Anonymous43some of you were asking about my job search…here’s an update
I live in an area with a lot of retail and some banks, I have been applying at the retails and the banks just to give myself something to do for the summer while I figure out what to do with my life.
Sooo I applied at Home Depot last week online, and got a phone call and an email, they want to talk to me…woot!
I am looking at schools for coding and programming…a computer science degree. If I stay here, I’m paying out of state tuition. Or I go back to where I came from and go to a large university with a red and blue bird and pay in state plus rent. Rent where I am is $1000 a month. Rent back there was $500-600. Degree may take 3 years.
decisions decisions..then there is the move in with family option…ugh.
One website I found suggested that I create my own coding consulting company. Buy a domain name, create a site, and get hosted somewhere, get an actual business license, and practice coding and making projects…creating an online portfolio, do some blogging, then after some time, apply to jobs without the degree, and see what happens.
Can I get a little feedback on crashing the gates without a degree with a year of practice and a fake company?
Thanks for your concern and your prayers…you guys are awesome.

I have been listening brother. You got screwed in the last teaching position. But, I bet you were good at it. Do what you know. F~~~ them!
Stay: 36 months at $1,000/month = $36,0000
Go back: 36 months at $600/month = $21,600Assume 2 schools in state cost the same (call it X), and from my experience out of state usually cost double (2X)
Stay: 36,000 + 2X
Go back: 21,6000 + XGo back is cheaper from a cost-only point of view. Of course, you have to factor your total revenue before making a final decision, but I highly doubt your wage would be double.
The following is my opinion, nothing more.
I got a computer science degree 100 years ago. Or 30. I can’t remember. Anyway, the degree got me my first job. I spent the first 6 weeks learning a whole new language. Today, I have my own wildly unsuccessful company. I develop websites with WordPress and also take care of the domain registration and hosting. I taught myself what computer related skills I needed. I am a horrible salesperson, which holds me back.
Check into Udemy.com. You can take classes on pretty much any programming language for as little as $10. Choose a class that has lots of reviews and is recently updated. Once you have learned what you want/need, you’ll have to hustle to sell yourself, but it’s possible.
So, if you can teach yourself and have no problem selling yourself, then I’d definitely look into starting your own thing. Just my $0.02.
