I figured it was just a matter of time before insurance companies start screwing me for remaining a single, childless man.

I recently sold my 25’ Airstream Serenity International to shrink down to a 16’ Airstream Bambi Sport. When I called Geico to add the 16 footer they told me it was gonna cost me $745 for the 6 month premium. I pointed out that I was only paying $570 on the 25’. The lady couldn’t explain the reasoning behind it. My premium for full coverage on both my truck and trailer are now $2041.14/6 months. Keep in mind I have a nearly perfect driving record. 1 ticket in my entire life from 9yrs ago going 39 in a 30.
So I start calling around for insurance quotes. Liberty Mutual at $2700, State Farm wanted $3000 just to cover the truck. USAA, who’s suppose to be military/veteran friendly, wanted $3200.
Honestly, I’m not even p~~~ed. I think it’s f~~~ing hilarious that the system attempts to screw the smart man who remains single while also f~~~ing over the dumb men who get married lol. I’m simply looking at it like this “Still cheaper than being married.”

There is a trick around this. For your car, get the Per mileage insurance for your truck.
The second way they determine your rate is the location that you live in. The reason why many people have an address out in the middle of nowhere, is to live in an apartment in the city or be able to lower insurance rates.

4,000 a year is a BIT STEEP for insurance. One of the things I have noticed is that if you start doing the Per mileage insurance, they use a OBDII reader. If you stick it on another car, and just never drive it. Or keep it at your home on an emulator, you never get charged the mileage you drive. And they still have to cover you.

I am not saying YOU do this, but I know some people have.

Also, the reason why guys drive around Beater cars is the CHEAP insurance. Same thing with the old Minivans.

At one time with USAA, I was paying 39 dollars a month for Liability with my old 1993 minivan. Since I paid that up front, I paid less than 29 bucks a month. And insured my other 2 cars that never drove anywhere.

There is also one more trick to lowering your payments.

If your dad lives in the boondocks, or a place that has REAL low insurance rates, register your home there with your insurance company while driving it in the area that you primarily work in. Its one of the reason why people buy property in the middle of nowhere, and live someplace else. Even though the property has NOTHING on it, it saves some people over 4,000 a year.

My uncle use to do this as he did not get rich by following the crowd. THat and putting everything in a trust.

Lastly, the strange this is Multi car discounts per driver. For some reason the math behind it means you have less chance of an accident if you have more than one car. And it can often be cheaper to insure 2 cars, rather than one. I think it’s called a multiple car discount.

Also, see if registering as a woman gives you a lower rate. Do it online and see if you get the quote. If ticking that you are married gets you a lower rate. They can’t say you are not married by Sharia Law, so they can’t get you on that either.

Make sure to add AAA discounts, and about towing, USE AAA. Not your Insurance carriers towing plan. THis can save you S~~~ tons of money as well.

If you don’t need rental Remibursment, that helps too.

Sexual Orientation does come into play as well on Insurance Rates. They say it does not, but I know my Neighbor sure thinks so. He use to sell Insurance.

I got screwed with my car insurance this 6 month cycle. They increased it by $50 which is about a month’s payment. I asked them why for the increase when I never once got into an accident or got a ticket and they told me they don’t know.

So it’s not just you. They’re ass f~~~ing me too.

Mickey, thank you for your wise words. A man at my local lunch place actually told me a few days ago about a friend getting cheaper insurance by identifying as a woman lol. I just can’t bring myself to doing that. I am a man and refuse to even say “I identify as a woman” in any way cause it’s just so degrading to my sense of Being. That’s worse than being a democrat lol. I’ll definitely consider buying property in the middle of nowhere though. About to take another trip to Lake Havasu, AZ. LOTS of property in the desert.

Just got off the phone with an independent insurance guy who ran my VINs and drivers license number through a system and couldn’t come up with anything cheaper than what I pay now.

Told me “Just stay with Geico, brother.”
I asked him “wtf is going on?”
He replied “you want my God honest opinion?”
I said “give it to me.”
He said “I’ve never dealt with a man who’s in his 30’s, never been married and no kids. They more than likely see you as a liability cause you have no reason to stay out of trouble.”
I replied “Isn’t that what i’ve been doing by not getting married and having kids?”
He laughed his ass off for a good 10sec and said “You’re right.”
A red pill conversation followed after that. Don’t know if the man is married or not but he picked up what I was puttin’ down.

I know its hard to swallow, but when your living from hand to mouth, and your home is your car, that’s gas money, or food money. Maybe even a tool needed for work.

Sometimes it’s just the Luxury of heat in your car at night to be able to have the gas money to run your car to stay warm.

I feel no shame for helping Vets and Men I met on hard times getting a break. After my experience with Progressive and how they f~~~ed me? Nope. Don’t feel bad at all.

Driving is the most dangerous thing we all do on a daily basis.
You have a trailer that is worth somewhere between $15,000 – $20,000
A truck to tow said trailer isn’t cheap. Most likely also in the $20,000-$30,000 range.
Somewhere around $40,000 – $50,000 would be paid out if the trailer and truck were totaled. You’re charged $4,000 per year. How many years of paying premiums does it take to offset the risk. Insurance companies aren’t around to give charity.
The risk to tow a trailer on a truck is substantial. Much more substantial than driving a sedan or minivan. Think about how much damage your truck and trailer can cause if there is an accident. Not a slight on your driving skills, that’s just how it is. For every man like yourself, there’s hundreds of guys who buy trailers who have no business driving them.
The likelyhood of a claim happening with your vehicle and trailer is incredibly higher than if you drove a sedan, and had a residence. Having a camper/trailer without a permanent residence is an automatic red flag with insurance companies. Nothing to do with being single and childless.
The insurance company has to charge enough money to recoup a loss if one occurs.
There are more expensive cars on the road, more drivers on the road, insurance costs go up because there are more accidents. Newer cars cost more to insure. Many drivers are distracted the majority of the time, causing more accidents, causing the insurance to increase. I’m one of the dumb saps who actually pays attention to the road and my premiums increase every year.
You’re 100% correct that it is cheaper than having a wife. Also, USAA is notorious for screwing veterans.

That’s how it is brother. You aren’t going to find some magical company who has rates much lower than the rest. Every company knows every other companies rates, and they won’t undercut rates because that would leave money off the table.

Insurance is not insurance. It’s socialism. If it were insurance, you would only be pooled with your actuarial counterparts – that is, single white men who don’t get into accidents.

No. It’s worse. The entire income tax system is largely a bachelor tax, even though they make certain never to call it that. They simply make certain single men don’t qualify for the vast majority of deductions and exemptions. Single mothers, of course, are a different story entirely.
