As for my money, I hope that I spend my last dollar on my last day doing something that makes me smile, and that my last check will be to the Tax Office… and that that motherf’ker WILL BOUNCE!!!

I hope to be massively MASSIVELY in debt. Let the banks eat the cost of a an enormous, pointless funeral on top of everything else.

Sidecar’s point about avoiding the lawyers taking everything in a dispute between heirs is a seriously good point. Such a dispute will also probably damage the family for decades. One way to do this is to give stuff away while you are still alive, then leave the remnant in an equal split will.

I think I will have to do something like that myself. Right now I can’t see why I would want to leave anything much to the children of my first wife. She took them away and they have ever replied to a single letter I wrote them, She also took most of what I had at the time in a divorce settlement and left me in debt so I think they have had their cut already. They could change this by coming to me later on but I doubt it will happen now.

A woman is like fire -fun to play with, can warm you through and cook your food, needs constant feeding, can burn you and consume all you own

They say that you get to know who people really are when they’re disputing a will. I purposely had myself written out of my father’s will because I didn’t want to have any dealings with my siblings after he was gone.

He had nothing worth fighting for anyway…

    Get a bunch of cats.

    Die.

Leave all of it to them.

So, My boy gets it all.

Better make your Will watertight, because if there’s any real money, she will contest it.
When my wife died and the assets were divided up (me, her 3 daughters and 1 son), one of the daughters conned the son out of his share.
So better brief your son, too. Make damned sure that when his sister comes wailing, he tells her where to get off.

I’ll word something like, “you learned from your mother that I was nothing but a utility used to provide food, sustenance, and whimsical things. You never wanted to spend time with me, no matter how hard I tried to nurture a relationship with you. Your inheritance will be in the form of a donation to (local wildlife refuge) where I wanted to often take you to see how nature can lighten your spirits and enrich your soul”.

No – it could be interpreted as if you still care.

Traditionally, what used to be done was to leave someone sixpence. That way they could not argue that they had been forgotten. It was also recognised as an insult, thus confirming that there was no relationship.

$10 has been suggested, so I would go with that. Make sure that – like a cheque – you specify the sum in both words and figures, lest she argue that you meant $10,000.

Or better still, how about a McDonald’s gift certificate for one ‘Happy Meal’ and 50 AirMiles???

@stealthAre you doing it yourself? I need to do one, but I’ve paid lawyers $25k over the last year and I don’t want to give a lawyer another cent right now.
As for who I am leaving it to: I have 2 kids and my son is a strong young man – worked construction for 3 summers during high school / college summers and just graduated. In less than 2 weeks after graduation he landed a great job in his field.Whenever I have a big project that I need help with he is here and only asks for Beer and Wings afterword. He gets it all.
My daughter is a totally bitch to me and rarely even returns texts or calls. So, I don’t even try anymore. She’s a miniature version of my spoiled Ex.. AKA the Selfish One.
So, My boy gets it all.

My state allows it, so exploring the options. One friend has mentioned that if I really want to close the loopholes tight it may be worth hiring a lawyer to say the magic words. Learning as I go.

Men only ever meet their wife for real for the first time in divorce court.

I suppose that divorce court can be thought of as probate for the death of a marriage.
