The first part of your story is similar to mine, and a lot of other guys here. My wife was an innocent flower on the outside, but turned into a wraith behind closed doors. She hit me in the face in the first month we were married. It took eleven years and her running off with three hundred thousand dollars and countless chads, plus the same lies and manipulations you probably experienced, for me to realize that much of the stress I experienced during the marriage was from her (and our families’) abusive behavior. I dated a borderline immediately after my divorce for a few years and went through all of the highs and lows, ending with her having a psychotic breakdown and basically turning into an animal.

Even four years out of divorce, it’s still a good reminder that the cost of divorce is worth escaping hell.

Wow. Thanks everybody. I tried to explain this new way of thinking and living to my friends and they just don’t get it. After the living nightmare I went through there is no way in hell I will ever get married again or ever put myself in a position where I can be thrown out of my own house. From now on I’m living my life the way I want to live and do what I want to do because I’m an adult and no adult should have to ask permission from another so-called adult if they can do something. My friends are funny saying my new way of thinking is kind of gay, but I keep trying to tell them I still like pussy and I want to get laid I just don’t want any of the b******* that goes along with that.

There is no explaining to brainwashed people. Your friends and family have been indoctrinated since birth to buy into this nonsense of marriage. For women, marriage is like clothes shopping, or shoe shopping. They just GOTTA HAVE IT, but they can’t explain why getting it is a good idea. Same deal with men. The answer is always “because that’s what everyone does”. So everyone leaps off a cliff onto a floor of spikes, and you think that’s a good idea?

That’s what you’re dealing with. Don’t bother explaining yourself. They’ll never get it. In fact, they’re liable to fry the microprocessor in their brain trying to make it “compute” and short themselves out like the pathetic drones they are. That’s what happens. You may find in a short time that your circle of friends will disappear, and then slowly get replaced by one or two guys whom you better relate to.

On a funnier note, this doesn’t mean you will necessarily become a conservative redneck conspiracy theorist like so many on this site, although since joining I am now a gun owner and am more prone to wearing flannel.
