You can’t choose to be happy.
But you can PREPARE yourself for it.

Try and entertain and enjoy yourself.
Who knows, happiness might look around and find the environment appealing.

I think happiness is a momentary thing.
Contentment and peace of mind are the two things that men should strive for.
Too often people are driven by a need to buy and collect things. collecting s~~~ does not make you happy. Example: Cat ladies, hoarders and your typical woman. They collect tons of s~~~ and it does not make them happy. Not all their fault, our consumerist society brainwashes them to believe that buying this or that will make them happy.
Find a hobby you love. Make something, anything. Write, draw, paint, make carvings, do wood working, make something. NOTHING brings peace of mind as creating something rather than buying it. If it looks like s~~~, keep at it, practice and the act of creating brings peace.

It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion, it is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shaking, the shaking becomes a warning; it is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion.

“What then is happiness? Very few people know and no one can tell you, because happiness cannot be described. Can you describe light to people who have been sitting in darkness all their lives? Can you describe reality to someone in a dream? Understand your darkness and it will vanish; then you will know what light is. Understand your nightmare for what it is and it will stop; then you will wake up to reality. Understand your false beliefs and they will drop; then you will know the taste of happiness.”

OldSage you at least identified the one source of unhappiness for men and the group that always claims it is “not happy.”
