I am a professional who works in an industry in which my class of worker directly produces income.
We typically get compensation packages with a required number of billable/billed hours at some billing rate with a guaranteed salary. There is another type of package which is commission based with a percentage of collections. The collections type package has a higher percentage payout but more risk and less stability.
Anyhow, I was contacted and offered a guaranteed salary of 33% of hours * billing rate (ie 2000 hours *$300 per hour * 33% = $200,000). I am already at a position with 50% of collections.
So . . ., instead of just turning down the offer, I countered regarding the HUGE difference in percentage and the extra amount of work to make the same amount.
Long story short, I ultimately negotiated the new position up to 43% with the same compensation (ie 1550 hours * $300 per hour * 43% = $200,000 + 43% of anything billed over 1550 hours).
So, if I work 2000 hours, I get $258,000!!!!
I then negotiated with my current firm to increase my 50% commission paid position to 55%!!!!
So now, when I collect on 1900 hours of 2000 hours billed (reasonable in my profession), I get $313,500 instead of my previous $285,000! To be fair to my current firm, I had already negotiated this up before accepting a year ago. If I never negotiated, it would have been 45% or $256,500.
So to review, I negotiated a 29% increase from the initial offer at the guaranteed salary position and a 10% increase at my current position, which is a 22% increase from a non-negotiated package there.
Note that, as a custodial father, I can also work far less and make the same amount as a non-negotiator. More time with my kid. (see my previous topic for how I got custody)
Well, there you have it, the pay gap is explained. (or a large percentage of it)
Women need to learn negotiation, not blame men or tear men down.
Let me know what you think.
PS
I know these numbers are big, both companies have a need. Still, I think that this shows part of why negotiation prone men make more. With income like that you can retire in a few years.
You mean now that I don’t have a blood sucking harpy spending every bit of it? (ex-wife)
. . .
I have to pay off legal bills (divorce) and my house and stick about a quarter of that into a IRA but yeah, I can potentially retire when I am 50 or so. I worked really hard to get where I am. I also get no child support from my ex but its worth it to have custody so he isn’t completely mind f~~~ed by the time he’s 18.
The pay gap is repeatedly debunked…over and over again.
Yet, this lie still gets trotted out as thoough it’s fact.
Every woman is a slut, if you catch her on the right day.

Anonymous3There is a pay gap, women under 35 out-earn their male counterparts, are far likelier to be employed on a stable permanent basis, and have far higher job security.
The problem with listening to women is they think all women are “equal” to the top performing men, and just think every male below that level is sub-human and it doesn’t even register to them. That’s why pandering to women and promoting them above better men is such a recipe for disaster.
Realistically everyone understands that women are inferior to men. But since most jobs are not important, it hasn’t been an issue to just give women these better positions over unconnected and un-exceptional men. And then hiring H1-b visa male foreigners at slave wages to get the actual work done.
But the top 20% of men aren’t going to tolerate that and have leverage. I know for myself I always considered it extremely disrespectful to pay a woman the same as me, as I always knew my work product and ability were much better. Early on in my life I had no choice but to deal with it, but as soon as I had leverage and had saved up money and had investments to back me up, I refused to deal with it. Of course there would be a pay gap, and if any woman ever then got a pay raise I’d demand more or just leave.
Even women like Hillary Clinton pay their male staffers more money than their female ones. The elite oligarchs use male doctors, male attorneys, male financial advisors for their own needs. They all pay lip service to the unconnected average moron Westerner, because the average Western male and most females eat it up. But nobody with sense believes it and is willing to play for diversity at their own expense.
I agree with both of you. I am tired of being hated for being a f~~~ing white man who worked his ass off to get where I am. No one paid for my college or graduate degree but me. My father was a factory worker and my mom was a teacher. I worked hard to get where I am. Don’t ask me to accept someone who performs worse than me as my equal.
Hell, I billed 2400 hours my first year out of school. Not worked, billed. That’s 600 hours above the requirement.
I worked my ass off while my useless harpy stayed at home and spent every dollar I made and that I couldn’t shove into a 401(k) pre-paycheck. That when on for 8 years. Seriously, she didn’t even prepare my son for school.
Now I am divorced, have my son, and have a fortune at the end of each month to play with or save.
The wage gap is bulls~~~. Discrimination happens against women for real in rare instances. Discrimination against men is becoming common and is not regarded as a problem.
How about we just end discrimination, full stop? You can’t address past discrimination by reversing the discrimination now and hurting men who have never been guilty of the wrong.
rant over, I’m done.
Thanks guys.
