I can just repeat myself and some other smart guys here in this forum, low intensity Long distance work like soft Biking, slow running will MAYBE make u skinny but u will NOT get a healthy manly Body, also isolated exercises like trizep pull downs, latpulls, quad extensions, bicepcurls etc. will NOT help you lose weight, gain musclemass or make u stronger.
The only way to gain muscle and strength and boost your metabolism and testosterone Output is to do lots of heavy functional multijoint exercises like all Kind of squats, pullups, and presses.
Isolationexercises are for Definition and Looks only and do not help your fitnesslevel, anybody who says something else has no real clue about strength and conditioning Training.

I have struggled with my weight in the past, I found a program like the ABs program so helpful and I lost all the weight following the advice and exercises from that book. I still follow it today.

I don’t indulge in sugar, I drink water 90% of the time (I prefer flavored), I do eat fish, chicken, and vegetables. I’ve only had like 4 sodas in the past 4 months. The only non-water I drink is skim milk and 3 Coors Lights on the weekends.

And four servings of free fried fish.

You can’t cheat the laws of thermodynamics and thyroid issues can only account for so much. You are eating more calories than you choose to believe.

In fact, if your activity levels can be believed, the fact that you’re maintaining a weight of 249 lbs while exercising like you claim means you’re eating far more calories than you choose to believe.

Contact the nutritionist your doctor recommended and start keeping a flinty eye on what and how much goes in your mouth.

    Diet:
Eat fruits and vegtables for snacks
    Cut back on sugar
    Cut back on alcohal
    No red meat, just chicken/fish

    Excercise:
Do more weightlifting, building muscle burns more calories than cardio does
    Don’t overwork yourself
    Manage your stress
    Have rest days

I didn’t read all the responses so I don’t know if I am just saying the same things as others have said but here is my take………

All that cardio you are doing will do NOTHING in changing how your body looks. Sure it has a lot of other benefits such as a healthier heart and circulatory system, probably lower blood pressure and cholesterol, lower blood sugar, and better cardiovascular endurance.

But it will do NOTHING in changing how your body looks. Take a look around you the next time you are at the gym. The people on the cardio machines do they really look that good? Do they ever look any better? How about the guys and girls lifting heavy weights. No, not bicep curls or other boring ass s~~~ that will get you nowhere. I am talking about people doing deadlifts, stiff leg deadlifts, squats, hack squats, bench presses, incline and decline bench presses, heavy sled pushes, standing overhead barbell presses, heavy farmer walks. I bet these people look damn good, most of them.

Doing oblique bends or whatever you are doing……that ain’t gonna do anything for you.

Go to the gym and learn to do the big lifts that use compound joints. Lifts that work your whole body or at least a good portion of your body. No isolation stuff like bicep curls or tricep pushdowns. Waste of time bro. Waste of time.

I will let you in on my situation. In two years I lost 45 pounds slowly. I first lost the first 20 pounds fast by stop drinking coke and even diet coke and then I had to make other adjustments every time just to lose more weight. I can safely say now that not drinking any sort of coke or diet coke is the biggest factor in me not gaining back my weight.

At this point though, if I wish to lose weight as fast as I can without starving myself which would only slow my metabolism, here is what I would do.

-eat whole foods like whole grains, meat, fish, legumes, fruits and vegetables and more as much as you can and try to avoid processed food like frozen pizzas where you cannot pronounce the food’s ingredients or that the food has more than 5 ingredients as much as possible.

-try to avoid deep fried foods, salty foods and foods with added sugar or artifical sugar as much as you can. High fructose corn syrup is the worst.

-I found out last year that when your muscles are repairing from a muscle workout, that it is actually burning calories in a period of 2 to 3 days and having more muscle can actually increase your metabolism too. If you are not eating enough protein, you might actually lose muscle. You should at least eat 1 gram of protein for every kilogram you weigh just to not lose any muscle. In your case, 249 pounds = about 112-114 kg which means you have to eat 112-114 grams of protein at least to not lose muscle.

-they say to walk briskly at least 30 minutes a day or do something of equivilent. Try to do low impact exercises so that you would not be prone to get hurt as much.

-Try to drink a good amount of water throughout a day, and the standard is like 2 liters of water. Also, you even need to have a good amount of sleep like 8 hours worth a day to really lose a lot of weight.

-don’t do what I did like yesterday of eating a lot of carbs before going to bed. It is not so good to eat a lot of carbs before sleeping, because carbs do not digest well when you sleep.

So remember, eat until you are satisfied and not till you are full, along with everything else I pointed out and maybe other things people pointed out and I guess you are doing the best you can without gaining back the weight because maybe your metabolism slowed down for instance.

Bang on. I’ve been down this road and metabolism is key. The only thing constant cardio and dieting will do is make your metabolism back off, then losing weight is more difficult and worse yet if you change back to you old habits you are at risk of gaining all your weight back and then some rather quickly.

You don’t have to look like you want to enter a strong man competition, but work all the muscle groups and push yourself a bit.

Just a correction here. It’s really for every kilogram you weigh, you are suppose to eat how many kilograms you weigh multiply by 0.8. Here is the link of proof of what I said is correct. So with the person who posted this topic, he is around 112-114 kilograms, so 114 multiply by 0.8 = 91.2 grams of protein. I am so sorry for stressing out my mistake, but after pointing this out, he shouldn’t be as discouraged to try to maintain his muscle mass because 114 grams of protein and 91.2 grams of protein is over like a 20 gram difference. Remember, the more muscle you have, the faster metabolism you will have.
