Lawyers and my IP address

My wife’s new lawyer allegedly scanned something I sent her and pulled up 4 different IP adresses that I’ve used. He gave her the impression that he can use these to discover every website I’ve ever visited and who I’ve talked to. Any truth to this that anyone knows of?

By the way, I’m brand new here but have been browsing for a while. I’ll make a proper introduction sometime in the future.

It would depend on the jurisdiction, as laws may vary from country to country and area. In most jurisdictions it would require a court order to get the internet service provider to disclose the information to the court. So they would have to persuade a judge. In the UK that is likely to be regarded as going on a fishing expedition and a judge wouldn’t grant it.

I’m not an IT expert and some other guys may be able to clarify better, but my understanding is that if you access the internet through a VPN the websites you visit will not then show up at the internet service provider. May be worth bearing in mind for future approach just to be safe.

Doesn’t make much sense. How would she get IPs you used from a scan?
Can they prove you were the ONLY PERSON using those IPS?

And are they static or dynamic (always changing?)

Lets say your current static IP is belongs to Time Warner, then Time Warner may know what sites that IP visited, but they would have to prove it was you on that IP… and they would have to get that information from Time Warner. Who the f~~~ would bother with that when they can just ASK you what sites you visited.

With IP they can do nothing. With court order to access data from your ISP they maybe could do something, but not likely and they are not getting one. They can only access your history if they have access to your computer either directly or through use of spyware/malware.

I would install Malaware, then i would install AVG antivirus (these are all free programs). Also i would start to use firefox with no script plugin. You have option in your browser to not store history, do check this if you are not sure. And lastly, you have PeerBlock, install it and see if anything fishy ig going through your network (also freebie). Also change passwords as suggested.

Once you are sure they have nothing against you reverse the f~~~ing tables, raise the stakes and show them you will not be intimidated by empty threats.

You can use a VPN. Even if the ISP has a court order to reveal your internet traffic, it would show nothing useful.

set your internet browser to automatically delete history/cookies after every use (PITA but more secure). Make sure you have no trojan horses or keyloggers on your computer. Make sure your computer is password protected with your password as the admin.

Certain websites nowadays, like gmail will scan your computer when you log in, and give you the IP addresses login attempts were made with.

When dealing with family court or lawyers as far as they are consernd i don’t use the internet and don’t even have an email.

No, no kids involved. She has a kid, teenager. Not mine.

This just really shocked the s~~~ out of me. Her words “websites, porn, dating sites, conversations, names, will all be brought out into the open.”

But I don’t see a reason for it. Facts: we seperated last march, after a whole year of marriage. I’m in a one year lease. She made more than me then, and makes even more now. I only took my belongings. This summer we try to patch things up, start over. Instead of doing that, she’s focused on how “she’s alone”.

Anywho, she knows the only thing I’d want is the dog. I bought it, registered in my name. Was originally going to be a present for her, and that’s her story.

Either the lawyer is trying to impress/take advantage of her (looked him up, primarily a defense attorney), or she told him how anal I am about privacy. I don’t want her putting pictures of me on her Facebook as PUBLIC. Yknow, common sense stuff. But it’s OBVIOUSLY because I’m talking to other chics, and don’t want them to see. When I’m at my place relaxing and writing research papers, I’m on dating sites. And her lawyers gonna “prove it”. Trying to stop me from contesting anything?

Never heard of anything like this. We could have drawn our own papers online for 150-200 and she’s pulling this s~~~.

That’s how I read it, each add on comes with it’s own tentacles, I have every intention of using a dedicated computer for Tor and nothing else if freedom of speech goes down, I also would like to get a ham radio if for any reason the internet itself is attacked and torn down, ya never know how things are gonna turn out when bats~~~ crazy is at the helm, in a cat-5 hurricane!
