I think models have essentially been replaced by legos. We have an extensive collection at the house…made good use of the dining room.

We haven’t done it an while, but the kids and I used to repaint action figures.

My daughter built herself a tablet stand out of popsicle sticks last night. Actually worked too.

    Ok. Then do it.

I still have two die cast models unopened from the 1960s’, one’s a 32 coupe and other I forget, I horded them away in the attic with allot of other s~~~. I got them back in 90’s on eBay, shows how much free time I have to do a diecast model.

I use thinned automotive paint with a badger airbrush to preserve the detail with a high sheen. I did a VW Bug black with urethane clear, no orange peel and bullet proof finish, I still have it.

Model airplanes? If I were a kid now I think I would die of dehydration via masturbation with all the insane and easy to access porn.

    LOL I hear ya brother!

For me it was model ships and firearms ( thats right, back in the early 80’s you could buy model kits of your favourite fire arm in plastic of course but to scale with bullets!) Imagine how that would go over today.

    My ships/boats/subs included a German WW11 U-99,
an American WW11 Gato class submarine, JFK’s PT-109,
Probably what motivated me to join the Navy.

I was pretty deep into RC cars as a kid, mostly of the Tamiya variety. The early to mid eighties was the golden age of the hobby for sure. Many of these cars are worth big money now on Ebay… Sadly I have only one of them left, and it is not one of the early ones that is worth the big bucks. I never really got into any Revel type models, but I had friends who did.

I used to build cars too. I got my nephew into it somewhat. He’s 8 and he always asks me to buy kits for him. (Really easy snap ones for now) He is big into video games, so this is nice way to balance him. I saw a comment about Lego. The eldest nephew is into them, has a whole city built.
My thing has always been model railroading. I have Lionels, HO and N scale. Only N Scale is set up now because I have no room. I got my youngest nephew into them, too. The kid loves all kinds of trains.

I’ve still got some OH scale cars and a locomotive. I looked into doing that once…just never had the room. Too much of HER s~~~ in the way. I used to love model train sets as a boy. Ours was upstairs in the attic. My brother had a Lionel train set.

Never had much involvement with the modeling thing, mainly because the idea of having to hunt down and mix paints puts me off.

However, years ago I inherited an O scale Lionel train set from 1963. Still have it. I’ve been meaning to set it up and get it running again. Still has mail box car, missile launcher flatbed, caboose.

Also have an HO scale Bachmann electric train. Need to chase down some of those silly gold clips.

A couple of years ago, a buddy of mine started building model kits. He joined a local modeling club and now builds incredibly authentic aircraft and military vehicles, complete with mud spatters, wear marks and oil dripping from just the right places. He’s so damn good now that several of his Boeing models are in Seattle’s Museum of Flight.

My son buys these models from gamer store called warhammer. They paint them and play some type of a strategy game. He started when he was in high school and now at 26 he does great work. It has made his fine motor skills excellent and he says it is very meditative. He gets offered good money to paint them.

If you rescue a damsel in distress, all you will get is a distressed damsel.

Oh yeah, Warhammer is full of awesome s~~~. Great bloody models but more expensive than cocaine.
