Sanders had no problem with a 90% tax on the uber wealthy. These are the job creators. Think about it: would you continue to create wealth if you only retained 10 cents on the dollar you earned? The wealthy, business owners, simply pass the cost along to the consumers. But if its at rates that high, why bother doing business?
I get it – your young and in a liberal college so of course your indoctrinated. When I was in your shoes I didnt wear a socialist hat, however. Sanders is a sovialist. There are PLENTY of socialist countries out there. When young people want to bring socialism to America, I ask – why dont you simply go to a socialist country? Thats not what this country was founded on. I dont here of any Americans fleeing to socialist states because of so much oppurtunity. I do see many trying to come here though.90%? I doubt that. One of the only bad things about Sanders is that he wants to raise tax rates on the rich however.
I don’t want socialism, I just think that we should spend our money better. For example universal healthcare as oppose the one we have now would be cheaper and more effective. Increasing the minimum wage would raise government revenue and stimulate the economy without taxing the rich more. Stopping the “war on drugs” and legalizing certain drugs would stimulate the economy a little, and we would send less on feeding/housing prisoners. Also dems. generally want less wars and foreign aid to Israel, so we could spend it on Americans instead.
ideally I want a president who spends our taxes the right way without spending more. or increasing tax rates. Democrats are far from perfect but they are more in line with my ideas.
I believe the rich and middle class are taxed enough though. I am a big supporter of Sanders.
Do you realize he wants to increase federal spending by 18 trillion dollars over 10 years? That is the size of our GDP. He literally wants the government to spend 10% more of our economy every year.
On top of that we are currently running a deficit, as we have been for years now. I think this year we are going to be spending about 500 billion more than we took in.
So now let me ask you…if we are running a 500 billion deficit, and Sanders wants to increase spending by 1.8trillion a year…and you think the rich and middle class are already taxed enough, what options does that leave Sanders? Is he going to run 2 trillion dollar deficits every year, because that simply isn’t sustainable, or is he going to raise 2 trillion dollars worth of taxes on the poor…because you already said you think the middle class and rich are taxed enough.
Bernie Sanders is a joke.
Obama care is okay, but its not universal healthcare. I would prefer universal healthcare, not Obamacare. Thats why I support Sanders for 16.
Obamacare sucks. If you make too much for a subsidy…which is most of the middle class…all it did for you was make your care more expensive so someone else could get a subsidy. It literally did nothing to actually lower costs, it was all about spreading costs around. Its basically making group A pay more so group B can get a discount, when the reality is had they focused on actually lowering costs, nobody would have got screwed, we all would have won.
Bottom line, if you care to do a little research, is that medicare is currently paying out about 10% of its funding in fraudulent claims and has been riddled with this issue for decades and our government either doesn’t give a s~~~ or is too retarded to fix it. Private insurance companies profit margin + fraudulent claim payments combined are less than 10%. Is it worth demonizing the 3-4% profit margin of private insurers, eradicating them, and then letting a more inefficient government handle healthcare spending because profits are evil and you’d rather see even more money go to fraudsters instead?
Plus…probably my biggest gripe with universal healthcare. Let’s compare two people….one single with no kids making 100k a year, and the other is someone making 100k a year with a stay at home spouse and 4 kids. The single childless person is going to be paying a much higher tax rate…so the other guy essentially gets a family policy for a family of six for less money than the single guy gets his single coverage. Why should that guy have to pay more for less?
I get it – your young and in a liberal college so of course your indoctrinated.
This was pretty much my impression as well. I’m not saying I have all the answers…but what I do notice about liberals is they generally totally fail at understanding government services = higher taxes. bcroger for example…just gave all the typical canned answers…
I don’t support feminism at all
Yet you align with the party who supports feminism to an extreme extent.
nor do I support affirmative action or gender equality legislature b.s.
Yet you align with the party who supports this to an extreme extent. Google Sotomayer firefighter case…that’s what democrats love to put in the supreme court.
I don’t care if gays get married
This fights over and done…they have the right to marry. Plus, its a generational issue…every day more old people die who tend to oppose gay marriage and more young people who tend to support it become of voting age. This shouldn’t even be a campaign issue anymore…and even when it was an issue I’d simply rather vote primarily on issues that impact all of us rather than gay marriage…when what 1-2% of the population is a gay person that even wants to get married? When I was in college I wish we spent 1/10th the time we spent debating gay marriage on disecting the federal budget instead.
there needs to be some background checks/logical solutions to the gun problem.
The biggest reason is economic reasons . I am a firm believer in increasing the minimum wage (not that I plan to live on it, but as a college student working minimum wage, it is too low, and feel sorry for those who have to live on it)
The real problem is jobs leaving the country, stagnant wages, and an overall crappy job market. I’d much rather vote for someone with a reasonable plan to improve those things than someone who is saying minimum wage careers are the future, so let’s pay burger flippers 15 an hour…and at the same time wants to tax businesses even more, which just hurts small business owners and encourages big businesses to move more of their operations to lower tax countries…which will ultimately just make the job market even worse.
Sanders on taxes
When talking about President Dwight Eisenhower’s administration, Sanders said, “I think the highest marginal tax rate was something like 90 percent.”
CNBC’s John Harwood then said, “It was 90. When you think about 90 percent, you don’t think that’s obviously too high.”
Sanders replied, “No
BCRoger” I dont want socialism”.
Sanders:
“When I ran for the Senate the first time, I ran against the wealthiest guy in the state of Vermont. He spent a lot on advertising—very ugly stuff. He kept attacking me as a liberal. He didn’t use the word “socialist” at all because everybody in the state knows that I am that. It has lost its cachet.”
Then why would you vote for one?
Whats wrong with this country is the university- liber think tanks and indoctrinating systems – pumping out a misinformed pc voiting block. The very FEW reasons you gave why your a democrat pale in comparison to policies within that party that you oppose. Beers post was so spot on.
You say your not for feminism, protected people groups and the like; but by supporting Sanders or any liberal you are furthering the cause. All of the topics you bandied about are feel good specious arguments. For gay marriage? Beer is correct they make up 1% or so of the population. Why is this enough to merit your support of a party? Sounds more like self serving sanctimony.
Really think about it. I hate to say it, but its people who think like you that are putting people in office who are ruining our country. I bet you voted for Obama. He has single handedly spent more than every other president in history combined. Were approaching debt of Greek sized proportions; and now you want Sanders? What Obama didnt spend enough for you? You know whats happening in Greece right? Their so broke their banks literally shut down for days.
How in the world could you think someone like Sanders is what we need? How much debt do you think we can survive? Thus country isnt too big to fail and it is on the path of destruction.
Resident cynic.
Then why would you vote for one?
I had this same conversation with a co-worker a few weeks back at work. We live in a very liberal, high tax state. Naturally, one of the popular conversations we have at work is how crappy our state is in this regard. One particular co-worker…literally one sentence after he finished bitching about our high taxes and how much he is paying for his car and house taxes proudly proclaimed he supported Bernie Sanders. I just face palmed.
I mean…what’s the guy gonna do…pay student loans off for people?(which I suspect is also part of bcroger’s motivation for liking the guy) Sounds like a great plan…and then 2 minutes later your taxes go up because the government increased spending. That is the liberal solution these days…I’d much rather prefer a candidate who wants to look at the root causes and get costs down. For generations college was more affordable and the cost of higher education increased at a rate near inflation. What is different between college costs 40 years ago and college costs today? If you take a long hard look at it its not hard to see the biggest difference is increase government involvement in student loans(sounds a lot like the housing meltdown eh?). Bernie’s plan…let’s fix a government induced education bubble by throwing even more money at it and inflating it even more!

Wow, thanks for all the input guys. After reading your posts, I will look into my political affiliation and decide which political party works best for me.I have not started paying taxes yet, and my parents pay for my college tuition, so I don’t really understand how the “real world” works. Perhaps when I do I may lean more to the right. It all depends.
Anonymous12Totally agree, there isn’t anything in Liberalism/Socialist Marxism for your average White, Heterosexual male. I view straight white male leftards with suspicion as they are following a belief system that views them as the enemy.
When I was in Sunday school age 10, the teacher who was female told us that the snake approached Eve as women are easier to manipulate. This thought has come back to me recently as Left Wing politics is one huge contradicting mess and women lap it up because it makes them feel good much like f~~~ing the devil in God’s garden while Adam tends to the fig trees.

There isn’t anything in Liberalism/Socialist Marxism for anyone with a decent work ethic who lacks a victim mentality.
