you know is right.
But your self-respect is still worth more than anyone else’s.If you keep doing what you've always done... you're gonna keep getting what you always got.I’ve had similar things happen in the past where your boss gets on your case for something and you know there are other people there doing a half what you do. Why do they do this? They always whip their strongest horse. They knew they could come bug me and I’d get s~~~ done, or they could chase around a useless guy, cause stress for themselves, and it still probably wouldn’t get done. It sucks, but that’s how it works.
In the end though…its all a balancing act. How much do you like/dislike what you do, and hows the pay. I’m willing to take more s~~~ at a high paying job than a minimum wage job, and if I mostly like my job but get dumped on once in a while that is a lot more acceptable than a job that I don’t really like much that dumps on me non stop.
There is also an aspect of what else do you have on the side burner? If you quit a 10 dollar an hour job that was mildly annoying for nothing, I don’t know how wise that was. It really doesn’t sound like you were breaking your back there, just asked to stay over once in a while, and unless you had somewhere super important to be a half hour later…it still would have been extra money. Of course I’m saying this as a guy that takes all the overtime I can get, as I believe you are a slave until you are financially independent. A 10 dollar an hour job if you live at home and have no bills is buying your ultimate freedom if you start investing early a lot faster than no income is.
The trick to boring jobs with lots of ‘air time’ is to simply ‘look busy’. I know plenty of women that succeed in looking busy while doing absolutely nothing ALL DAY LONG.
It’s a necessity for dead-end jobs that you’re just going to have to put up with. If your job comes ‘too easy’ to you you’re a direct threat to the manager trying to boss you around.
Always look busy, never do anything. The only job that is going to keep paying you is the job that never gets done. It’s sad but true. I’ve had plenty of dead end crappy jobs and that really is the only rule: look busy.
