This actually went to trial? This guy, for one year, had to deal with the mental anxiety of possibly going to prison? And it took 90 MINUTES for them to clear the charges? What kind of logic are they running in there??? How the f~~~ can you rape someone in half a second?

This doesn’t really add up. Why is this guy specifically held liable for not helping her out? The article states that WITNESSES saw him leave when she went face down on the shore. On the surfaces, it would appear he was negligent in calling for help…but he obviously wasn’t the only one there. If his obligation is to call for help, doesn’t that obligation end if there are other people capable of calling for help? That would be my defense…I didn’t call for help because I saw others there to do that.

The guy may be in trouble if he was engaged in illegal prostitution or something, but he shouldn’t be held liable for not rescuing her. Perhaps he would be legally required to remain at the scene, however how does he even know that she requires assistance? He isn’t trained to determine when assistance is needed. Was he responsible for her safety just because he was with her? How can you hold someone responsible for other person’s safety when they have no authority over the other person’s actions?

It seems I need to explain the situation further.

In Casablanca, Claude Rains has a wonderful line: “Round up the usual suspects.” The authorities in the Canary Islands have rounded up one of the usual suspects.

The Canaries have a Duty to Help law on the books, for good or ill. The Canaries also have laws against prostitution and illegal immigration. The suspect in this situation is most likely in violation of all three of those laws.

Breaking any one of those laws by itself is usually not enough to cause an arrest. There are illegal North African immigrants on those islands right now, there are people f~~~ing other people for “cash & prizes” on those islands right now, and the authorities on those islands are turning a blind eye right now. However, breaking all three of those laws coupled with the death of a foreign female tourist is enough to make the authorities take action.

This isn’t about being ‘fair”, “legal”, “right”, or any other unrealistic concept. This is about the authorities in a well known tourist destination scrambling to conduct damage control. Post-wall European women looking to get railed by young local men is a big part of the Canaries economy. If the death of one of those slags causes the stream of tourists of any type to slow, the Canaries will take a huge economic hit.

Aruba suffered an actual recession after that stupid little girl from Alabama fell into the hand of a Dutch sociopath and his two dot-head running buddies. There was no boycott, no blockade, no denial of travel visas.
