Pistol Pete is offline again after a very severe storm passed through his area Tuesday evening and a resultant lighting strike took out his ISP modem.

He plans to pick up another modem today and attempt restoration of his Internet connectivity …. but might be a little delayed.

The great news is that the UPS unit took the entirety of the electrical surge and his computer/peripherals are functional and seem to be undamaged.

I’ll send an update if “Da Plan” is delayed significantly.

Again? Poor Pete. We need to get him a lightning rod or something.

Why doesn’t Pete have a copper umbrella over his home like I do?

God keeps me in line just as much as him!

I’ll ask him to pick me up on this way to your house to “borrow” your copper cover. Seems like a good enough reason for a road trip…. as long as it’s not one way of course.

Would you mind sharing the super secret Tower sign/countersign in advance???

Funny how a UPS can take that much power.

Ha, I want all you guys to continue serving as the primary Pete buffer so I don’t have to deal with him all the time!

24/7 Pete is an overload for sure.

Funny you should mention that, we ended our phone call with him stating that he intended to go outside last night and attempt to determine where the lightning actually struck.

Don’t know if he was wearing a “red shirt” or not, and have not tried to call him this morning, but if he survived the night he will indeed be back …… If ……

Road trip? What road? Do you have any idea what a road looks like after 42 years of utter neglect? One wrong turn and you better not be on anything wider than a motorcycle! And a dirt bike at that! Trucks get stuck all the time! This place really needs some “TURN BACK NOW” signs! I’ve seen oil pans smashed wide open! Exhaust systems torn off, and cars stuck up to their axles in mud, and dozens of crashes from neglected ice buildup. Rocks can rip through ANYTHING!

Tell Pete to get a roll of 3/8 bare copper wire with ground rods for both ground stakes and lightning rods, run the wire straightest path to ground without any sharp bends, sweeps instead of bends keep the lightning from leaping to a new path to ground, like through a wall striking your pluming, or your electrical system!

I have my pluming and electric panel grounded to my well casing, it’s maximum protection from both lightning and electrical/plumbing system live ground failure (energizing things that shouldn’t be hot).

UPS can take that much powe

It did indeed take all the electrical current, but sadly it is completely fried … crispy critter … done duck … you get the picture.

As it’s an APC unit, Pete will get the replacement cost, plus any ancillary equipment connected.

Thanks for the update GB. Brother just can’t seem to catch a break lately but if anyone can do it, Pete can.

Ah, YES! Living under a Faraday cage has many advantages to ones health, safety and security. I’d gladly live under one and someday plan to!

    Florida not have lightning rods?

A lot of property seems to be below sea level where Pete lives, so lightning rods would be inserted into the water table. No too effective that way.
