This is a reply to Phoenix. This isn’t really the thread for this discussion, so I will keep this as brief as possible.
I have seen female villains work, but not in hollywood. The best female villain, that worked, was Balalaika, from the Black Lagoon anime/manga series. Balalaika is a cold, ruthless bitch, whom is a badass russian veteran in her own right, with a small, loyal army of badass men at her command. And she would kill anyone. And I mean anyone. That threatens her, or her subordinates.
I have a strong suspicion that the man whom made the Black Lagoon series is a grass eater that made the Black Lagoon series as a parody of feminism, while putting every awesome action movie ever made into one series.
On paper Black Lagoon would look like feminist power trip. But, the series isn’t. None of the women characters in there are sleeping around. It is about people in a city that would make those of the Nar Shaddaa moon proud. And these women lead lives, where they realize any feminist bulls~~~ will them killed.
And all the women are mess up in some way. There is a reason Balalaika is called, ‘fryface’, but not directly to her.
And barring two exceptions. None of the women use physical strength in their fights. Actually, some of the badass female fighters have been showing to be easily physically retrained by some of the male badass fighter.
The women whom fight use agility, skill, and firearms to fight.
An example Revy, whom small, and skinny, but she is extremely agile, and with gunfighting skills that are down right scary.
Revy being all shades of crazy. Though, she is willing to admit that. With her and those she works reaching an understanding. Also, none of the men around her want to date her. And she is not looking for a romance, she is just trying to get on with her own life, as well.
And the main men characters of the Black Lagoon don’t take any s~~~ from the women. And most of them are good, or better than the women fights in the series. Revy outright admits that Chang is much better gunfighter than her.
Along with this, none of those characters in the series respect the weak. None even a weak pretty woman. Such as in the Greenback Jane arc, where the main female characters turned away the pretty woman away, until they learned they could make a buck off of her.
Also, other main character, Rock, is practically a MGTOW. The pilot episode shows him go from corporate salary man to MGTOW pirate.
At the end of the second episode, Rock washes his hands of “civilized society”, he is not looking to date anyone, he is just trying to get on with his life, he has a devious mind, and he prefers pacifism, but he not a pushover. That is a MGTOW.
If you decided to check the Black Lagoon series, I highly suggest the U.S. english dub of the anime. And stick around until at least the end of episode seven, where Revy tries play the “woe is me” card and Rock lets her verbally have it. Where he uses his words to tear her down, and set her straight. Even after she tried to shoot him, at point black reach. Which he pulls the gun away at the last second. And later she the punches him, but he does not flinch.
And Rock does such a great job that it reaches the point where Revy backs down.
I don’t know about you. But, I find watching a man verbally tear down a immature, violent woman to be a MGTOW’s wetdream.
My point is, the reason a female villain does not work on hollywood movies is they don’t allow female characters to have flaws. While the Black Lagoon series has female villains with flaws.
That is why everyone respects Darth Vader. Because in spite of his flaws, Darth Vader is an awesome badass.
