Sorry for your loss. Sounds like an awesome dog and a true friend.

Had to make this gut wrenching heart breaking decision several times and it never gets any easier.

He loved you as much as you loved him and I know how much you miss the little guy.

Things will get better, until then you can always find a shoulder to cry on round here.

There is NO wisdom in signing a contract with someone who benefits from breaking it.

I also had a dog for 14 years and had to put him down.

    At first, it is hard.

But then with time, at least for me, all i get in return is a positive feeling about how well i treated him and good friend he was and how it was proper thing to do to cut his pain at the end…

So at least for me after few years it is just happiness that i had him. But that day seriously sucks when you have to put him down. Just recently had a dream he is alive, so vivid that after waking up needed few seconds to realize that was years ago..

It sucks knowing that that chapter is ove

With Wally only, you will have another canine friend in your life when the time is right. Has a Border Collie mix that we put down at the age of 24 back in 2004. Just started fostering another dog a few months ago, but each animal is special.

Humans domesticated animals for a reason and it was not always for protection. You had a good friend and I am sure that you were very good to him. Given that you and your family choose to fix his leg and not dispose of him is just one example.

He is in a much better place.

Rainbow Bridge (Death of a Pet)

There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth.
It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of all its beautiful colors.
Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge there is a land of meadows,
hills and valleys with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place.
There is always food and water and warm spring weather.
The old and frail animals are young again.
Those who were sick, hurt or in pain are made whole again.
There is only one thing missing,
they are not with their special person who loved them so much on earth.
So each day they run and play until the day comes
when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
The nose twitches! The ears are up!
The eyes are staring and this one runs from the group!
You have been seen and when you and your special friend meet,
you take him in your arms and hug him.
He licks and kisses your face again and again –
and you look once more into the eyes of your best friend and trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together never again to be apart.

Lost my collie a few months ago. They give you so much and ask for so little in return.

Today was a day of making one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make.

Sorry to hear about this. Myself, and many others here, have been there. If that’s any consolation.

Take some comfort in knowing that there are countless other really good dogs out there just waiting to be adopted. People are giving them away. Get another one ASAP. It will help you deal with your loss…

I’m sorry bro, I have several dog holes in my heart too.

They don’t live long enough, but then how hard would it be to say goodbye after 30 or 40 years.

    I want another dog.

I’m just real tired of saying goodbye lately.

    Be well bro.

I know your pain, brother. I am looking at my own dog right now and thinking when will be his time. There is an end to everything, sooner or later. The only thing that I will make sure, and I know that I will do everything on my power do achieve it, is to give him the F~~~ING BEST life I can give him, dedicate to him all my love, time, money, protection, happiness and everything I can give, so I can see him flourish in his ephemeral beauty, while his very brief life is still here.

I am sure that you did the same. May your dog be well, wherever he are.
Make sure that you are the guy that he thought you were. Be the best you can be.

I am raising a glass tonight, for you and him.

    “Once more into the fray
Into the last good fight I’ll ever know
Live and die on this day
Live and die on this day.”

    Rest well, pupper.

You gave him a good life.

    Grieve, brother.

When you are done grieving, take comfort in knowing your actions brought him happiness that no-one else could offer.

Stay strong. The loss of a friend you raised for so long is never easy.

Logic guides your actions, emotion guides your morals. Only you may decide how you use them.

God Bless you, I Rule Me!

I can definitely relate to what you are going through! I lost my cat after 20 years of friendship together. I miss him all the time.

I wanted to share something with you related to this and all those who have lost a dear multi-legged friend…

I have always believed that all animals go to heaven when they die. The reason I believe this is because I believe animals have a perfect relationship with their creator, whom I believe to be Jesus Christ. When Christ created the animals in the Garden of Eden, along with Man, everything was perfect. It was Man that broke that relationship through sin. Animals did not. If one reads scripture, they will not find any example of an animal disobeying God. True, Lucifer took on the form of a serpent, but Lucifer could have taken on the form of any animal God created. That was Lucifer’s fault and not the serpent’s.

I believe animals have a perfect, unbroken relationship with Jesus. I believe they recognize him as their master and creator and have not lost that initial essence of perfection. The reason the animal kingdom suffers is because of our sin, not theirs.

Your dog is with Christ right now, my friend. I say this with respect because I do not know what belief system (or lack thereof) you follow. I happen to follow Christ, so this is my perspective.

God Bless you sir! You have my and other men’s support on here!

Keep us in the loop as to how you are doing!

I lost mine after 14 years in 1996. I still miss him after all these years. He will be in your heart always. You took good care of him. No doubt he loved you more than anything else on earth could. Peace.

Some may not think losing a dog as a big thing but I do. I have a German dog myself named Oscar, a Dachshund. When my wife bragged about her ongoing affair last Christmas, I kicked her out the next day but it was followed by three days in hell as I stared at the Christmas tree. As I drank myself insane, stood on the ledge of a breakdown and made plans to drive over a cliff, there was my little buddy and hunter. He stood on his hind legs and whined as if to say: “But what about me and my Love for you?” Some angels trade their wings for and extra set of legs and big ears. Oscar is my hero, my only family member within three states and my closest friend. When his time comes, I don’t know how I will survive. So I do the best I can afford to take care of my little hunter. I will bet a years wages that most men are dog people and most women are cat people. When you find the next life, you will find your closest friend still waiting for you.

Condolences bro. I’ve been there and it sucks big time. Afterwards, I sometimes found myself looking around the house for my pet and then remembering they were gone.

Remember the good times and that your dog had a great life, thanks to you.

    The answer, is no.

So sorry that your dog has crossed the Rainbow Bridge, I too know the pain of having to let go, but it is an act of love and kindness to allow your companion to painlessly slip away.
