Is closing within 2 years is par for the course for businesses in that area? Ironically, much like the gender pay gap, it would seem their founding principal had no legs to stand on. Apparently, the owner is blaming it all on ‘the patriarchy’ for the fact that not enough men are willing to pay extra to get less customer service then women. However, if the cafes mission statement is “created by women, for women” then wouldn’t it be reasonable to consider that maybe, just maybe not enough women wish to support her business as well? Who knows how many women agree with charging men more vs how many find such a thing to be wrong, or maybe the quality of the food doesn’t do the $20+ prices much justice, or perhaps not enough people out there care for vegan. Either way, the fact that she’s blaming the patriarchy(really the potential customers) just shows her lack in the most basic element of food service. The customer does not cater to you, you cater to the customer. After all, it’s the customer who decides on whether to go to Handsome Hers, Bobs Burgers or Taco Muchacho. I bet a smart business move would have been if someone opened up a Bar-B-Q joint right across the street from Handsome Hers with a big sign that says “All are welcome and everyone will be treated awesome’, have better food for half the cost.

If they really wanted to be “true” to their philosophy, they’d refuse to sell products that were sourced, prepared, or transported by men, and refuse to do so from a building that had any male effort involved in the design or construction, with utensils and dishes likewise.

Eggs made by stem cells aren’t “cloning”: eggs made by stem cells would work exactly like traditional eggs and the result would be a totally new individual, just like in traditional reproduction, while cloning is about producing a perfect copy of the original, so cloning adds a lot of ethical problems.
